North Melbourne Assistance Package
North will make a big play for GC's pick 4. They have been gifted 3 picks to throw at GC. North are stacked with early pick mid types so i expect they would go for 2 of Curtin, Caddy and O'Sullivan. Clarkson will insist on talls. Of course if they get pick 3 for McKay they make all 3 or 2 plus Mckercher or Sanders. We would then take best available at 5/6 and try to trade to an earlier pick to get Murphy (CHB).

The GCS Pick 4 Thread
Sam sounds like a cry baby. Bulldogs getting elite talent at the pointy end of the draft with a 20% discount is what the other clubs should by whining about not the Bullies. Not to mention the advantage of knowing what you are going to get in terms of elite talent eg talls means you can use draft other picks or FA's to fill other areas of your list. I have heard it all.

Connor O'Sullivan
I would not be surprised if this occurs. North have heavily invested in mid types in previous drafts. I would not be surprised to see them draft O'Sullivan and maybe Curtin who will play from game 1 or Caddy as a partner for Larky up forward. Whatever there is always a surprise or 2 or 3 in the top 10 (top 15 this year with all the give aways).

Trade Rumours 2023
I do not mind compensation at pick 3 if McKay gets huge $$ but i will be cranky if they are given a priority pick. This draft is compromised to the ridiculous as it is. Give North 1st access to State league players even if it means creating a spot or 2 on their list to accommodate that. I think we will go very hard to move up from our pick 13 which after Academy/FS will likely be around pick 16/17. Our 1st pick i would be hoping for either Sanders, O'Sullivan or Caddy. Evidently the Dogs are desperate for Watson and will throw the kitchen sink at GC for pick 4, Given Dogs are getting FS Croft in the top 15 it makes sense. I was hoping we would get the GC pick.

Is our time at the top done?
No way. We have plenty of gas in the tank. Plus a good chance of picking up a couple of guns in this draft. Kalani White to come in 2025. A gun UFR in 2024 with cash save on retirement of at least 2 of Brown, Tomlinson and TMc and Grundy off the list this year..

Potential Father Son Prospect Noah Yze
Some players are late developers. For most kids its a fairly big step up from 1st to 2nd year Under 18's in terms of development. So i will watch his development next season.

Cool light of day
I think we actually gave it a good shake given the circumstances. Healthy teams win finals and premierships. In the lead up to the finals we lost Petty and Melksham who was in career best forward form. The we lost Brayshaw in the opening minutes of the game against Collingwood which forced Petracca to play more mid further knackering our forward line. Still we had the better of the magpies for the last 3 quarters. JVR lost it and copped a week suspension further knackering our chances against Carlton where we kicked ourselves out of a win. We have to hope Petty comes back ok and is not injury prone. We need to go full on to get GCs 1st rounder this year and pick elite kids who will be playing top footy in 2 or 3 seasons. Pick up a free agent at season 2024 end and draft Kalani White in 2025.

Hot Future Forwards
I think Petty has shown he can play forward and you can bet that is the plan.

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Its hard to bottom out now with so many Academy and FS early picks. GC have potentially up to 4 elite under 16's coming through to under 18's next year and eligible for the draft in 2025. Kaliani White is one of them and he will join us - and rightfully so. On top of that we have had compensation to North last year and maybe this year. WCE in the next year or 2? Then we have gun Tassy kids coming through may move to Tassy when they come in. AFL will tear up contracts. Its a fine mess the AFL are getting clubs into (mainly Vic clubs). Our current guns will be into their 30's (31/32/33) by the time we see Tassy drafts coming in. So we need to start bringing in elite juniors now.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
With our game plan we need forward players who can find space in a crowded phone box. Petty and Fritter can do this but another would be handy. If we can get 2 or 3 of this type on the field at once it makes them hard to cover. Petty was a bigger loss than it was given credit for. Watson or Caddy? Better delivery to inside 50 would be handy as well. We need another player who is a ball collector as well as a good distributor? Hard to find these types.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
This draft is compromised to the ridiculous. North should not get a 1st round in this draft. How are middle of the range clubs supposed to improve if they are pushed back to far in the draft. Crikey, if Northern clubs get a free hit at Academy picks below 40 they should be paying a 20% points premium for getting the player they want (at least for the top 10). 20% discount on top of getting a potential gun player. - stupid. We will need to go 'hell for leather' to get GCs pick 4. If not at least a good move up the order. It will cost a mint in points though!!!

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
That is why Goody is happy if our talls in a pack situation can get the ball to ground in a good spot for our smalls to work from. Its get the ball in and keep it in. Petty is smart on the lead and good in a one on one up forward. Petty, Melksham injuries JVR suspension and Brayshaw concussion stuffed our chances - luck does play a part. You need a pretty healthy list going into and during finals.
-
Elite decision makers
There will be a lot of existing list reflection before the draft. Watson is regarded by phantom drafters as a possible elite. Will he and Kosi be able to rotate through the midfield to share the load? Caddy could well be Curnow like so the talk goes. Will Jefferson fill TMcs spot? Will JVR keep improving? The reasons for our lousy conversion will be examined. Our game plan involves getting the ball in and keeping it there. Injuries to Melksham, Petty and JVR suspension hurt big time. Peter More said that with Petty out we had no big target up forward and JVR is just a 19 year old - so we were always going to push the 'stinky stuff' up hill in a final. Do we need an elite mid to allow Track to play mainly forward? May is heading for 30 plus. Do we need an O'Sullivan/Murphy type to step up in a few seasons? Do we need to draft one of the top young rucks in the top 25 or so? One thing they will take into account is that Kalani White is in the 2025 draft and what position will he likely play. This will play a part in our drafting. Kalani is part of the GC academy which has potentially up to 4 kids with potential to be elite in the 2025 draft. Hope he choses us!!!!! Unless the AFL steps in we could see another 2 or 3 early GC picks compromising the draft. The Northern states knowing what they are going to get from the Academies have the advantage of drafting around this. For example Sydney knowing it was getting Gulden and Campbell (mid types) via Academy could target talls in the draft. Huge advantage plus a sure pick up at a 20% pick points discount.

Elite decision makers
I expect they will go in hard to trade up. Unlike WCE we do not need numbers we need a couple of elite players for a refresh.

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Add pick 29 from Sydney for Grundy although we may do a deal for their pick 11 and we pass on a later pick.

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Giants up at half time. If they beat Port we get pick 13?? Fraction more trade power for us!

What's needed in 2024
Need some luck with injury. Melks and Petty pre finals - huge bad luck. Brayshaw flattened early in 1st final likely huge bearing on result of the final. We need another tall forward - Caddy would be great. Another tall back would be good - O'Sullivan? Another top mid ball getter - Brown, Woey can develop?, A hit with one of our 20's 2023 picks.
-
2023 Positives
JVR, McVee, we blooded a Woey, Laurie got a couple of games. Petty can play forward.

The GCS Pick 4 Thread
Talk is GC will put 10 on the table and get way overs when they on trade it. There is a fairly good chance of a highly rated player being there. Our 2023 1st rounder not so attractive. We are still in with a chance for pick 4 but we may have to throw in our future 1st with some of our 2023 picks. We will also get picks for Grundy and anyone else who bails. I think the AFL will have to restrict the discount to one player per draft per club.
-
The GCS Pick 4 Thread
Latest is that Grundy prefers the Swans for lifestyle balance. In any case even if we go for GC pick 4 they will likely want most of our 2024 picks plus a future 1st. Maybe we get to keep the 30's pick. The bulldogs alleged offer at 10 and 17 is hard to trump. GC on raw non pushed back picks already have around 4,500 points up their sleeve plus whatever they get for trade outs. They also get a whopping 20% discount on the bids they make. I suspect after trade outs they will be almost be able to use the bulldogs pick 17 to trade for a future pick and use pick 10 to trade to say us for extra points. We would likely pay overs in later picks. GC are in an unprecedented position.

Welcome to Demonland Kynan Brown
Agree he is getting better as time goes by. Recruiters like those sorts of young players. If we are to extend our 'window' we need quality players coming through even if it takes 2 or 3 years for them to become regulars. We need to nail this draft. Kalini White coming in a few drafts time.

Welcome to Demonland Kynan Brown
Late developer which is preferred by many recruiters. Gets some good mentions on Rookie me scouting notes. Easy to google. One game noted " eye catching acceleration after sharking hitouts" On another note from a different game a couple of weeks ago " Brown has a turn of speed, shared the ball and has had phenomenal numbers in the last handfull of games". I was searching for opinions on his 'speed'. Seems to be ok. In his last hitout against Eastern he performed just as well if not better than the 'wizard' Watson. Kynan has really stepped up in the U18's after his stint with Casey. Scouting notes say he is a hard worker. Twomey still thinks he will be a rookie or late pick. We may well be on to something here. Time will tell.
