Can someone please confirm our current pick holding for 2023: 5,11,39 (received for JJ), 81 (to pick Kynan Brown). Not sure whether i am correct on above.
-
Interestingly we have freed up a $mill in CAP space. Its been mooted by posters that we may make a play for GWS pick 7 and Nick Haynes.
-
Pick 6 which will be pick 7 gives maybe Sanders, O'Sullivan, Watson in the frame, Pick 11 puts Wilson, Murphy , Stevens, Shoemaker in the frame.
-
Its the poor decision that should have seen him suspended. Irresponsible and putting another in danger. Players get paid to make good decisions at the elite level. Something not quite right about no penalty.

One young gun will not solve WCE's problems. They will need several young players and i believe they will trade pick 1 for access to them. We have several 26/27 year old top players. Reid would be expected to come in and add value pretty quickly. North want multiple picks for young players and they are getting them via AFL kindness. Not a fan of trading Petty. Not sure how the club see Adams, Turner and Jefferson coming on as KPP'S. There is something cooking at the MFC for sure. The other side of the coin is that the club see us picking good players with those picks. I note that we have freed up a lot of CAP space with Grundy and Harmes off the list = circa $1 mill. I note we also have some young players at VFL level up for their 2nd/3rd or 4th preseason, eg Woey, Howes, Adams, Jefferson.

All the best James. You have been a premiership player as well as a very good footballer. Not many people can say that. Cheers

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
manny100 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
O'Sullivan will be a chance if he slips a spot or 2. 198CMS and in the 90's kg wise already. Probably will not need more than a pre season or so to fit in as a 3rd Tall then eventually 1st or 2nd KPB. If we miss out on him we may have a chance to pick up Murphy (if we nab GC's pick 10) a KPB that needs a few KGs on his 200cm but looks a good type. In this situation it would be ok if it was Sanders and Murphy. Of course we will hopefully get Kalani White in the 2025 draft which will be taken into account in our next couple of dratfs. -
Yep. i was in panic mode over speculation he would be traded. Everyone has personal downers from time ti time and work through it. He will be just fine.
-
I would have thought multiple 1st round picks. Clarry has a long term contract. Everyone has some personal issues from time to time and they pass. So will Clarry's. I hope we can keep him.
-
I very much doubt that the McKay talk is real. I would rather we trade up as far as we can and get best available. It worked in 2019. Rip into this draft including trading a future 1st if necessary. Next year we will see further cap freed up via all or 2 of Brown, TMc and Tomlinson - so we can go for a Free Agent.
-
Yep, watch the AFL change the rules. Bet they cut out discounts on points for Academy and FS draft picks.
-
Jon Ralph said if the Suns get Doggies pick 10 it will be between the Crows and Dees. Crows have picks 21 and 24 and he says we will have picks 25 and 33. He does not mention we also will have picks Grundy and Jordan. We could use our future 1st round and a pick or two in this draft. The Suns will also get picks for players they trade out such as Chol and Holland so will be very interested in collecting some future picks.
-
I would not mind 5, 10 and 13. 10 currently with the bulldogs. Would give us a chance to get Murphy a 200cm CHB if we miss out on O'Sullivan or prefer another player at 5. Pundits have Murphy around that area.
-
North will make a big play for GC's pick 4. They have been gifted 3 picks to throw at GC. North are stacked with early pick mid types so i expect they would go for 2 of Curtin, Caddy and O'Sullivan. Clarkson will insist on talls. Of course if they get pick 3 for McKay they make all 3 or 2 plus Mckercher or Sanders. We would then take best available at 5/6 and try to trade to an earlier pick to get Murphy (CHB).
-
Wonder whether North can trade future picks for 2023 picks to use in this draft?
-
Sam sounds like a cry baby. Bulldogs getting elite talent at the pointy end of the draft with a 20% discount is what the other clubs should by whining about not the Bullies. Not to mention the advantage of knowing what you are going to get in terms of elite talent eg talls means you can use draft other picks or FA's to fill other areas of your list. I have heard it all.
-
I would not be surprised if this occurs. North have heavily invested in mid types in previous drafts. I would not be surprised to see them draft O'Sullivan and maybe Curtin who will play from game 1 or Caddy as a partner for Larky up forward. Whatever there is always a surprise or 2 or 3 in the top 10 (top 15 this year with all the give aways).
-
I think we will go very hard and even throw in next years 1st rounder in an offer.
-
I do not mind compensation at pick 3 if McKay gets huge $$ but i will be cranky if they are given a priority pick. This draft is compromised to the ridiculous as it is. Give North 1st access to State league players even if it means creating a spot or 2 on their list to accommodate that. I think we will go very hard to move up from our pick 13 which after Academy/FS will likely be around pick 16/17. Our 1st pick i would be hoping for either Sanders, O'Sullivan or Caddy. Evidently the Dogs are desperate for Watson and will throw the kitchen sink at GC for pick 4, Given Dogs are getting FS Croft in the top 15 it makes sense. I was hoping we would get the GC pick.
-
No way. We have plenty of gas in the tank. Plus a good chance of picking up a couple of guns in this draft. Kalani White to come in 2025. A gun UFR in 2024 with cash save on retirement of at least 2 of Brown, Tomlinson and TMc and Grundy off the list this year..

Potential Father Son Prospect Noah Yze
manny100 replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Some players are late developers. For most kids its a fairly big step up from 1st to 2nd year Under 18's in terms of development. So i will watch his development next season. -
I think we actually gave it a good shake given the circumstances. Healthy teams win finals and premierships. In the lead up to the finals we lost Petty and Melksham who was in career best forward form. The we lost Brayshaw in the opening minutes of the game against Collingwood which forced Petracca to play more mid further knackering our forward line. Still we had the better of the magpies for the last 3 quarters. JVR lost it and copped a week suspension further knackering our chances against Carlton where we kicked ourselves out of a win. We have to hope Petty comes back ok and is not injury prone. We need to go full on to get GCs 1st rounder this year and pick elite kids who will be playing top footy in 2 or 3 seasons. Pick up a free agent at season 2024 end and draft Kalani White in 2025.
-
I think Petty has shown he can play forward and you can bet that is the plan.

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
manny100 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Its hard to bottom out now with so many Academy and FS early picks. GC have potentially up to 4 elite under 16's coming through to under 18's next year and eligible for the draft in 2025. Kaliani White is one of them and he will join us - and rightfully so. On top of that we have had compensation to North last year and maybe this year. WCE in the next year or 2? Then we have gun Tassy kids coming through may move to Tassy when they come in. AFL will tear up contracts. Its a fine mess the AFL are getting clubs into (mainly Vic clubs). Our current guns will be into their 30's (31/32/33) by the time we see Tassy drafts coming in. So we need to start bringing in elite juniors now. -
2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
manny100 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
With our game plan we need forward players who can find space in a crowded phone box. Petty and Fritter can do this but another would be handy. If we can get 2 or 3 of this type on the field at once it makes them hard to cover. Petty was a bigger loss than it was given credit for. Watson or Caddy? Better delivery to inside 50 would be handy as well. We need another player who is a ball collector as well as a good distributor? Hard to find these types.
