WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JIMMY TOUMPAS
CBDees replied to Demanding Success's topic in Melbourne Demons
I first was looking forward to Wines, then Grundy, then Plowman, in each case because they were big-bodied and could come straight into the side and make an immediate impact. Now I am hearing that the whippet Dimitri Toumpas is the most skilled person in the draft as GWS may take Plowman. I am fine with this as long as Toumpas is the best person available consistent with the Club's needs then go for it! -
I am with you on this. Would not be disappointed if we got Grundy in lieu of Wines or Plowman as a gun defender; in fact if we cannot secure Wines please take Grundy/Plowman instead of a midfielder (I don't care how fast Toumpas and Co. can run) as I have bad memories of Scully who didn't exactly win us many matches off his boot despite being the highly-touted No. 1 pick!
-
Hypothetically, the Toumpa & Wines not available?
CBDees replied to dee-luded's topic in Melbourne Demons
Grundy or Plowman. Our list would benefit by securing either the best 'big man' or the most talented defender in the draft! -
There is a few good blokes and if we miss Wines I hope that we would consider Grundy rather than just automatically opt for Toumpas or another elite insider. I am sure that Jones and Viney and Co. already give us reasonable midfield depth.
-
I must say that Anthony looks good (skillful and fast). Make an excellent rookie as a minimum.
-
p.s. Maybe Dawes can join Clarke as a second leader of the forwards as we seem to have multiple leaders through the middle and down back! In the end, the players themselves will have an input.
-
I agree! Let the two Jacks remain as captains with Jones also being a leader through his position within the midfield group. Clarke is a great leader for the forwards and i think that Watt should join Frawley as a leader of the backs. Garland I am relaxed about however the other players have voted him in so I expect that his leadership is respected.
-
Who would you add/remove from the Leadership Group?
CBDees replied to cooko's topic in Melbourne Demons
In Watts and McDonald but also feel Davey should be there subject to him making our top 22. No use having leaders running around in the VFL! Ultimately however it is the players themselves that determine the leadership group and i suspect that they can do that well despite all the advice from the armchair experts in this Forum (no matter how many posts individual people have made). Let us see who the players want as their leaders. -
Training - Wednesday 14th November, 2012 Welcome Chris Dawes
CBDees replied to Demon Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I full agree that Sellars and company won't come within a bulls roar of matching Watts for skill levels and endeavour! -
I am sorry guys but I am also a supporter of MacDonald. He is a hard at it type and has a good presence. I personally consider that he has more consistency about him than Sellars and we must remember that the other two were first round draft picks.
-
It is basically consistency that I was getting at, with Max Gawn listed as both 206cm and 208cm at different parts of the same website.

Nice to see an article on the Club website about Tom McDonald yet disappointing that the Club never updates player's statistics under drafting them. The article tells of Tom's endeavour to put on more weight over the pre-season and says how he is currently 96kg, yet if you go to the 'player profiles' the Club has him at 88kg. Surely, it is not too much to keep these periodically updated for members!

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - TOM GILLIES
CBDees replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I see no problem with Clint going to the rookie list (even if he is in the leadership group). What we really need is to have a list that will hit the ground running on Round 1 and keep going all year. I acknowledge that we will experiment and trial during the NAB Cup but I feel really good that we are going to have a serious tilt at it this year! -

I see that Gillies is now part of an article on the MFC website. Isn't the deadline today (13/11/2012) for us to pick up delisted players before the draft? -

CBDees replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I would hope that we would pick up a delisted player today if any appeal to Neeld. Although we are still eligible for both the National draft and Rookie draft, there are no guarantees that we will be entitled to participate in the pre-season draft in December. Let us end up with a full list strategy. -
We obviously opted for Roden because we had more faith in his body than that of a guy who has 20 seasons of the rigours of VFL behind him.
-
Personally, I think that it was the correct decision to retain Couch and Magner as rookies and promote Nicholson ant Evans (although the former has performed better to date). Magner started off well then seemed to burn out halfway through the season and this year in the pre-season he again seems to be firing. No problems in looking at Reimer & Co,. as long as we collect Wines and at least one other younger player.
-
The MFC website has Tynan at 76kg but everybody seems to be saying that he has a phsical presence. Does the MFC regularly update the data on the player profiles? I think not! It seems that they want to have record members but are not prepared to do simple things like keep their site up-to-date!
-
There is very little chance of this happening but stranger things have happened in football, that's for sure. I think realistically we will win 6 - 8 games and finish 14th ahead of GWS, GC, Port and the Doggies. Will be very happy to be proven wrong though! I must say that if as you suggest we beat the four teams above we will finish 11th! (We finished 14th this year.)
-
Get off his his back guys! I have no qualms about Silvia's contribution next year. Why don't you focus on Sellars (former top-ten draft pick) and what we can expect from him?
-
The Club website is adopting a 'Head-in-the-sand' attitude
CBDees replied to CBDees's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks for the comments one and all! Some very sage advice! How do i now close the thread? -
I have just watched the video clips and he is very exciting young man. I cannot see however how the other 15 teams will politely let us pick him up at 49! Dream on.
-
It would be nice if there were photos of all our pick-ups on the Club website players list (also if the stats of other players were kept updated). I don't care if they are smiling or not but how hard is it to maintain a website?
-
Personally I would love to see Watts replace Bartram, particularly when we are guaranteed to see more of Jack in the backline than we will of Bartram. When the leadership group was voted on last year, I expect that many expected them to be playing at opposite ends of the ground rather than Jack down back. I consider that he sets a great example and it is only fair that he be rewarded accordingly. I agree that Silvia has stepped up a notch but I cannot see who he should logically replace however.

Why do we have to bail out Casey by ending up with a VFL team in the middle of nowhere? I thought that we were looking at a new stadium down at Docklands in the City of Melbourne. Surely that could be investigated then at least our VFL team could be badged the Melbourne Demons and could be accessed by public transport (and a short walk from the tram terminus)!
