  1. Nice to see the article which i referred to finally emerge today! Click on link below: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2013-02-11/evans-optimistic-about-future
  2. I think that 'match-fixing' refers to when you actively conspire to lose a race/match that the majority of punters are expecting you to win and people involved profit, (usually be placing wagers on the un-expected result). In our case, the majority of punters weren't expecting us to win and the way to cause an upset for the bookmakers would of been for us to win. I think that when you look at our 2012 results when we only won a solitary match vs. four wins (five times in the lead at the final siren) in 2009, when playing the same teams (GWS& Suns were not there in 2009) that outsider could be excused for saying that it was last year we tanked (notwithstanding the fact that the priority pick was not an issue due to the GWS concessions).
  3. This morning's 3AW news reported that the AFP were looking into nine (9) AFL Clubs in relation to drug use and that one of these was Collingwood. Bring it on!
  4. Wow, a foward line with Buddy, Clark, Dawe, Pederson etc. Wouldn't that be nice?
  5. If anyone is guilty of 'bringing the game into disrepute' it is Carlton not Melbourne. Not only was their tanking in 2006-7 more blatant but they then exacerbated matters by paying Judd outside the salary cap, a small matter that the AFL was more than happy to countenance at the time (notwithstanding the fact that they were not so generous later with Scully's ploy with his father).
  6. I am presuming Clark and Trengove will be OK for Round 1?
  7. I am sure that Demitriou's salary package could be better spent, possibly by sharing it amongst the bottom six Clubs by allocating them $500,000+ each! That is what would be called a WIN-WIN outcome!
  8. As Schwab said at the AGM, the Club has some feelers out for Chinese organisations seeking to expand into OZ, similar to the LG sponsorship some years back! These things take time, especially when dealing with the inscrutable Chinese.
  9. Thanks for posting the thread on Barry! Does anybody know whether he got a run in the match against Richmond and, if so, how did he go?
  10. I don't mind Schwab at all. I think that he cannot be soley blamed if sponsors choose to leave. As he said at the AGM, the Board has a formula for sponsor levels and what/where they are acknowledged and we would be foolish to lower the bar. I am sure that it is the same at other Clubs. The drop-off in sponsors is directly related to the number of games we (fail to) win. You only have to look at the successful clubs vs bottom-dwellers to see who the sponsors gravitate towards. This is even more so in Victoria where we have nine Melbourne-based Clubs all clambering for a piece of the same pie! Start winning games and the sponsors will be back!
  11. There are plenty of songs, though fond of Men at Work, however I wish that they would play the second verse of our Club song after we win.
  12. Did Dom Barry play?
  13. i would stand barefoot on broken glass just to watch us whip the Pies.
  14. Didn't Dom Barry get a run at all? I thought that he was part of the squad that travelled up there?
  15. Thanks for the link B-H. I don't know why I cannot seem to get it up on the website?
  16. One of the papers this morning make specific positve mention of both both Aaron and Alwyn in their report on the game.
  17. He was upgraded from the rookie list along with Nicholson however i am unsure whether that is was it was about as surely that is old news.
  18. I guess the only thing that we can thank him for in a round-about way was Pederson after we traded him (pick 5) for Gysberts (pick 12) and then Gysberts fior Pederson. Round 1 will produce all the answers!
  19. On Thursday, I like many received a media update on my phone's MFC app with an article about Evans however was unable to open it. Ultimately it never appeared either on the app or the website. Why was it pulled and what did they decide not to report?
  20. One of the papers this morning mentioned the Davey brothers in the one sentance as both making a good contribution last night.
  21. Yes the same disgruntled player who got himself in the paper again this morning for keeping dubious company on a night out at Crown and who is currently 'helping the police with their enquiries'.
  22. Of course we were there first! We invented the blxxdy game! We were the Melbourne Cricket Club Football Club when we started life as I suspect that most of our first players were also MCC cricketers keeping fit during the winter. Personally, I would be happy to see the Pies go back to Victoria Park, Hawthorn to Glenferrie Oval and Richmond to Punt Road. An alternative would be for Richmond to go to the Kevin Bartlett Oval (which is in the city of Richmond) and let us use their ground as our training ground and home base, after all it is located in the City of Melbourne. Grassroots footy is what we should be encouraging!
  23. Probably because they mixed the two of them up.
  24. Why be fair to Richmond? Not playing their star players simply shows a lack of respect for inddigineous players! I hope that we whip them on the 22nd!
  25. All I can add is that I hope that more AFL Clubs use the same performance-enhancing drug (?) as Essendon did as they were the only Club that we beat last year (discounting Suns & GWS)!
