I am afraid that what Round 1 has shown us is that it is near impossible for teams to win the second game when they play consecutive games. Much as it grates on me, for this reason, i am going for beating the Roos in our first game with the Tigers getting the best of us but then losing their next game to the Roos. If we played first and last then I would tip us to win both games (as we are better than both North and Richmond). Maybe we should tank in the first game and then thrash the Tigers to stick it up CW!
-
It would help if the AFL next year ceased scheduling us to play home games at Etihad and scheduled all our MFC home games on either a Friday/Saturday night or Saturday arvo. If that happened we would not notice playing a $5000K fine (especially when we start winning games this year).
-
This idea has great merit if CS and the MFC team can pull it off. Maybe we can come out of it with a cost-neutral outcome and CC can take some long-service leave doing a management or marketing course somewhere in the USA for the next 12 months?
-
I do hope that it is finished for us. I am sure that the AFL does too as it now clears their investigators to look into Carlton, Richmond, Collingwood, Fremantle, Brisbane, West Coast and other guilty parties (when they finish with Essendon and the drug issue)
-
Add in Byrnes, Watts, McDonald and the two Jones boys and I see us making the eight in 2013 unless unscheduled injuries intervene!
-
I like Neeld, but the handful of games was actually a solitary game versus the four that we won (against the same 15 teams) in 2009 with Bailey at the helm and (according to the AFL,) 'trying to lose'

His performance at the AGM had me convinced. I am sure that he knows exactly what he is doing with his overhaul of our playing list and I am sure the players are all on board for the jouney!

Gysberts was in this morning's paper (in an article on the Bulldogs) with a comment of how much he had bulked up since the beginning of this year.

Intra Club Game - Friday 15 February 9:30am @ Casey Fields

How do you rate (M) Jones, Toumpas and Viney as 'are by no means stars' when they have not yet played AFL? You clearly omitted to use the word "YET"! -
Intra Club Game - Friday 15 February 9:30am @ Casey Fields

He promised at least 39 goals at the AGM. I hope that that doesn't include Friday's 5! -
Don't forget Byrnes when you are speaking of a winning forward line! Add Clark to the mix and it only gets better (especially when Watts and Sellar can move up from the backline to give us some additional depth should there be injuries to any of the above). P.s. There is also Fitzpatrick to help out whilst Clrk is managed back into the team.

Colin Sylvia - can he take a step up at last?
CBDees replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
It should be noted that the player that re cruited after Slyvia (No. 3) was McClean (No. 5) and he also did not realise his potential until the latter half of last season (with Carlton). McClean went from being delisted to a MVP and in their intraClub on the weekend was a stand-out. No reason at all why Col cannot similarly lift, especially when he stated with more talent! -
Happy for the Pies to play at the MCG as long as they take over our Sunday twighlight spot! Also not adverse to them palying a few 'home games' at Etihad!
-
Let us hope that his performance is consistent over the 22 rounds unlike Magner who started off impressively but seemed to burn out towards the latter half of the season!
-
Personally I went with heart rather than logic, picking the Doggies to beat both the Bombers and the Pies. Wishful thinking I know however I do love watching Collingwood lose as much as watching Melbourne win!
-
I am impressed with his potential from watching the DeeTV interview with him (link below) http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2013-02-12/maia-westrupp-interview If he keeps improving based on what he has absorbed in a short time, then I feel that we may have unearthed a good colt!
-
If we list him as an international rookie, does he have to go into the ND or do we get first option?
-
We are not bringing him over however. He is staying in Auckland for his education so I suspect that he will not develop much until we get get him accross to Melbourne.
-
Some people here are suggesting that we had a genuine choice of a different outcome in 2009, perhaps of winning enough games to get into the eight; the reality is that we didn't! Why aren't we talking about last year (2012) when we only won a single game playing against the same fifteen teams? Did we tank last year, did we bring the game into disrepute? No we did not! We did the best we could, with the players we had and the injuries we had. Somebody has to lose every time two teams run out onto the paddock and it is not because the other team tanked!
-
Good thing that we got him young as he will have plenty of time to catch up with Nathan Jones and Mitch Clark in the tatts department. Might even see some facial tattoos?
-
Nice volleyball video but what number was he (as all Kiwis look the same to me)?
-
Dean Bailey's orders were to win games like every other coach in the AFL! What are you suggesting that they were?
-
This guy Michelangelo in this morning's Hun is more creative than his Italian counterpart, suggesting that we get penalised 48 premiership points over the next four years (16 in 2013, 12 in 2014, 8 in 2015 and 4 in 2016) plus any MFC official identified being barred for life. Let's hope that we get exonerated in full and he gets barred from journalism for life! It is about time the AFL extended their powers to make journalists accountable for passing sentance when ignorant of the facts.
-
If Mitch is not OK for round 1, who will be CHF, Pederson, Sellar, or Fitzpatrick (or Watts)?
-
Thereafter the group split into blues and whites for separate drills. Down the other end of the ground there seemed to be a kick out type drill. Whereas the end I was watching had a 6 on 6 exercise deep in defence where a group would try to move the ball out by hand under lots of pressure form the opposing 6 players. As expected the bigger bodies thrived with Jones and Viney the standouts, consistently being able to rebound the ball cleanly by hand. These two seem to be a level above all other midfielders with their pace, size and tenacity. Others who impressed were Strauss who showed good pace and was willing to back himself, Dunn again used his bigger body to break tackles and McKenzie was the standout chaser and haggler. All in all a solid session with Dunn, Jones and Viney the standouts __________________________________________________________________________________ Great report but you need to identify whether you are referring to N or M Jones!
