  1. I think I used the wrong word by squandered instead of utilised. I consider Barry an astute pick-up.
  2. All the comparison with Bennell. Let us keep in mind the fact that we squandered a fist round draft pick on Barry and I am giving our recruiting division the benefit of knowing what they were doing at the time.
  3. Especially when St Kilda, Freo etc also start or revert to mostly white. If our shorts get muddy, we become undistinguishable.
  4. I have been very interested in following the arguments and rationale in relation to the composition of our forward and backlines. maybe it is a bit early to start also looking at the midfield etc however as the engine room it is where it all starts. I have pasted below, my thoughts for now, however they will undoubtedly continue to change as I absorb all the comments emanating from the training sessions: Centreline: Sylvia, Grimes, Trengove Followers: Jamar, N. Jones, Viney Interchange: Davey, Toumpas, McKenzie Substitute: Rodan
  5. I don't care what design our jumper takes with the following riders: It is only two colours (Red & Blue) the 'away' jumper is identical to the 'home' jumper Collingwood always gets away with not having an 'away' jumper and there are no other Clubs in the 18-team competition who have the same two (red & blue) colour scheme as ours. Add to the fact that we wear different colour shorts to the opposition and red socks there is no way that we could possibly be mistaken if we took a hard line on this. Under the current situation, when we play St. Kilda or Freo, sometimes it is near impossible to distinguish and our 'away' jumper exacerbates the situation.
  6. I don't disagree with you on Mac however I feel Watts must be a permanent member of the backline as he is on a par with McDonald and Frawley as a valued player. More important than Strauss (who could be the interchange)
  7. I have enjoyed the discussion about the possible forward structure, now i suspect that we should look at the backline (later to be followed by, the Centreline, onballers, and interchange). Here is mine for what it is worth: Backline: Gillies, Frawley, Garland Half-Backline: Dunn, T. McDonald, Watts Now I realise that I have left out the smalls such as Jetta and Nicholson however i expect that at least one of them to be on the interchange and or used depending on the team we line up on on the day.
  8. I have the same six but different positions. Half-Forwardline: Pederson, Clark, Howe Forwardline: Blease, Dawes, Byrnes
  9. Thanks for your response to my post. I am now somewhat clearer after viewing the Casey Scorpions website which I had not viewed before (relying instead on a link that used to be on the MFC website)
  10. This still doesn't answer questions relating to who coaches them or who do they answer to during the week (or where does one find a list of Casey players).
  11. Frankly I see AFL members dominating the the membership. Can the AFL members dominate?
  12. I am a bit bewildered as to who the Casey Scorpions are and who they fit in with Melbourne's game plan for 2013? How does Rohan Welsh fit in with Mark Neeld's coaching plans? How does their leadership team get a match when there are enough Melbourne-listed players to field a team without calling upon the Casey-listed players. Where can one access a list of the Casey-listed players and their profiles? How many would push out players from our list? Who coaches them when the Melbourne list is announced on a Thursday evening and presumably the Melbourne-listed players train under Neeld up till that time? Last year Bates was their B&F and Melbourne players helped them to a monor premiership, only to withdraw players before the finals. Who coaches them when the Melbourne list is announced on a Thursday evening and presumably the Melbourne-listed players train under Neeld up till that time? I have illustrated (see teams below) how I see the association in action presuming that we continue with our minimal injury scenario however I would love to hear others view on exactly how the relationship is to work out as a Win-Win for both Clubs because at present Casey supporters may not see many of their players on the paddock. Melbourne Demons 2013 (An option) Backline: Gillies, Frawley, Garland Half-Backline: Dunn, T. McDonald, Watts Centreline: Sylvia, Grimes, Trengrove Half-Forwardline: Pederson, Clark, Howe Forwardline: Blease, Dawes, Byrnes Followers: Jamar, N. Jones, Viney Interchange: Davey, Toumpas, McKenzie Substitute: Rodan Casey Scorpions 2013 (an option) Backline: Terlich, Sellar, Nicholson Half-Backline: Davis, T, MacDonald, Jetta Centreline: Evans, Tapscott, Barry Half-Forwardline: Kent, Hogan, Spencer Forwardline: Bail, Fitzpatrick, Strauss Followers: Gawn, Magner, M. Jones Interchange: Couch, Tynan, Clisby Substitute: Stark
  13. I am disappointed to hear Gawn is again on the long-term injury list. The MFC website does not include injuries so when is he expected to return; is it his year?
  14. I like your choices for the small / mid-size forwards and backs.
  15. p.s. The fixture can never be fair as long as we have to play home games at Etihad (whilst Collingwood play all their Victorian matches on our Ground).
  16. Can't possibly work if the bottom six get eliminated (or tank for draft picks). If that is the case, then MFC might have a short (17 match) season for years (however quite a bonus ffor those with range rovers and ski lodges)!
  17. Is Jurrah eligible to play (even though he is not on any list)?
  18. Interesting indeed that Grimes was the only player from our midfield ranked in the top 35%. Wasn't the Russian an all-Australian not so long ago?
  19. It is semantics suggesting Scully was the priority pick when it was virtually the toss of a coin at one stage between the two. If we didn't receive a priority pick in 2009 then we still would of picked up Scully with our first pick (making Trengove effectively the 'priority pick').
  20. What is wrong with the statement that they highlighted in bold? It is a statment of fact!Good article in the Hun IMO.
  21. I am staggered that the MFC would chose to sack CS on the eve of our response to the 'tanking' saga unless it is something that they discussed before. If we had to have a sacrificial lamb why would it be our Chief Executive ahead of our General Manager-Club Development (CC)? It is far harder to replace a CE than CC's role, particularly when we have secured Neeld, Craig, Viney etc since 2009. After all CC's role is largely fabricated with the recruitment of the others and is further removed from involvement with the players than it was in 2009.
  22. Great article! why lose it on page 151 of another thread! Anson puts it so succinctly in his last para as Vagg acknowledges!
  23. If we are playing an intraclub game, do we combine this with Casey Scorpions, since we don't have 44 players on the track to form two teams? How does it work?
  24. All this focus on Barry because he weighed 70kg (at time of drafting). We also recruited Nathan Stark at 70kg and nobody has started a thread critical of that choice, depite the fact that he is older and taller by 4cm or 2 inches (i.e. more lightly framed). I am sure that Barry will end up a Superstar ahead of Stark.
