Yes it will be interesting. We have plenty of small forwards like Burgoyne on the list but with Bedford gone, the excitement factor he might bring is appealing. Burgoyne could be a handy addition. Kye Turner brings additional depth to key tall defenders but I’m not sure this is needed either. May, Petty, Tomlinson are already key pillars and we have development players like Disco Turner and Adams.

Ben Brown to Shave Head for Charity
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes BBB is a star of a person. No arguments. -
Thanks KC. Interesting additions. Cross is a midfield running type and Galvin is a strong midsized defender. Galvin should be a chance to get a debut as he’s physically ready to play (depending of course on MFC player availability). No news on Jonti Schuback? @KC from Casey Have we heard whether Miles Shepherd is returning. He was very good in a few games and I was thinking if he had another year at Casey and got more game time , he might elevate to be looked at as a rookie chance at end of “23.

Love it. Great detail and really appreciated. Have 2 concerns. 1- In 2022, Dees appeared to go wide and wide and slow. Often our attackers were easily cornered across the boundary line or had little space to work. Sounds like we will play the same wide boundary type game. That’s too easy to defend imv. The corridor is harder but comes with greater rewards. It takes real skill to penetrate through the corridor. Would love to see that challenge taken onboard. 2- our 2022 useless obsession with kicking to the (deep) forward pocket. High and wide to the pocket again. 😡 … Is that still on show? We are told “it easier to then defend as less goals are given up if the opposition rebounds”. Ffs. Take on our talent and confidence. We attack to score. Get it to the hot spot. Hit targets. How we bring the ball inside our forward 50 is probably the biggest impact change we can deliver in 2023. Get it right and I’m confident we will win 🏆 it again. -
Yes a good assessment. Though - I’d have Howes as “could elevate “. He only played 7-8 games at Casey last year and whilst he showed his potential, he’d still need to develop his body before he’s ready. Definitely has the potential to be a very good versatile (wing/forward) player. - A fit Tmac would be a lock - Goody would also have Spargo, Sparrow and ANB as “locks” !!!!

Clarry injured ??!! False alarm. Phew!! -
Definitely good to see young Ned Moodie as likely to come on to the Casey list. He looked like a solid lad, with good skills and was hard at the footy. Saw him play only three times in 22 but looked like a player.

Daisy Pearce calls time on a stellar career

We are in sync. I thought straight away that would be an amazing honour to Daisy and to all the Demon AFLW B&F winners. The Daisy Pearce Trophy 😁(keep medals for BOG in games like the GF). -
Our interesting mix of talls for 2023
spirit of norm smith replied to deelusions from afar's topic in Melbourne Demons
Chandler won’t start in best 22. Goody loves Spargo. He’s always one of the first picked. He has 6 possessions and two goal assists per game. -
The best part about trying to pick our best 22 is that it is very difficult. Shows our depth across many positions and how competition for places should drive the high performance once again the season.

Kozzzy has the elite speed in the forward 50. He need to prioritize to retain him. ⭐️ Hunt is a loss given that he covered a lot of small defenders in 2022 (except when Hibbo took Charlie Cameron). Rivers might have to fill that role more. Bedford looked good when given an opportunity but needed to show more. Baker didn’t play so not missed … he simply was behind Langdon and Brayshaw and not called upon. Jonti Schuback in my view was the best youngster who missed out getting drafted, I’d like to see us either pickup him or add him to Casey Demons roster. He has excellent pace and skill. I have called out that now is the time to look forward to get youngsters with midfield speed and another half back rebounding runner in the 2023 draft.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
spirit of norm smith replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wish list in 2023 draft. Pace and pace and run and run. Like to see another quality mid and 2 youngsters with genuine pace as half back/outside runners. Lorenz currently on the top of the 2023 names imv. -
Still trying to work out how Max Gawn as Captain and the current All Australian ruckman … is being put as full forward, forward pocket or bench. Grundy comes in but surely he starts on the bench and rotates in. Gawn can rest forward or a spell on the Pune only.

Strong versatile and fast team. Very good recruiting and list management. Got excellent kids through their academy. Blakey Mills Heeney Campbell Gulden. That’s 5 excellent young players. Even playing field? They will be top 4 again in my view.

Contract Extension for Blake Howes
spirit of norm smith replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great news. Howes has that class and composure needed. Hoping he can get his body ready and his attitude ready for AFL intensity. -
Agree. White and Munro were huge through the whole year. Grey played excellent footy when given the opportunity.

Thanks @Whispering_Jack Shame to see a local lad like Ellison move to Williamstown. Casey has been very good at uplifting local talent and giving them an opportunity. I would like to see young Roan Steele develop more in 2023. Hope Casey retains him. Ryan Valentine, Tommy McRae and Myles Shepherd all took their opportunities and would be welcomed back. Luca Goonan also one kid who I thought showed some talent as a inside mid type. From the 2022 under 18s group, undrafted duo Luke Bailey from Stingrays and Jonti Schuback from Gippsland look the most likely youngsters now available to come into the program.
