I think it's a lot to do with Max to be honest mate, these guys are dominant mids, but i don't think we get anything like the value for Max's dominance that we should, but the reality of Max's dominance is that we set up very aggressively to win clearance and don't give ourselves much room to defend as a result, so if we lose stoppage or they get it to the outside we're under the pump. Max in my view is the single most dominant tap ruckman i've ever seen, and we should be scoring 5-6 goals per game as a result of that dominance. but the majority of his taps the players aren't reading, or aren't quite right so they're either contested or to the other side too often. I think a gun midfield/stoppage coach could tidy this up very quickly, i think this is the area, where if we get it right, we will become a top 4 side very quickly. because our backline is solid, and if we can get the ball in to our forwards 1v1 from clean clearance more regulalry, they'll be hard to stop.

I completely agree, and i think we have the list to be a top 6 team in 2021, no question. i question if we have a senior coach, FB department capable of getting consistent enough performances. i'd argue if we're not sitting firmly in the top 8 come mid season next year regardless of fixture, Simon Goodwin needs to go. Personally i'd prefer to see him go now, i think there are options in the marketplace who the majority of supporters would have more confidence in for 2021.

I don't wanna be "that guy" but i can't help but feel like this could be us in 12 months time if we don't improve in 2021. i feel like there are enough players a bit concerned about our direction now that another year without finals we could be facing some players wanting to leave

Contracted lad. Essendon wouldn't even entertain a trade, and if we somehow did get to the negotiation stage they'd want one of Petracca or Oliver for sure. much better to just keep talking to him and have a serious crack at the end of next year.
-
Not too sure mate but i was told it was a combination of the trade value, and the contract % paid by each club. I think North would like us to pay all or most of his contract and i reckon you're right they'd want our pick 23 or whatever it is and we're probably thinking more a third or fourth rounder
-
Mate it's strange, some of the decisions that club is making at the moment are just incredible. I personally believe when you push guys out of your club publicly you've gotta expect minimal compensation. the way the Polec Situation has gone, there is no way he's going back there. they should be happy we'll take on a part of his salary and get him off the books for them. I don't get the impression we're being unreasonable with our requests either, we just have a really clear idea what we think he's worth, and we're very interested at that price
-
Carlton are not going to have a fun time getting this trade done.
-
In this case it's definitely a massive over the top contract offer.
-
I've heard that Polec would like to come to the Dees and has informed NM of that, but it sounds as though the informal chats the two clubs have had around what a trade might look like, we've been a fair way apart. Sounds like North are quite delusional on his trade value, and are really keen to shed his contract from their books and MFC's interest is conditional on only paying a limited portion of his salary and have a significantly reduced trade value on him. It sounds like whoever wants Ben Brown is going to encounter similar hurdles

Clarry is not going anywhere, this is just more garbage by Sam Mclure to try and feel relevant.

Really wanna give Tmac a bit of a pump up! it's been a very hard year for the big fella, young child, in the hub, not playing good footy, not having confidence in his body. He's got plenty of interest out there, so for him to decide he wants to get back to his best with the MFC is awesome in my opinion. I really do hope that Burgo can get him onto a great program, a full pre season and we can see 2018 TMAC again because if he can get back to that form, and Weideman continues to develop suddenly our forward half looks a heck of a lot more dangerous.

Dees Reviewing Senior Footy Department Positions
Ted Lasso replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
From what i've been hearing it sounds like the entire development department is very much under the microscope as well. there is a concern that a few players have seen their development stall in the past 2 seasons. It sounds like this review isn't missing anyone. Personally though i don't really see what has given Pert or anyone confidence in Goodwin, i think he rode the momentum from Roosy as far as he could and now it's gone and he's clueless -
Generally assistant contracts seem to have a clause that lets the coach leave no questions asked for a direct promotion, but unless that's to a senior coaching roles it's a bit murky. I suspect given where Hawthorn is at they're not going to try and hold him this year, i think they probably thought they'd go a bit better this year
-
He's well known for his match day tactics and played a huge role in Hawthorns ball movement during their flag years so i suspect it'll be something similar to the role Craig Jennings used to hold.
-
No, for the right offer i'd trade Steven May. would take a pretty incredible offer but i think we're being too lose on the term untradable. Clarry and Trac are going to be two of the dominant mids in the comp for the next decade and i can't see us trading our captain But if a really good offer came for May i'd look at it.
-
No, i totally agree, so many of these things come back on Goody and if the only reason he hasn't been sacked is his contractual situation, that's a shame. I think missing finals this year with a clean bill of health demonstrates very clearly he's not the right guy, and it's time to get someone who can get the best out of this group. I look at the Saints, who in my opinion have a less talented list than us, but they've been consistently good all year, and made finals and now beaten a good side in a final
-
Trac, Clarry and Gawn are our only untradable players in my opinion, the rest if the price is right i'd be happy to consider offers
-
Goody is going to get to hand pick his coaching panel, because this is make or break for his coaching career.
-
Sounds like the decisions was between Smith and Oscar and we've gone with Smith.
-
This is gunna come down to price, if North are willing to pay a portion of his Salary and accept a later pick, i suspect Polec will be a Demon in 2021. i'm sure we've got a price in our head and if they're willing to meet us, great, if not. we've got other options as well
-
I agree Red, it does feel like a swap of those two players presents on the surface as advantageous for both parties, not sure if it'd involve picks or anything as well. but they need a ruckman, we need a forward ruck, there is some logic to a swap being presented
-
I'd prefer hang on to ANB and trial him as a full time winger next season, he's got the endurance and running capacity to be a really dangerous endurance link up option for both attacking and defensive plays. his kicking is a tiny bit suspect, but i think he is improving in that space a bit as well.
-
No, i am okay with Issac Smith because he plays a role we lack, Heath Shaw would be taking the spot of a Trent Rivers which is obviously bad
-
Bombers seriously keen on him. but as you said not really someone we need, though we should look at all good players who become options.
-
For those on here who have met Jack, this seems like a ridiculous thing to say, because he's a great and selfless person. but he's not a selfless player, he tries to be but the way he impacts the midfield takes away from everyone else in there. it's no conincidence the best our midfield has looked in a long time was our 2018 finals run with Oliver, Harmes and Brayshaw as the 3 main mids. Pace, Spread, inside/outside, system, defense and attack. IMO that's our starting 3 mids with Petracca rotating through
