Oh right! sorry ET! didn't read it properly. yes you're absolutely correct. we're not getting near pick 9 unless we offer up our 2021 first round pick.
-
what you're talking about though is a 2021 first, for a 2020 first, and 2 players they've identified and shown interest with as steak knives. it's a good deal for the Giants. if we have the same finish next year, they get pick 9 back, and Preuss and McDonald for nothing. if we improve slightly it's 2 players they want, for shuffling the pick back 2-3 spots.
-
Reckon you're spot on mate, 23 for Brown and Preuss and our 2021 first round pick, for the compensation pick for Williams #9 Might need other pieces around that but that'll be the idea Aiming to bring in Smith, Brown, McRae and Hind
-
Hannan and Oscar were both on reasonable coin i believe so both leaving would take a bit of pressure off things, Tmac is the big one, he's on A grader $$ i reckon if the Giants were willing to take on his salary we'd ask for very little in a trade.
-
3 years is bold, but he was at Footscray before coming to the Dees so the Dogs insiders would know plenty about him. Hard to see him being any more regular in their best 22 than he is in ours.
-
I mean, i just see 9th as a massive failure for a list that in 2018 had experienced year on year improvement and made a prelim, to then get an injury free run and still not make finals is an unmitigated disaster. 1-2 players crediting Goodwin with improved seasons is great, but our overall performance cannot by anyone connected to reality, be considered anything other than a failure and a significant amount of that comes back on the coach.
-
There is the slim possibility that we sign Ben Brown, and then Tmac re-discovers his 2018 orm and we suddenly have a great forward 2 punch combo.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Ted Lasso replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
We made a huge mistake in backing in Weid and Tmac when Hogan left. didn't understand the referred pressure that would be on them to back up what really was some good form. I think we see this as a chance to undo that mistake. I also think we're at risk of putting to much pressure on Jackson, yes he's very talented, but to put all your bets on him being the second forward target at AFL level for a full season in a team that should be aiming to be top 6 is a huge ask for a very raw second year player. Brown totally removes that pressure off him. I don't expect Jackson to play every game in the 1's next year, he's going to take time to develop. Brown and Weideman i'm confident can work together. -
Not holding my breath at all. and to be honest your point is why i'm so anti goodwin, we're a team that could improve drastically under the right coach

Tom Morris reporting that Clarries management have said this is definitely not happening.

The thing is, even if Brown has an okay year, and kicks say 30 it means Weid gets the second defender, so his output should improve. and Jackson/Fritsch on the 3rd/4th defenders is dangerous as well. we just need to make sure we can get enough forward 50 tackles with that setup -
Regressed? He's had a slightly down year on his lofty standards but he was still top 5 in a bunch of really key stats for the league as a midfielder, made the AA squad, finished top 10 in the brownlow and proabably was unlucky to not finish higher in our BnF i certainly would have had him a close third behind May. I think he's totally justified to have found the HUB really hard, i think a lot of players from all teams did, frustrated that a list that should be playing finals has missed for the second year in a row. I don't have any concerns at all about Clarries attitude, or his work ethic, or what he's delivered on field. he's still incredibly young, has had an amazing first 5 seasons that would be up there with any of the modern day champion players first 5 years. He's a competitive animal, desperate to win, and i actually think it's a great thing players are annoyed about missing finals, so they should be. no excuses in 2021. if we don't make finals we will be getting a new coach, and losing players. but we have the list, especially with our prospective signings to bounce back strongly. and i'm backing Clarry to use this as fuel. i've made him my early 2021 brownlow tip.

Definitely trying to distract for SOS dropping a nuke on the club. it's always hard to tell if it's Sour Grapes but i am inclined to believe him.
-
And we have about 8 players who've been AA in the last 5 years. which shows that while not all were at that level this season, we have more than enough quality to be challenging for top 4. I guarantee you, if the club works out how to maximize Max's dominance, we finish top 4 next year.
-
I can see scope for improvement, for sure, but similar to you, i don't think it happens under Goodwin. unless Yze can have an incredible influence. I see guys like Jackson, Rivers, Kozzie all having a full pre season, Weideman continuing to grow, Oliver i think has another level to go to, May and Lever improving together. and the additions of some more outside run and polish and hopefully Ben Brown. I think that's a top 4 side on paper, so if we don't make it, and we're not smashed by injuries, we will know why.
-
I rate him, i think he'd really steady up our half back line, he's a good ball user, brave in the air and a good on field leader, could release Salem to have stints further up the field,
-
I wouldn't rule out a third team coming hard late for Saad. the Blues are gunna play hardball and push him to the PSD if they have to and the Bombers will want ALOT. i reckon if another team asks the question late and can convince Saad they may be a chance to steal him.

Pretty much it, need to start making finals consistently, list is good enough so no excuses -
Anyone notice that Clarry was wearing a carlton tie, and had a Simon Goodwin Voodoo doll on his table?

Nev is one of my favourite all time Melbourne players and a great human being but it's pretty clear Goody has decided to move past him, if we can get him to a club that does see him in it's side i think we have a responsibility to do it, rather than keeping a great servant playing in the 2's for one more year.
-
One thing the MFC does pretty well is allows young guys who aren't getting much of a look in when they could elsewhere to move to another club for opportunities with minimal fuss. Dom Tyson, Oscar McDonald, Brayden Preuss, Mitch Hannan. happy to let them go and hopefully thrive elsewhere. i think it's one of those things that does help in the bigger scheme of things
-
i'd take a top 16 coach
-
Played cricket against him a couple of years ago, and he doesn't like a short ball much at all. good fit for us though, good pace, endurance, line breaking, can find the goals

Looks like the Pies are trying to push Treloar and De Goey out the door and going to try and bring in Merrett, Cameron and or McDonald/Jetta. interesting by the. they invested so much to get Treloar to the club, strange to push him out.
