Correct. they ran a narrative that everything is leaking out of Melbourne and it's Buckleys job to lose and a boat race Plot twist, we chose Steven King, the CEO said Steven King was chosen outright, it didn't in any way, shape or form leak and the media have egg on their face. The whole idea we asked Buckley what he'd say if we offered him the job is confirmation we wanted him looks silly when you watch the presser from yesterday and see we asked Steven King the same question. It shows we really wanted a coach who desperately wanted the job

Probably we would have to pay a little bit either way, i don't think we're going to get a high end trade return and clear the books totally.

Pick 6, the Suns 2026 First round pick and Sam Flanders for Christian Petracca and pick 23 feels like a win-win, Trac helps the Suns win now, Dees add 3 good young players to the already exciting young core and strengthen our draft hand significantly

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
At first Bucks was unsure about if he wanted to coach, then he found Hypothetical Tasmania more attractive than Melbourne anyway. It's philosophically inconsistent. He's saying he didn't even know he wanted to coach but he applied and went through the process for a less than ideal option anyways? Here is the reality, Bucks wanted the Melbourne job, Steven King is who we wanted, this takes nothing away from anyone involved in the process, and he's trying to walk away without losing any of the shine he has as a prospect. If he was more attracted to Tasmania, he wouldn't have wasted our time, if he didn't really want to coach he wouldn't have wasted out time.

Isn’t it funny. They guessed Nathan Buckley, they were wrong and instead of admitting that the process itself has to be rotten. We interviewed and chose Steven king, we are happy so beyond that who cares?

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
Settle guys. He’s saving face. Nathan Buckley wasn’t our preferred candidate, Steven king was. If we really wanted Nathan Buckley we would have waited for him. We are waiting for Geelongs campaign to end for Steven king anyway so little difference

I completely agree but i think talking specifically about craft, what comes first a players prefered craft or patterns or the clubs intended structure? the fact none of our players have lead at the ball very much comparted to other sides to me is a bit of evidence they've been told not to, rather than that they can't actually do it. It'll be really interesting to see.

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
I think the forwards would be pretty excited by him validating that they perhaps haven't been given the best chance the forward set up and conversaion has been slammed by the media and rightly so, but it's hardly Jacob Van Rooyens fault if the ball is coming in too slow, high and to a bad spot and he has to win a 3 on one against much more experienced players to get it. I reckon he's a massive chance to really spike as a player in 2026.

The irony being Steven king was meeting our list management team for the first time at the same time as TM tweet and Steven king confirmed he’s not spoken to trac in person either. Yeah I think TM is either taking an educated guess or trying to stir up a story.

Rumours
Hard to watch that presser and the questions about Sam Flanders and conclude anything other than Steven King would absolutely love to get him to the club

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
Wow he's impressive. I think the fact this entire thread isn't people upset we didn't get Nathan Buckley or someone else is a real reflection on how impressive he has presented so far. I don't think many people would have even had Steven King top 3 a week and a half ago, but now it seems everyone is really pleased so he's impressed a lot of people which is great! Shame we now have to wait for months to see the team play again

Geez I am excited to see what players like petracca and kozzie and rivers and Windsor can do in a system that suits them- Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
I would hazard a guess that we will see a very aggressive and assertive game style in 2026. Built around winning and dominating clearance and giving our forwards first crack at kicking big scores- Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
I don’t think we would have hired Buckley even if he was desperate for the job. The surprising thing for everyone is that Steven king seemingly did legitimately win the process and was the best candidate. I liked Buckley coming on but not if he didn’t actually want the job or was only sort of keen.- Farewell Judd McVee
@Ghostwriter go tell Judd that Ted is getting impatient and either he or the club needs to announce it soon or I’ll unleash my evil alter-ego on them “led tasso”- NON-MFC: Finals Week 02
Suns are toast- Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
Maynard is beyond forgiveness- Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
As of right now neither player has requested a trade and the new coach wants them to stay so I’d be pretty shocked if they aren’t sees round 1 next year- Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
The idea we didn’t want to wait for Buckley is so silly. King is finishing off with the cats so he may not officially start until after the grand final anyway so timeline is no different- NON-MFC: Finals Week 02
I can’t work out who to tip tonight Brisbane’s experience and top end talent vs the suns elite young talent, health and stability but inexperience- Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
