  1. Four bad games in 2018... Hawthorn loss (completely outplayed) St Kilda loss Geelong loss where we were 30 points up in the last quarter Prelim final (the worst) I have little idea if there is a common thread amongst those losses but we certainly need to work on ensuring that the magnitude/impact of those losses do not happen in 2019. Sure we'll have other losses but each of the 2018 losses I have listed were bad losses.
  2. ah.. the old discretionary re classification trick At the world cup they reclassified most of the stadiums to category 1 for the round of 16 onwards Nosebleed for US$250 round of 16. Worth complaining about Optus* though if only to get some transparency in the ticketing arrangements Sorry should have said Craypot Stadium
  3. Essendon 2000 it just doesn't happen like that
  4. was thinking today that a guy with a name like William Hoskin-Elliot could never really be a Collingwood player ?
  5. The state leagues etc are not a pot of gold. Leigh Matthews made the excellent point a few weeks back that there is not that much there that has not been thoroughly picked over in the draft saying look at Essendon who had the right to bring on whoever they wanted from the various leagues and how many played on the following year. Sure there are the exceptions but picking those exceptions is still a lottery. So what did GCS and Brisbane get as well as this?
  6. Is that all they got by way of priority?
  7. Oh please... not the tired and young story again. We were in a prelim. It was there for the taking and we fluffed it. Hopefully next year is better but admit it.... Saturday was the worst performance of the MFC for 2018.
  8. home and away.... 15 wins Finals ... 2 wins Mind you I would like more.... much more ?
  9. so if we nominate him with our second round pick which is around pick 35 another club has to use their first round pick to take him from us? Am I correct At 173cm he is the same size as Spargo... can you carry two smalls in a modern AFL side? Interesting
  10. On reflection and based only on the first two finals it was probably Weideman. As No 10 says above my view of a Mr September is someone who goes to that next level. I was hoping it would be Petracca who while having an okay first few finals didn't have that stellar lift in form. Sidebottom at Collingwood and Martin last year are perfect examples of the elusive Mr September
  11. Cannot remember a year when we easily made the finals. Even the year where we were top of the ladder with a few rounds to go we were that full of injuries we lost every game after that. Emotional roller coasters and the MFC go hand in hand. poor old Tiger fans.. spent the whole year waiting for the GF and fell at what they thought would be a regualtion hurdle before the big day. Not sure what is worse
  12. Would be very upset if the classic Richmond stand is demolished. The remaining part of that ground is completely devoid of character.
  13. the dreaded tv driven time slots and in this instance the madness of having to get a flight back to Melbourne. At the world cup this year the TV slots worked in reverse and the games were often late. Had two games that started at 9:30pm. Boy did that give the Colombians time to charge up before heading for the stadium.
  14. Agree but with showers 13 and windy forecast for Saturday a warm day final is mildly appealing ? The old must have the GF where "the most people" can see it is a bit of a furphy when the stadium is pre booked by permanent stakeholders. Anyway given the 40 year deal it's a little academic
  15. because to me the sense of place is so important to history
  16. Definitely ....that place has had more name changes than I have had hot dinners To me it has always been Docklands but I'm tending toward Iceberg Stadium after going there a few times this year
  17. Realistically there really isn't much at Casey to look forward to but at least one can say with Petty that he has not ruled himself out yet. The one caveat I would add is that VFL standard is so far removed from AFL standard for so many reasons it is not possible to say that one leads to the other or vice versa. For instance Brayshaw played well at VFL standard early in 2018 and then absolutely starred at AFL level. Why I'm not sure but to my simple mind he seemed to find more space and he had team mates who were capable of delivering the ball to him by hand and foot in that space.
  18. 50k is just right as it creates artificial demand... as much if not more can be made from such a stadium. You have to remember that Perth Park (Optus) is not owned by WCE or the AFL. Took a long time for the stadium deal to be done. I would love to know the final details. As an aside the stadium owners have refused to allow the two goal ends to be named after football players as they want to play down the AFL side of things and promote it as a multi use stadium. Brings back memories of the guy who ran Docklands when it first opened who said we would have to get used to anew way of going to the football. Lasted about six weeks if I recall.
  19. yeah so much agree which is worse.... Zooom or Woof Woof and they go on The MCG is a difficult ground for atmosphere as even a crowd of 40k is almost lost. Better than 20k at Docklands which is so cold and dark because of the roof closure policy.
  20. Frankly I'm getting a little tired of suffering premiership envy at this time of year. I had my worst case when the Bulldogs won. Hard to confess that perversely I wanted them to lose. My favourite second team is GWS for the simple reason that their wins mean nothing. Do I care this weekend... probably not... Even if they lose Collingwood will be up and about how well they did this year and will be unbearable next year. West Coast... used to like them but after the drug revelations they have gone down in my eyes. May just follow the Storm and hope Slater beats the rap
  21. But Carlton has the final say of course
  22. Big believer in not promoting the brand name on these ovals. Does anyone know if the new Perth stadium has a common name a la Kardinia Park etc Would be interested to hear comments about the raised ground viewing area and the fence. The high fence is certainly a worrying look on TV. Thanks
  23. Not sure we really had one.
  24. After a very lacklustre first half of the year JKH has won me over in the last six or so weeks. Year with a structured option for a second would be a good outcome. Bugg has been disappointing I will admit.
