  1. Hawks now three relatively easy misses
  2. Slight Wind is our way this quarter
  3. Not exactly getting the rub of the green with the umpires
  4. Grrrrr Had to walk around the police horse poo. Is that an omen
  5. Is it a Hawks home game....why is there advertising etc running constantly
  6. As I understand it finals revenue goes in the main to the AFL. The participating clubs are paid to reflect their additional expenses (four more games) but it is nothing spectacular. For example the prize money for the Bulldogs in 2016 was $1M. Not much when you consider clubs asked for more to play one game in China. There has been talk of making the prize money for finals substantial but it's all tied up in the equalization discussions. An article in the herald sun which I could not access speaks of the AFL making $19M from last years GF. For years the prize money for the NAB cup was equal if not higher than that awarded to the premiership team. "Prize money is awarded to the victorious club. However the amount is probably not reflective of the magnitude of participating in the event. It is often assumed simply that the winner of the premiership typically experiences an increase in revenue through increases in membership and merchandise sales. The current cash prize for the winning club is A$1 million. Before 2006, a cash prize to the winning club of A$200,000 was awarded (In contrast, the winner of the NAB Cup, the far less important pre-season competition which was held from 1998 to 2013, was awarded a similar amount, A$210,000). Following the Sydney Swans premiership in 2005, many clubs publicly questioned the prize money,[11] which had not increased significantly for many years and barely covered the cost of participation in the finals series." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFL_Grand_Final#Prize_money PS: Apparently the NRL is even worse when it comes to prize money
  7. amazing what predictive text can do ?
  8. Better overall team than the Bulldogs ... yes... but they had a glorious month... we may not. Richmond...last year... probably a bit below... Their last 5-6 weeks of the home and away season was seriously impressive which mean they finished top 4... we did not. On the other hand Richmond are probably above us by around the same margin that Adelaide were better than Richmond last year. Who knows what the next three weeks will bring. I am expecting a win tonight but after that ?????
  9. yeah ... I know that but it was on a hovercraft chasis so they could do simulated wheelies in the middle of the ground
  10. Mind you angry Anderson in the hovercraft was memorable .... Saw it in person at the one GF played at Waverley
  11. best quarter I have ever seen played by an MFC player ?
  12. Must admit the whole idea of arena entertainment in a sporting context (as distinct from the arena being set up for the entertainment) seems to me to be a failure. Given that it's designed for television... why bother
  13. would love for him him to deliver a Trapper Johnstone like quarter tonight a la vs Adelaide but with a different end result of course
  14. I was there for that game as a youngster.. cannot remember it being a wet day which kind of underscores what a permanent quagmire made up the centre square or as it was called... the cricket pitch area.
  15. nearly right I suspect ... more likely a stand off over dollars and the compromise being sign up now for two years at $X and then go for $X plus after two years.
  16. membership type
  17. yep... received last night... all self explanatory: it is an AFL requirement that the six remaining clubs be notified at this time (isn't that a nice feeling). It allocates you a priority 1, 2 or 3 and you need to register on Wednesday next if we win on Friday night. Different times for each priority. Then IF we win the prelim the process allocates the tickets by ballot if necesary It's a bit wordy but relatively simple.
  18. Can anyone forget being in the rooms listening to Northey addressing the players before a game. Amazing to think how easy it was to access the rooms in those days. And of course our rooms were painted red and blue. Not the antiseptic white one sees on the TV's these days.
  19. know how you feel... I usually sit level 2A during the season and feel crowded if there is anyone within 4 rows of me !!
  20. that second quarter was one of the best I have seen the team play all season. For it to result in six behinds in no way did it justice. The third quarter was pretty good as well. Watching the replay the game reminded me of the one in Alice Springs against Adelaide except of course we were not hitting the score board.
  21. AFL members showing level 4 front with ability to buy two guest passes. At this time last week it was only showing level 4 rear.
  22. Out of interest I came across this extract on the AFL site re how they allocate GF tickets for 2018: TICKET ALLOCATION The capacity of the MCG will be approximately 100,000 on Grand Final Day. In answer to guidelines (a), (b) an (c) the AFL proposes that tickets to the 2018 AFL Grand Final be allocated in approximately the following manner: 1.Competing Club Members16000-40,000 2.AFL Clubs (18) 0-7,000 3.MCC Reserve16,000-26,000 4.AFL Members13,000-23,000 5.AFL/Medallion Club Members 3,000-5,000 6.AFL Entitlements/Contractual Obligations 5,000-30,000 7. Competing Clubs 0-5,000. Total 100,000 Approx However we note that: (a)the configuration of the ground may change which could affect the split of tickets between AFL Members, MCC Reserve and Competing Club Members; (b)the number of standing room tickets to be made available will vary depending upon a variety of issues; (c)if at any time the AFL deems it appropriate to sell tickets to the general public they may do so at anytime;and (d)there will be a substantial number of “walk ups” (50%) in the MCC Reserve.
  23. Our one weakness is the same as Richmond's... three to four key players that provide the engine... injury to two of them and the truck will splutter. Tom Mac could have won us the game off his own boot in that first half last week... 1:3 and one that did not quite reach and was credited as rushed. There is no doubt that Hawthorn will crowd our forward 50 and deny us space. On the other hand we will get plenty of opportunities. Looking forward to a decent win but have the usual nerves. Go Dees
  24. now predicted to be a top of 15 and rain... grrr Melbourne area Cloudy. Very high (90%) chance of showers, most likely in the morning and afternoon.
