  1. Hannan has a fitness test on Sunday IIRC PS... sorry as Beetle points out below it's Melksham
  2. Balic had a bright start to the season and while he has played okay for the last few weeks his game seems to have plateaued. He needs to move it up a notch to give himself real chance. Looking forward to dominant second half of the season from him.
  3. strange ...until the last week or so Oskar has been marginally ahead of Petty. They will certainly get a chance... maybe not this season ... wonderful if we have time to get that extra development into them.
  4. Perhaps time for Keilty to go forward... Without Pedersen and Smith the forward line lacks the usual strength. The next few weeks are very important to Weideman
  5. A preview of Monday perhaps.... dominating everywhere but the scoreboard...hope not. Nothing hurts me more than a Magpie comeback
  6. amazed that the old ABC outside broadcast unit is still in operation. Must cost a bit to keep it up to date. A few fixed cameras at VFL grounds would be the perfect way to trial streaming. It's not as though anyone is trying to protect the digital rights etc of the product.
  7. The hard press makes his run and carry game very hard to execute especially when he tries it from the last line. I think you are right in the sense that they need to experiment a little with him at VFL level to see if there is a better position that suits his skills. Sadly otherwise he is almost going backwards as the likes of Oskar and HP pass him by..
  8. Should be a few more goals ahead given the forward 50 dominance...playing well at present
  9. Good point AF but 5G requires spectrum (government auction) and distribution networks (towers, mini towers etc). Big investment. Can't see too many corporations save for Telstra stumping up the cash. Optus owned by the Singapore Govt wealth fund could do it. Either way they'll be forced to onsell access to other participants as they do now at a government approved price. Interesting because I think Telstra is well and truly setting itself up to kill the NBN by its use of 5G. What's to stop them rolling out 5G to the main metro areas and leaving the less lucrative areas to the NBN. Not a bad outcome considering the price NBN paid Telstra for its copper network. Surprising that there has not been more business analysis of the various scenarios as they are fundamental to the internet of things that we keep hearing about.
  10. 4 goals (3 to Richmond and one to Port) in the second half. Guess they didn't get the Chanel 7 memo
  11. Strange game... a one quarter burst by Port and not much else
  12. The attempts to lure in punters by changing the odds are amazing. Tigers only 16 points down late in second quarter and they are out to $5 PS.. and one more goal to Port takes them out to $6:50
  13. Thanks... In Athens now and off to Moscow tomorrow ?
  14. I realise that Dustin Martin is out but who else is out to cause Richmond to be $2 plus underdogs. Pardon my ignorance but I've been travelling thanks
  15. But we won't so analysing the pros and cons of who we want to win is a valid exercise. On the assumption that Tigers are a definite top 4 which is widely agreed a Port loss is our best outcome as it gives us just that extra little buffer in making the 8..
  16. agree ... I had posted to point that out and then noticed the question marks on the posts above... totally confused me at first. As one can't delete anymore I went for ??? Cannot see him getting the nod.... his time will come I am sure as will Oskar Baker's
  17. Of course the strange thing is that the old fashioned kick to a player in space is not a great TV game either due to current camera angles etc. Channel 7's definition of a good game is akin to basketball ...lots of scoring and a close game usually decided in the last couple of minutes..... What a yawn. Let's see the TV stations play with some more angles and different commentary styles.
  18. Accepted but other than trading Kent for a "give away draft choice" at say 60 plus I cannot see any of the other scenarios playing out. Must admit the seemingly constant rookie listing changes have somewhat lost me.
  19. Hear what you say but I am firmly convinced that Smith when playing well provides a better balanced team in that he can do more on the ground than Pedersen and Weideman while still providing a marking target and relief ruck. Pedersen deserves a go but I have been really impressed by what Smith brings to the table. Our forward dynamics on Monday will be very interesting to watch.
  20. We are required to delist a minimum of three players at years end as I understand it. JKH is probably one. One of the two in this thread has to be in the mix.. if not who else? Maynard ?? McKenna? DJ ? Nothing wrong with discussing who is on the fringe as it makes watching their performances in the VFL more interesting.
  21. Interesting that Goodwin has now confirmed that Tim Smith has been dropped on form.... While Smith had been battling a neck complaint and also had a sore ankle, Goodwin said the competition for spots meant a change needed to be made. "It's probably form," he said. "We felt last week that he lacked a bit of impact, but we've also seen what he can produce as well. It's really competitive for spots. We've got some guys at VFL level who are really pressing for selection and that's a great thing for our footy club." https://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-06-08/dees-set-to-unleash-teen-against-pies
  22. It will get worse, Foxtel at present pays the lions share of the TV rights money but gets the lesser games on an exclusive basis. If they want to increase their ailing market they will pressure the FTA co-bidder for more exclusivity on the bigger games. NBN for all its faults will eventually settle down and 5G which comes at the end of the year has speeds most of us could only dream about.
  23. And on a somewhat related note::: The so-called “big six” Premier League clubs have won their persistent battle to be paid a greater share of the income from the league’s burgeoning international TV rights, which have for 26 years been shared equally between all the league’s clubs. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jun/07/premier-league-big-six-win-battle-overseas-television-rights A closer read of the above article will reveal that it is not as simple as my quoted paragraph but it's a worrying trend. Perhaps more worrying is this comment from the same article: The change has been agreed at a time of more generally advancing financial ambitions of the major European clubs. Andrea Agnelli, the chairman of Juventus and the European Club Association, told the Guardian in a recent interview that he wanted to “reshape” European football by having more lucrative matches played in the Champions League from 2024. The Fifa president, Gianni Infantino, also recently proposed a new 24-team format for the Club World Cup, featuring Europe’s biggest clubs, which would deliver $3bn for each four-yearly tournament. That proposal has been shelved. And I thought following the A League was hard enough ?
