Future of the NT
If we are to continue with this sub standard agreement we must determine the criteria. When we play Who we play The week after we play Darwin for example could be played as the opening game of the season on a Wednesday night followed by a 9/10 day break. Alice is a little easier but it should be played on the weekend of the indigenous round as a "national celebration". Ideally at night for TV audiences. As to whom we play I am realistic but I would like to see it rotated through the interstate teams including Queensland. The benefits of such an arrangement should be obvious. Finally I would like to see some more linkage with Melbourne based MFC supporters. Ideally it would become an aspirational destination for supporters.

Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti
Perhaps we could trade him for Lewis... Our trade team are some of the best around and Essendon aren't that good at it so I hear.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KYSAIAH KROPINYERI PICKETT
makes you wonder why we have 4 of them on the list.. which is what I was saying about having a lot of smalls at Casey. So on that basis it's a pass. IIRC JKH was originally touted as a small forward and that went nowhere after his early injury.

Liam Jurrah 2019
In Melbourne's dark day's he was worth 10k more attendees at the gate just to see him play. I can recall the opposition gingerly looking over their shoulder trying to work out where he would run and fly from. He had serious flaws both on and off the field but he certainly had a dose of magic.

Casey Fields ground issues.
The surface is a structural drainage issue which needs to be fixed. Not sure why but it is far worse this year. Would be good if the club had got in front of the story and mentioned that it would be resurfaced at the end of the season if this is to be the case. I assume the ground management is at the expense of Casey Council https://turfmate.com.au/casey-fields/ looks like we need to talk to Danny... "Danny Edmunds is the team leader of Parks and Services at the City of Casey. Casey Fields is the City of Casey’s number one venue. As well as local sports clubs as tenants they have the Melbourne Football Club, the Casey Scorpions and the Casey South Melbourne District Cricket Club."

Casey Fields ground issues.
I did raise in the Casey game day thread the surface issue. Going to VFL games you get to walk on lots of ovals and even before the rain of the last month the Casey ground was soft. Coburg was a bog in the centre but the rest of the ground was reasonable. On Saturday you literally sank into many parts of the ground that you would not expect be so deep. The wind was an issue on Saturday and the game was a crapshoot but in the main the wind is not too bad and is certainly better on average than say Williamstown and Avalon (Werribee). The tree planting leaves a lot to be desired. It's not heavy and the trees that are there are only around 15-20 feet at most

Roos + Lyon - On The Couch
Gawn was a product of Roos...Goodwin reaped the benefits... the improvement I am speaking of is measured by taking a player like Stretch Wagners or JKH and turning them into a regular 22 In my opening post on this aspect I mentioned Harmes as a good example and Frost is another.
-
Roos + Lyon - On The Couch
Hunt ...you are kidding me I suppose yes if you compare him to his VFL level of 2018..not exactly a high bar Fritsch had a natural talent that has not been improved Petracca... with his natural skill level can you call it an improvement I'll give you Frost.. has been a find
-
Roos + Lyon - On The Couch
2 of the four you have listed have gone nowhere in 2019. Oliver.. improved... some would argue we are not developing a once in a decade talent. I'll give you Frost and to a lesser extent Hore... he was a draft pick that went well... well done
-
Roos + Lyon - On The Couch
an interesting take on this topic would be to ask if any player has genuinely improved under Goodwin's coaching? Harmes.. yes and maybe Brayshaw (the potential was already there perhaps) and Salem but hard to think of too many others.
-
Roos + Lyon - On The Couch
The drums are starting to beat. We all thought this was an aberration and that post bye we would start to show recovery looking forward to 2020. Post bye has merely repeated pre bye. To bemoan no forwards when the forwards weren't kicking 5 goals a match between them is merely another excuse. Goodwin's tenure is unravelling quickly.

CHANGES: Rd 19 vs St. Kilda
Have a look at our clearance rate... Gawn is underutilized as a permanent ruck. Preuss won the hitouts as well on Sunday. The role of the ruckman has been in steady decline for years due to better play by opposing midfields.
-
Pruess...VFL is his spot
No but I think he's underutilised as a permanent ruck... our clearance stats have never been stunning despite him winning the hit outs on most occasions.
-
CHANGES: Rd 19 vs St. Kilda
Gawn is a better forward than Smith and Preuss. Preuss will dominate the ruck easily. You don't need a mobile ruckman every week. Just ask Richmond and Essendon who are doing fine with a lesser ruckman. Weideman perhaps but he hasn't shown anything much
-
CHANGES: Rd 19 vs St. Kilda
Smith is not the future ... we know exactly what he can deliver. Preuss to play 60-70% time as ruck with Gawn playing forward of the wing.
-
Pruess...VFL is his spot
Have said it a few times.. Preuss is number 1 ruck with Gawn playing havoc as a roving forward. ( I know he has to kick straight.) Not every week but in the right conditions.. interstate heat etc it's worth a try. The actual ruck role is massively overstated these days.. Preuss does that fine

Jordan Lewis is NOT cooked, give him 1 more season.
the delist list is a long one if you include the injury prone players such as AVB the Smiths Stretch etc. Keeping Lewis would not be a good idea but it shows how desperate we are

liked goals 3 and 6 and the mark would need to know a little more. We do have a number of small players at Casey already

GAMEDAY: Rd 18 vs West Coast Eagles
reminds me of those 100 metre heats when the big boys just put on the gas when they need to and then ease back
-
GAMEDAY: Rd 18 vs West Coast Eagles
3 goals to 1 behind business as usual for the final quarter 30 point loss coming up Reminds me of Melbourne of the 70's
-
GAMEDAY: Rd 18 vs West Coast Eagles
ratio of scoring shots to inside 50's is surprisingly high for us. Pity we can't hit the side of a barn door.
-
GAMEDAY: Rd 18 vs West Coast Eagles
these were the stats for the prelim thumping.. boy that gameplan was badly undone MFC is the left hand column... won every stat what will we see today Stats 365 Disposals 353 40 Clearances 40 58 Inside 50 49 152 Contested Possessions 137 61 Tackles 60 47 Hit-Outs 39 19 Free Kicks 19

GAMEDAY: Rd 18 vs West Coast Eagles
Remember in recent seasons when we used to discuss which Melbourne team would turn up. Hard to fathom that by comparison those were the good times.

From Prelim To Wooden Spoon?
the two wins against fellow cellar dwellers were by less than a goal and achieved literally in the last minute. We definitely are playing like a bottom side.
