  1. So in the context of this discussion what would you do with Sparrow, Jetta and Melksham re the remainder of the season. Personally I would probably rest the lot of them in prep for 2020. These are the latest injury reports for each player: Neville Jetta | Knee – 4 weeks “Neville’s going really well. He’s started agility work at training, and he’s done some fast running, so we’ll look to fast-track him a little bit.” Jake Melksham | Foot – 4-6 weeks “It’s pretty slow progress for Jake. He’s now out of the boot but his foot is still very stiff, so he’s probably got to wait another week before he starts running. He’s going to be a little bit longer rather than shorter.” Tom Sparrow | Knee – 6-8 weeks “He’s pulled up really well from surgery and he’ll start running next week, so our aim is definitely to get him back playing before the end of the year.”
  2. yes but he also made a famous quote about it's location
  3. Finishing this season at Blundstone arena is somewhat fitting. The southern most AFL ground in the world.. what was it that Paul Keating called Australia ?
  4. not disgraced... kicked a good goal and was prominent around the many packs. Sat near the dugout for a quarter or two and it was almost comical listening to the players trying to run the interchanges without a runner. Lots of name screaming.. it was like old fashioned tag. PS: just noticed he had 27 possessions but like Lewis' possessions they were not memorably damaging. (Not to say that Lewis did not have a good game but other than once when he took a courageous mark that in the end was called out of bound the possessions were mainly of a link up nature. At one stage I noticed him in at a centre bounce which I thought strange.)
  5. Hard to get a handle on VFL form as the game was so congested and scrappy. Preuss dominated with pack marks in the first half but went out of the game from a marking viewpoint in the second half. The number of behinds suggest we dominated but I never got that feeling. More it was one of comfortable superiority with Coburg nipping at our heels. Spargo tried but couldn't break free. Much the same with JKH and KK. The day can best be described as hard ball get... handball to nearby player who gets caught trying to break free. Sorry it was just too cold to try the local Coburg brew but the coffee barrista was doing a roaring trade.
  6. Basement near the Yarra..... bring a very deep cheque book... it is deep silt that has almost no bedrock around there. If we must stay in town what about sharing with Port Melbourne... may help the socio economic case that one needs to build assuming there is some available land. Out at Coburg today and they are busy re-developing... "In 2018, following the efforts of the Coburg Football Club, the State Government of Victoria along with the City of Moreland announced a joint $6million investment into the redevelopment of the oval's grandstand and changerooms, set to commence in 2020 with further funding to be announced by both the Australian Football League and Cricket Australia. Once completed, the venue will once again be a modern and Female friendly football and cricket facility. " https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coburg_City_Oval I am now firmly in favour of Casey as it it can realistically deliver within three to five years all our needs. We have just wasted over two years on the pie in the sky Yarra Park plan unless it was a very sophisticated and cunning ambit claim.
  7. Preuss relatively quiet in the second half. Goal to Casey. 65-38
  8. And there's the 24 hours convenience score 7:11
  9. And another to Coburg after a rugby style bit of play afew metres out 52-30 7:10-5 straight
  10. The centre mud patch takes away from the chance of corridor play. Goal to Coburg 46-24
  11. Two forward forays by Casey for two behinds. Could easily have been two goals
  12. Some great Celtic music over the ground speakers at half time. Makes a change from the ads at the mcg Much better second half of that quarter from Casey
  13. Bradtke showing a little at this level. Very pleasing And two nice goals to Casey to finish the quarter 44-18
  14. Yes but none on the sideline. The toilets require a cross country trip through the mud. Worse... the sausages at the sausage sizzle were burnt.
  15. Coburg ground undergoing big redevelopment unfortunately
  16. Very cold here but luckily no wind. Scrappy game. Ok As they say these days.,no connection
  17. Lewis is a good example of a known factor in the salary cap spreadsheet. His salary will be well and truly marked for elsewhere. Where it becomes difficult is dealing with the outliers which Frost could become. Brayshaw was a perfect example of such a player who went from a struggling possible trade/delist to a match winner in the space of 10-15 games and quite properly commanded a large but comparatively unexpected rise. Tom Mac Donald was not too dissimilar. That is what I meant by saying we are not having much luck with our contract renewal windows. Anyway it's a good problem to have.
  18. Fair enough.. averages are skewed by the highs and lows whereas a median is the figure around which the greatest number of players are based. The best figure would probably be median of players in the same game range. I take the salary cap stories with a grain of salt. Every club has to pay a very high percentage of the salary cap so there is never that much room. It's more about front and back loading. In theory we should have been front loading the plus 25 years of age players in anticipation of needing room to pay the emerging stars.. which please please we have. My comment re Garlett was that if unplanned money needs to be found that is a source. The money men would have factored in a reasonable renewal salary for Jeffy. The other unknown in the salary cap component is where Jones fits in for 2020.
  19. we don't have much luck when it comes to the signing window... the spreadsheet boys would have had him in at base plus say $100-150k giving around $250k at most. Another three or four decent games and you can probably add another $100k per annum. Ironically it could seal Garlett's fate.
  20. Has to be a worry... other than Melksham that is arguably our best forward set up. Imagine if we had our usual inaccuracy. Hopefully we see more structure next week. Here's an example of unstructured play.. Gawn has a shot for goal and decides to put it fifteen metres out. Pack flies and knocks it to the 25 metre line where Docker player grabs it and they're off. Surely Gawn has a pre determined signal to team mates telling them what he is going to do and the crumbers know where they should run to??
  21. Hope this fog lifts for the early start. Casey radio showing coverage of the VFL game between Werribee and Williamstown... strange..
  22. May as well continue with Petty and see if he can make it. His trajectory certainly flattened after his call up last year. Worth noting that Baker had not been starring at vfl level but is now showing early promise at AFL level.
  23. Thought Hunt had a reasonable.not great game... pressured well and was one of few forwards who continually presented. The forward structure was woeful. Those two second quarter goals were almost painful to watch.
  24. I see according to the AFL stats we almost broke even on centre clearances. Strange because I can barely remember one good clearance. I raise this because we have the best or second best ruckman and Oliver who is at the top of the clearance specialists. What I saw was a lot of fumbles and good wide clearances by Freo that were then well defended by our Defence who no doubt won us the game. Great win and hopefully a good follow up next week against the Lions... Could Preuss get a game..probably not
