Gains amid the wreckage
the gains have been very small.. the wreckage on the other hand the problem is that when we thought we might get something out of the remainder of the season which would give cause for optimism in 2020 we are at best treading water if not slipping backwards. Viney seems to be finding some form which is a late season plus

CHANGES: Rd 18 vs West Coast Eagles
doesn't matter but we may as well get a game or two more into Baker and I assume Weideman will play. Said last week after watching Jetta play at Casey that he was far from ready.. who knows if he should play next week. No use playing Lewis (not his fault but he should have not been reselected once the season was done.) JKH.. why but then again why not.. give Gus a rest perhaps

POSTGAME: Rd17 vs Bulldogs
as the song says... always look on the bright side... they were nearly at full strength and beat Geelong a few weeks back whereas we had ?? out and we nearly won. Big positive in Petty and we got a game into Preuss. 2020 wise it was better than the win last week.

Round 17 Non MFC Games
Tassie looks warmer as each week passes... (and it stuffs the Hawks)
-
Round 18 - Dees v WC in Alice Springs
we all know that NT is not a strategically sound move ....sure others play in cairns, Tasmania and even Ballarat but NT makes no sense. Hell I'd prefer the stupidity of one game a year in China.. and boy that is stupid

Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti
you're right but it would be fun making an open play for him and seeing the bomber fans sweat. As I mentioned before at the very least it would play a little havoc with their salary cap.

Membership Survey
Interesting albeit dated puff piece by a mob that did some analysis on Richmond's membership https://home.id.com.au/case-studies/richmond-football-club/ "We started by mapping the location of current and past Richmond members. It showed a clear spatial pattern with membership strongest in Melbourne’s southeastern suburbs, fanning out from the club’s heartland in Richmond (the red areas on the map below). Then the demography comes in. We know that when the children of current Richmond supporters grow up and leave home, we can predict with some confidence where they will move to. In Melbourne there is a clear northwest and southeast divide. People that grew up in the southeast have a strong tendency to move further southeast to a suburb they can afford when they buy their family home. Demographers call this outward sectoral migration. You can clearly see people who live in Richmond strongholds fanning out across the east and southeastern suburbs (the yellow arrows on the map below)."

Round 18 - Dees v WC in Alice Springs
Interesting from the ticketing site... I thought we had renewed for 2-3 years at least "This year will be Melbourne’s tenth consecutive year of playing home games in the NT, and it’s with thanks to the Northern Territory Government (NTG) and AFL, who have worked hard with AFLNT and Melbourne FC to sign a one-year agreement covering 2019. Melbourne has had a strong presence in the region over the years, supporting several Northern Territory-based initiatives, such as the education of Indigenous eye health and trachoma disease." The ticketing site says you can bring an esky so the cheese board is possible !!

may as well give the Bombers a little salary cap problem by making an offer. Garlett's money is there to be used.

Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti
Would think it's a contract issue (money level and perhaps term)... Surprised that he hasn't had the pre-signing form improvement that so many MFC players experience.

Membership Survey
Must say after 40 odd years of membership I am prepared to give them next year but like many I am tiring. May I inquire as to what you mean by results.. is that a reference to the remainder of this season... cause it ain't looking pretty.

Injury List - Season 2019
I suspect they are resting him.... his form has dropped away alarmingly even at VFL level Pretty well sums up this season
-
PREGAME: Rd 17 vs Bulldogs
Look on the bright side The Bulldogs defence will have no idea which of our players gets their best defender I thought 2019 couldn't get any worse but yes it does in the sense that we are getting zero momentum for 2020.

PREGAME: Rd 17 vs Bulldogs
Maybe... Bulldogs and North pre season would have been pencilled in as definite wins but.......

CHANGES: Rd 17 vs Western Bulldogs
and it wasn't that flash a half from what I noticed... one absolute clanger of a kick and outmarked on another causing two direct goals Very rusty I thought...

Injury List - Season 2019
Tim Smith not on the injured list but reported as running with the rehab group at training yesterday. Lever and Jetta on the injured list and noted as available but they both played at VFL level last week so why are they even listed. Such wonderful communication... Stretch's foot injury is worrying. Combined with our other four perennially injured players I cannot see how he can be retained if there is any doubt whatsoever over his recovery. (It's not the first time with a foot injury.).

POSTGAME: Rd16 vs Carlton
nil desperandum OD. I'm the opposite.. I have started to demand a premiership in the next ten years and to see this decent list squandered is #%^&*ing me off. Is it too much to expect a string of decent years as experienced by Hawks, Geelong, Collingwood and even North to mention but a few... there's something about failure at this club which is becoming part of its DNA. Hell even Brisbane is rising from its ashes and they have three fantastic premierships this century. As another poster said the worst thing is that we are becoming "irrelevant."

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
you are correct .. it seems that the use of pig skin bladders as the internal part of the original rugby ball pre-dated AFL. 1860’s and 1870's - Rugby Ball and First Innovations Richard Linton and William Gilbert owned shops near Rugby School in England. By the 1850’s they were the two main suppliers of balls for the school. These early balls were made using inflated pigs' bladders inside a leather ball, and the variation in the size of the bladders meant the balls were different sizes.2 Richard Linton introduced ‘indian rubber’ inner tubes into his balls in the 1860's, and a hand pump to blow up the balls. Linton also claimed to have invented the distinctive oval shape of the ball. Unfortunately for Linton, he did not patent any of these inventions and they were widely copied. 3 William Gilbert’s business also grew. By 1877 Gilberts were producing 2,600 balls per year and were increasing the number they exported overseas to Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.4 Rubber bladders meant that the 1870’s and 1880's saw standardization in the size of the ball. In 1872 the English Football Association revised its rules, and for the first time included measurements for the ball in their rules5 In Melbourne, for the first time, Australian Rules Football rules specified the size and shape of the ball: http://boylesfootballphotos.net.au/article39-The-Same-Game-A-Different-Ball

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
More than enough for a Tasmanian team then if correct. The old chesnut that they need two teams in a local market to satisfy demand and keep up press coverage etc is so old hat. As you say.. it's a television game. The Gold Coast is the graveyard of sporting clubs as we all know anyway. Looks like GWS won't win the big one so watch out for the priority pick call from them in not too many years.......Only got 12k at the Showgrounds for what was a top of the table clash against Brisbane.. after ten years they aren't showing much growth. Strangely enough one of GWS' biggest home crowds ever was against MFC at Manuka in Round 20 2017... (I suspect that was us in our hunt for a final.)

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
send them to Tasmania... with the equivalent AFL support the team would fly with regular crowds of around 15k if not more

THE MELBOURNE WAY by George on the Outer
double that ?? very strange Is this what they call the peddling of soft power... have noticed a subtle and not so subtle attempt by occasional posters to turn this excellent forum into a fangirl/boy site. The analysis and frank criticism is what makes this site so readable. Well done Demonland
-
Injury List - Season 2019
they won't grant it because of the view of the other teams... they went through this multiple times over the last few years and the AFL's position on where any priority pick is located is now clear and its not at number 1 or 2.

According to our "never wrong" contracts thread.. signed until end of 2021
