  1. GF location will be influenced by revenues, national exposure, permitted crowds and fan satisfaction not necessarily in that order. My take is that the AFL would love it to be in Sydney. Their worry would be the backlash from the SA and WA footballing organisations (media, fans, clubs etc). Adelaide FC not being a likely participant makes it a little easier as Port carries far less influence. They won't make the decision for about six weeks. Also they will be looking for stadium deals and State kickbacks as part of the decision. Home club advantages will play no part in the decision.
  2. Have we ever won in Hobart? But at least you can watch the yachts on the Derwent when we go through our GF meltdown. PS just noticed that WA delayed phase 5 restrictions. Under Phase 5 you can fill the stadium
  3. NSW assuming no break out could go to Phase 4 which would allow 20k or thereabouts.... Also remember the bulldozing NRL will be asking for unlimited crowds In Step 4, states and territories may allow all of these large venues to admit larger crowds, provided: There is no evidence of sustained community transmission The event is seated-access only, with ticketing They maintain physical distancing Allocate seats to enable appropriate physical distance (e.g. 1.5m) between individuals or groups do not know each other. People who know each other can sit together. They must be separated from other groups or people with physical distancing (e.g. 1.5m). They put all other required public health measures in place They address and manage all public health risks
  4. Too logical for the AFL They will be seeing it as a money making activity. Need time to sell all the corporate packages. Your comment does raise where the lead up finals might be played. Hard to see Melbourne having 20k plus crowds this year.
  5. Given it won't be the MCG my fan based vote is for Adelaide or Perth. (Query over Perth being too hot if the GF is played late October.) My feeling is that the AFL will make a corporate decision and play it at the SCG. (More dollars and greater exposure in a key market.) Cannot see Brisbane figuring in the outcome.
  6. The tech whizzes say that because live sport has a high refresh rate the bandwidth required for 4k is at present untenable. It works for Netflix etc because they can buffer or similar. Hopefully they work out some new compression systems. On a positive note I have noticed that my pictures from kayo rarely if ever break up this year while last year it was a minor annoyance particularly with AFL.
  7. From the NSW Govt website In Step 3, seated and ticketed events may take place with the following crowd limits: Stadiums with a capacity of up to 40,000 people may operate at 25% seating capacity. Stadiums with a capacity of greater than 40,000 people may not have more than 10,000 people.
  8. not that I support betting companies but if you open a Bet Easy account (no money required) you can then get 3 months free Kayo. I have read of people refreshing their subs by opening a new account with a different email address Austrian formula 1 (second round) on this weekend....magnificent location
  9. are we going for a training ground in Beijing? Could be an easier get than the MCG precinct There's always a bright side...Kochie's China plans aren't looking good
  10. Metricon with four games over the weekend. Will be interesting to see how the surface holds up. 15mm predicted for Sunday and 45-60mm for Monday...lucky that wasn't Saturday and Sunday ! Cats and Pies for the first two matches
  11. Happy with the ins. The outs are slightly more questionable but having watched Tomlinson in a good team (GWS) last year I was always wondering what we would get. Hunt is the only forward dropped so I'm not sure who moves where if we play Bennell on the flank.Could it be Salem to the wing?
  12. one positive is that we don't have the "squad selection" tonight At least we can read the tea leaves on the emergency selections. I'm expecting a win by hopefully more than 20 points. A close win or a loss won't get my minuscule hopes up at all. Foxtel don't publish ratings but my guess is that this game may set a new low in the ratings.
  13. If performance is sub par at the end of the year Bartlett and Mahoney should go simply because they locked us into the contract with Goodwin.Squarely their responsibility. Pert's future should be reviewed by the new Chairman. Seems to have done little wrong but from the outside it's hard to tell if the non football side of things is working well. One assumes he has KPI's which are measured against other clubs with due regard to size and on field success. The new training ground in the MCG precinct is a Board decision which has made pursuit of that goal very difficult.
  14. Would Mozart be at full forward Interesting to note that his more famous operas were two rather than three or four acts so perhaps he was more suited as a burst player

  17. Let's put it this way....if you knew we were going to finish 17/18 in 2020 would you have done the trade? FWIW I'm ok with the trade but in typical MFC mode nothing ever quite works out to plan
  18. I suspect that is the last scratch match we will see. They weren't the best but they were better than nothing
  19. Big difference between 65 and 90. 33 players and 32 support staff sounds about right. As I understand it, clubs were allowed 50 people plus players at a game which apparently was enough to allow a few Board members (Edie everywhere springs to mind)
  20. GWS v Hawks game had a crowd. Not sure what the maximum number is. Strange thing was the broadcaster still used the canned crowd noise. GC v Dees .... probably cost too much to open the ground
  21. So AFL have been in NSW for forty years and we can't find a spare oval... Think on it
  22. My guess is that the NSW border will be closed for a minimum of two months. That assumes a month to get on top of the virus numbers and then a month of verification and political manouevering. (Early reports suggest nearly 200 cases for Melbourne today). You would have to think that if there's a risk of a break out in another State it's NSW which would complicate things. And of course there's still the Essendon catch up match to play.
  23. I always have a second team in which I take an interest. At the moment it's the Giants. Over the years it has included Collingwood, North and the Eagles. The team has to be exciting and offer a genuine premiership chance. While it doesn't help with dealing with the frustration of being an MFC supporter it enables me to maintain an interest in AFL when our season comes to an early end ...which is often
  24. Quite enjoyed the Austrian Grand Prix over the weekend. The countryside surrounding the track was jaw droppingly gorgeous. Oh to be having a strudel in Vienna
  25. It's melancholy times and following the MFC does not help. Did not expect our season to be effectively over so quickly. Was it wrong to be quietly relieved when our game against Essendon was cancelled. Like the virus there seems to be no way out until we find the magic vaccine. Quietly planning a trip to Tunisia and Pakistan for when times are normal. Whenever that might be
