34 Games- full list
More games = more money so I doubt they would go for it. The marginal cost of an additional game is not high as the salaries etc are fixed costs. There would be issues with stadiums running below break even but the power clubs would do well. They could charge more for 17 home games than the usual 10-11.

34 Games- full list
There is discussion of a 34 game season with 4-5 day breaks as the norm. The rationale is higher media revenue. It would allow the retention of the same/similar list numbers thus permitting rotations. Lot to be said for it. A few initial thoughts: MFCSS warns me that it could lead to a long season once you become irrelevant. Suspect you would need 20 wins to make the eight. Is it too much of a home advantage for teams such as the Eagles. Crows would make a fortune from 17 sellout matches and Geelong would be fine as well.

It's MCC renewal time so I expect that explains the little bump in membership

2020 Grand Final Venue
The NRL are playing every week in NSW. Country Vic never closed. Storm (based in Qld) played the Eels in Sydney last night. Believe what you will The crowds in Qld have been loss makers by the way.

2020 Grand Final Venue
well they closed their borders making it impossible for the season to continue in NSW and Vic so ...yeah "they saved the season !!"

NON MFC: Round 13
Suns can end the Blues hopes for the 8.... Go the Red and Gold As for the rest depends if we win tomorrow !!

Websites Worse than the AFL's
The ladder and fixture sections work well. Obviously they are working on changing them for next season in order to improve the user experience ?

Websites Worse than the AFL's
Perhaps we are not seeing it the way they do. The simple match score is the centre of the maze. First they want to drive us sheep into all the blind alleys that get their clicks (revenue) up.

Fixture 2020 (COVID Edition)
why do you think that wwsw. Not disagreeing but there is a distinct lack of TV product simply because TV shows are not being made. Sport should be at a premium.

Fixture 2020 (COVID Edition)
TV rights provide roughly $20M per round. Two extra prime time games (Thursday and Monday) is probably worth two to three million a week minimum from the TV companies. To make up that kind of money from crowd attendances is impossible. For years MFC has been complaining about lack of exposure. More evening games could in fact be the saviour of the lesser clubs.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
Preuss has thinned down to increase his mobility. Unfortunate that there is no VFL to test whether it has worked. The 2018/2019 version of Preuss is old school and is very difficult to reconcile with the modern game. Many commentators are pushing for 3 man up rule to come back to remove congestion. If this happens the days of the static ruckman are over.

Fixture 2020 (COVID Edition)
The every day footy is obviously a function of the times but I have no issue with weekly Monday and Thursday games with special event games on other week nights. Crowd attendance is secondary these days to what the media companies will pay. (yes I know some may complain). Game starting times and mid game breaks may need to be reviewed to ensure the games are finished before 10pm. (Perhaps this will mean the continuance of 16 minute quarters.) More evening product opens up the possibility of other media companies paying for particular slots. Example Optus could have Monday night leaving Thursday and Sunday as Foxtel nights. FTA would get Friday and Saturday. From a personal viewpoint I am still watching three games a week. One thing I do is watch on half hour delay thus allowing the Kayo 30 second FF to eliminate stoppages and breaks between goals etc.

NON MFC: Round 12
Well that's the end of the Suns... 2 points from 5 matches Interesting tactics from the Tigers...played the boundary and rarely tried to switch or go inside. Shades of a team not confident in its abilities. Key forwards and big men keeping them in it. Dusty had a quiet night. Tigers would need to improve to get to the big dance.

NON MFC: Round 12
Not sure that Suns being only half a game behind us is a great result for us. Sure it opens up overtaking Richmond but there's no difference in where a team finishes in 4-8 as at present they are all Melbourne teams.

Scratch Match vs Pies (14/8/20)
Oskar Baker exists !!! Young backman Trent Rivers enjoyed some time up the ground, impressing with his run around the ball, as did Oskar Baker whose pace shone through on the wing.

Fixture 2020 (COVID Edition)
Money.... the AFL would love a split first round of finals. Won't happen but a first week where the top 4 play and followed by the second week where the bottom four play. Week 3 losers of week 1 play winners of week 2. Everyone gets a rest and you get an extra week of big TV money. You could compress the first 3 weeks as outlined above into two weeks if you wanted to add weekday fixtures

Fixture 2020 (COVID Edition)
So... what would you bid ?? Queensland has not ruled out throwing money at the AFL to fend off other states hoping to host the grand final later this year. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she would wait for Victoria and the AFL to formally relinquish the MCG's rights to host the game before putting money on the table.... https://www.theage.com.au/politics/queensland/premier-in-behind-the-scenes-talks-to-nab-afl-grand-final-for-queensland-20200817-p55mes.html

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
First round pick for Preuss .... where do we sign !! The second ruckmen was always a dying species and with reductions in lists extinction is not far off. There are calls to allow third man up which would also spell the end. The only ruckmen that are valued are those that can play around the field and there are perhaps four or five of those at most.

THE RUN HOME 2020
Carlton have to play Brisbane in the last round. They also have the Giants and the Suns. Their other 3 games are Swans, Pies and Crows. Given they are only on five wins can't see them wining five out of 6 to get to the magical ten wins. Their % is okay but below the surrounding teams so 9 wins may not be enough. If they beat the Suns this week the Pies match in 2 weeks will be enormous. MFCSS alert if we have to beat the Bombers to get into the 8 to protect us from a win by Blues against Lions in that final round.
