  1. One can only salivate at the money involved in all that new infrastructure. Wonder if that is a multi level car park under construction
  2. Correct but in a strange way the AFL was to blame by refusing to commit to the ground until near completion. Then it went broke and the AFL drove a hard bargain. Would it have been different if the AFL specced the ground? Then again if the AFL had been an equity partner from day 1 the AFL could well have gone broke as well
  3. Strange timing from an MFC viewpoint. Friday or Saturday would have made a lot more sense for those on the AFL extended bench/fringe
  4. It would be strange not to have multiple kickers in a sponsorship deal. Finals is an easy one as it's 2-3 weeks of extra prime time exposure for the sponsor. They could also have crowd attendance targets which would not have been met in 2020/21. Would not be surprised if membership figures is not another target
  5. Certainly was a plan for the railway to go to Waverley.. They also had plans to increase the capacity of the ground to 150k https://www.urban.com.au/news/1960s-plans-for-waverley-park-expansion-south-east-melbourne-dodged-a-bullet
  6. Hadn't heard that. Considering the absurd mark up on the merchandise the over order would need to be mammoth
  7. I believe it comes with soft salary cap relief and partial funding but only available to six candidates https://www.afl.com.au/news/691432/afl-announces-womens-coach-acceleration-program The program will be co-funded by the respective Club, together with the AFL, with relevant Soft Cap exemptions in place during the two-year period. AFL Executive General Manager Football Operations Andrew Dillon said the newly developed program reinforces the AFL’s commitment to advancing women within the industry, on and off the field The AFL remains committed to creating legitimate coaching pathways for women, and through this program, we look forward to witnessing the industry’s emerging coaching talent further develop their skillset to progress to senior coaching positions at the elite AFL and AFLW level,” Mr Dillon said. “Each successful member of the program will be appointed to an assistant, line, or development coaching position within their Club’s AFL and/or AFLW program and have unfettered access to elite coaching settings and mentorship at their respective Club.
  8. why do I have to pay for a seat in the AFL reserve if they are not allowing walk ups. $9.90 per ticket plus a service fee of $3.25 Moreover they appear to be releasing tickets en bloc the old way thus forcing everyone together. The AFL Reserve will be about 60% full on the night
  9. It's just a light show... which is nice but it doesn't address the fundamentals Level 1... Not sufficient gradient in the seating Level 2/3 Inaccessible to the general fan Level 4... lower half ... okay Upper half... rubbish
  10. Don't see them as like for like. Hibberd will play round 1 based on recent form If he drops form as the season goes on not sure what will happen. Last year you would have said Hore was waiting but he's gone. Of course if you're a Smith fan then perhaps he's the replacement.
  11. No secret here The money on offer from the West plus the endorsements etc will be enormous. I'd be happy with another 2/3 years from Luke. He's on his way to being the highest player to date.
  12. Did Hannan lose it for the Dogs. He had a shot. Would have put them up by 25 points Handballed and it went nowhere... no score and then it happened
  13. Thought that the Casey ground had a few decent bare patches from watching on TV. With AFLW one wonders if they had the time to do repair work over the summer
  14. Big win by the Lions over Crows https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/lions-thrash-the-crows-show-menacing-form-on-the-eve-of-the-season-20220225-p59zqq.html
  15. it wasn't bad but unfortunately they played a lot on the far side of the ground and the camera numbers/ specs/operator were slow to zoom in. For a practice match which I expect was shot on a shoe string it was okay
  16. Yes I have watched them all. And in 2021 it was mainly at the opening bounce of a quarter Why only then.. that was my question
  17. Thought Bowey started to come good towards the end but I agree it wasn't their best performances. That being said other than Rivers errant handball in the 4th Q there were no howlers. An interesting tactic with Pickett being at the centre bounce for the start of each quarter. It got me to wondering if it was more about forward set up as he only appeared at the first bounce of each quarter.
  18. Nice little cameo by Weideman in the ruck. I think Ben Brown was the only player who crumbed a goal which to me was the only disappointing aspect. Other than that great effort. Perhaps Salem for BOG
  19. Great first half Particularly impressed by Hibberd and Sparrow is showing he is best 22. Pickett just cannot get near it other than on a few link up plays. Would have liked to see some more scoring from forward stoppage. Looking forward to seeing the Weid and Hunt in the second half.
  20. 40k would be disappointing but anything over 50k will be a bonus. This will now be a "normal" work day which just adds that extra unknown. I would love the AFL to come out with their seating policy. Last year it was pack them in and close the rest until the last few weeks before shutdown. Have they managed to reprogram that ticket selling computer so that a crowd of say 50k is nicely spaced out in a 100k stadium
  21. looks like they are loading the first years in anticipation of Rd 1 VFL which is a few weeks after the AFL season. Perhaps Melksham and Dunstan the same
  22. just checked ... you are correct. So if you work as a ticket collector at AAMI no mask but if you are selling pies must wear a mask. Of course it makes sense
  23. Closer to the latter but Oliver does not have the break away strength of Bont. His handball receives and gives over his shoulders is sublime as well as his ability to work in confined space. There's no doubt we took a little out of Dog's 2016 handball handbook into our 2021 season and boy did it work. Petracca's ability to break clear and deliver or shoot in an unhurried manner is sheer brilliance
