  1. Lot to be said for this You could throw in three byes for 6 teams at a time. They would be in consecutive weeks thus not impacting greatly on the inntegrity of the ladder TV companies would pay the same money as they would still have a 20 odd week home and away product so that's not an issue. With the extra byes more teams would have a chance of Friday night exposure Would the absence of so called blockbusters greatly impact attendance. Can't see it as the Derbies would still be played and each of the current blockbusters would also be played. Most of the confected dates could be retained given that there are probably around 5/6 melbourne blockbusters. I think the AFL have been shown with AFLW this year that more does not necessarily mean better. And it makes even more sense if you want to add Tasmania PS There's also the impact on the VFL. It's already a compromised under funded and under resourced competition. Another senior round would do nothing but add yet another bye to that comp.
  2. They certainly do. It has been the subject of much complaint by subscribers. Who even has a dvd player these days. At the very least they could sell them on a thumb drive
  3. The NFL has 8 home games per team each in a city of having populations between 2 and 10 million We have ten Melbourne teams so in a 22 round season each Melbourne team is seen in Melbourne/Geelong 18/19 times. The TV companies will like it but they won't pay more for the overall product as they are all bleeding cash. Is any game other than Anzac day a sellout? Even the preliminary finals are rarely sell outs these days. Why don't we just have a best of three/seven grand final
  4. No thanks It's nothing but a revenue grab Now if it was combined with a genuine "straight" draw I might go for it
  5. 6pm Friday at Casey against the Tigers Will be interesting to see the line up given the AFL match on the following Wednesday and the ever hanging threat of a player being excluded due to "health protocols." Will Weid, Melksham and Hunt play? Perhaps a half.
  6. In the North game and again last night we had little success in scoring from ground ball gets. Last night we failed to control entries into the forward line for most of the first half and the rebound was relentless. Perhaps a few more balls to the pocket allowing an out of bounds and a reset might have been advisable. Watching the home and away from 2021 that was often our tactic. Could it now be that with BBB we are prepared to go more direct. If so it gets you higher scores but it carries risk as we saw last night
  7. agree but we are getting well beaten in the forward half and not allowing time for our defence to set up. Goal or slow it down that is what is forward line play. Last week we barely kicked a goal from broken forward line play
  8. Fantastic move. Found my name easily at 400 zoom. Magnificent gesture by the club
  9. Well Having my name on the Premiership flag is rather special. Thanks MFC !!!!
  10. Must say that I share your concern
  11. What is the rationale given that these clubs already have "reserve" teams in their home States. Gives them 3 teams to pick from as against the other teams who only have one. Am I missing something ?
  12. Wednesday week..... 13 days away
  13. Wonder what the endorsement market would be worth to a player like Jackson in WA. What are the rules on having a guaranteed right to be traded if asked. Say... you will trade if I ask at the end of year 3 to a club of my choice in return for a draft pick in the first ten. Add that clause into a three year deal of say $550k per year and everyone's happy
  14. One can only salivate at the money involved in all that new infrastructure. Wonder if that is a multi level car park under construction
  15. Correct but in a strange way the AFL was to blame by refusing to commit to the ground until near completion. Then it went broke and the AFL drove a hard bargain. Would it have been different if the AFL specced the ground? Then again if the AFL had been an equity partner from day 1 the AFL could well have gone broke as well
  16. Strange timing from an MFC viewpoint. Friday or Saturday would have made a lot more sense for those on the AFL extended bench/fringe
  17. It would be strange not to have multiple kickers in a sponsorship deal. Finals is an easy one as it's 2-3 weeks of extra prime time exposure for the sponsor. They could also have crowd attendance targets which would not have been met in 2020/21. Would not be surprised if membership figures is not another target
  18. Certainly was a plan for the railway to go to Waverley.. They also had plans to increase the capacity of the ground to 150k https://www.urban.com.au/news/1960s-plans-for-waverley-park-expansion-south-east-melbourne-dodged-a-bullet
  19. Hadn't heard that. Considering the absurd mark up on the merchandise the over order would need to be mammoth
  20. I believe it comes with soft salary cap relief and partial funding but only available to six candidates https://www.afl.com.au/news/691432/afl-announces-womens-coach-acceleration-program The program will be co-funded by the respective Club, together with the AFL, with relevant Soft Cap exemptions in place during the two-year period. AFL Executive General Manager Football Operations Andrew Dillon said the newly developed program reinforces the AFL’s commitment to advancing women within the industry, on and off the field The AFL remains committed to creating legitimate coaching pathways for women, and through this program, we look forward to witnessing the industry’s emerging coaching talent further develop their skillset to progress to senior coaching positions at the elite AFL and AFLW level,” Mr Dillon said. “Each successful member of the program will be appointed to an assistant, line, or development coaching position within their Club’s AFL and/or AFLW program and have unfettered access to elite coaching settings and mentorship at their respective Club.
  21. why do I have to pay for a seat in the AFL reserve if they are not allowing walk ups. $9.90 per ticket plus a service fee of $3.25 Moreover they appear to be releasing tickets en bloc the old way thus forcing everyone together. The AFL Reserve will be about 60% full on the night
  22. It's just a light show... which is nice but it doesn't address the fundamentals Level 1... Not sufficient gradient in the seating Level 2/3 Inaccessible to the general fan Level 4... lower half ... okay Upper half... rubbish
  23. Don't see them as like for like. Hibberd will play round 1 based on recent form If he drops form as the season goes on not sure what will happen. Last year you would have said Hore was waiting but he's gone. Of course if you're a Smith fan then perhaps he's the replacement.
  24. No secret here The money on offer from the West plus the endorsements etc will be enormous. I'd be happy with another 2/3 years from Luke. He's on his way to being the highest player to date.
  25. Did Hannan lose it for the Dogs. He had a shot. Would have put them up by 25 points Handballed and it went nowhere... no score and then it happened
