  1. Thought that the Casey ground had a few decent bare patches from watching on TV. With AFLW one wonders if they had the time to do repair work over the summer
  2. Big win by the Lions over Crows https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/lions-thrash-the-crows-show-menacing-form-on-the-eve-of-the-season-20220225-p59zqq.html
  3. it wasn't bad but unfortunately they played a lot on the far side of the ground and the camera numbers/ specs/operator were slow to zoom in. For a practice match which I expect was shot on a shoe string it was okay
  4. Yes I have watched them all. And in 2021 it was mainly at the opening bounce of a quarter Why only then.. that was my question
  5. Thought Bowey started to come good towards the end but I agree it wasn't their best performances. That being said other than Rivers errant handball in the 4th Q there were no howlers. An interesting tactic with Pickett being at the centre bounce for the start of each quarter. It got me to wondering if it was more about forward set up as he only appeared at the first bounce of each quarter.
  6. Nice little cameo by Weideman in the ruck. I think Ben Brown was the only player who crumbed a goal which to me was the only disappointing aspect. Other than that great effort. Perhaps Salem for BOG
  7. Great first half Particularly impressed by Hibberd and Sparrow is showing he is best 22. Pickett just cannot get near it other than on a few link up plays. Would have liked to see some more scoring from forward stoppage. Looking forward to seeing the Weid and Hunt in the second half.
  8. 40k would be disappointing but anything over 50k will be a bonus. This will now be a "normal" work day which just adds that extra unknown. I would love the AFL to come out with their seating policy. Last year it was pack them in and close the rest until the last few weeks before shutdown. Have they managed to reprogram that ticket selling computer so that a crowd of say 50k is nicely spaced out in a 100k stadium
  9. looks like they are loading the first years in anticipation of Rd 1 VFL which is a few weeks after the AFL season. Perhaps Melksham and Dunstan the same
  10. just checked ... you are correct. So if you work as a ticket collector at AAMI no mask but if you are selling pies must wear a mask. Of course it makes sense
  11. Closer to the latter but Oliver does not have the break away strength of Bont. His handball receives and gives over his shoulders is sublime as well as his ability to work in confined space. There's no doubt we took a little out of Dog's 2016 handball handbook into our 2021 season and boy did it work. Petracca's ability to break clear and deliver or shoot in an unhurried manner is sheer brilliance
  12. There's an explanation somewhere which I read They said they will tailor the number and length of quarters to fit player loads. Expect better players in say first three sessions followed by fringe in next three with some players doing 4 sessions and some doing two. My guess is 15/20 minutes per session without time on. Message therefore is get there on time if you want to see the stars
  13. Interesting we play the Suns the night before on the Gold Coast 1pm start at Casey could make it tight for the emergency contingent
  14. so for Thursday it's just rock up and scan in for the jabbed weather humid and chance of a thunderstorm. Time to dust off the old deck chair A good start and finish time for avoiding the traffic
  15. You have to wonder if it's all about increasing the average spend per attendee. The seating is fine and other than increasing non male toilet facilities the essentials all seem adequate
  16. Masks required in the indoor elements of stadiums approved for over 30k people. The other news is that isolation for close contacts is being considered for general removal. Would help on the player availability issue.
  17. Reading yesterday that both at Docklands and MCG the corporate catering is done by a global catering giant. Amazing it's not a local activity but perhaps there are back room synergies. (Frozen raspberries anyone?)
  18. There are very few 100k seat stadiums in the world. They are all sub standard by comparison to the 50-60k "new" stadiums. Can you make a 100k premium standard stadium pay. I have no idea but it would be a world first Perhaps we could do it instead of the Commonwealth Games 😎
  19. I've now taken to watching 360 and on the Couch leading up to the GF. Highly enjoyable. The post GF versions of these shows were a little disappointing as they concentrated on celebrations (understandable) rather than analysis. The Perth MMM commentary with Dennis Commetti remains my favourite video soundtrack
  20. heard some discussion on radio this morning that highlights that covid will once again impact fringe players badly. It was about travelling squad sizes. Instead of taking away 22 players plus 3 emergemcies it may now require 22 players and say 9 emergencies. There goes any chance that week for match practice for the 9 emergencies. A similar issue for holding back players if the VFL team plays locally on a Saturday afternoon and your AFL match is Saturday night or Sunday. Of course if the AFL does no testing the positive numbers will drop off massively
  21. Accuracy from set shots is definitely an easy improvement area. All we need is a 10-20% improvement and we add 60 plus goals for the season. Fritsch going from 22:24 in 2020 to 59:24 is a perfect example.
  22. "The event that no one else wants." Kind of speaks for itself
  23. Docklands is an out of date stadium permanently crippled by the sale of free premium seating in the form of the Medallion Club. Wimbledon did the same thing by guaranteeing debenture holders free centre court seats many years ago. Luckily it was able to increase revenue by building extra show courts. The best thing for Docklands would be knock it down and build a modern 40-50k seat stadium but even that is compromised by the over development of the surrounding concourse
