CASEY: RD 13 vs North Melbourne VFL
Diamond_Jim replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
A lot of Casey's success pre 2023 was due to a core group of Casey listed players who provided a solid base for the AFL players. Most of them have now left. I suspect that is the case with a few AFL affiliated teams. Would you like to play football where your main task is to make AFL youngsters look good and be liable to being dropped purely based on the number of uninjured AFL players. And then there's the problem of rarely training as a team and being paid one tenth of some of your less well performing team mates. Strange competition... the VFL -
CASEY: RD 13 vs North Melbourne VFL

I'd be training him in both roles. Same with Woewodin and Brown but differing roles. Their role in this season and the next is as depth. To be a good depth player you need a few arrows in the quiver. Perhaps training as a tagger or teaching players how to break even with a tagger. On Jefferson if we dare I'd play him against the Eagles, put Petty down back and rest May. Unfortunately the Eagles game may well be the last chance saloon for the AFL side if we lose to Brisbane this weekend. -

No one really starring McAdam disappoints me as does Billings. Jefferson.. doing enough AMW.... not sure what we are trying to do with him -

A nippy forward would be handy. Where's our Chameleon ?? -

Our hit rate on these players goes a bit of a way to explaining our present woes -
watched until the end of the third quarter when I left for the airport. Checked the final score after immigration. Definitely not in a hurry to come back

Do we have a forward capable of leading. Think it was Langford with a minute or two to go.. he's clear on the wing with clear space in front and we kick to a pack 20 metres out
-
Petty wheels, evades two has space and time and bombs to Fritsch who has three North players on him. Such forward connection

Not exactly moving like a well oiled machine but.... Great quarter from Tholstrup. Oliver and Sparrow are going backwards

Agree... AFL need to come out with a clear mission statement for this competition. I suspect they have one and a successful competition in the eye of supporters doesn't rank highly on the priority list -

Harsh but fair. Casey are now playing the fast corridor game and more often than not one handball too many. The most powerful weapon these days is the 30 metre kick at a 45 degree angle to a free running player. Unfortunately because we push up so high there is rarely a player to take advantage of the counterattack -
Like the orange offsets on the Carlton jumpers. Time to drop Ampol perhaps
-
Hard to judge as he has had prolonged periods of injury. Worth two more years after this one to see if he can get his body together and improve
-
OD... on Casey form Verral has outperformed Fullarton most weeks. He really hasn't dominated in the 10 odd games at Casey. I understand that the AFL team hasn't done much but I don't see Fullarton as the answer. Tholstrup will probably get a game this week. Last year I posted on a couple of Casey threads that we lacked midfield depth. Most disagreed and we are now where we are
-
Beating North proves nothing to me unless it comes with clear evidence of improved structure. I'll consider joining the bandwagon again if we win against Brisbane and then the following week. The last 4 games have doused my interest well and truly not so much by the fact we lost (other than St Kilda) but the way we played. Watching Casey as well has re-enforced my concerns.

nah 2 points Edit.. you were right

Oh the Accuracy... or did I mean Irony

Did that but it made me lament the loss of LJ. He was an enormous part of bang bang bang

Can understand your thoughts but if we are going anywhere in 2025 one of these three needs to make a meaningful contribution. I'd also give Jefferson a game or two and return Petty down back while managing May. 2024 is a write off IMO FWIW I think we are on the right track gameplan wise but it needs work/tweaking. Chandler's position is a worry. It seems that we can't lock down anyone in that role. Cannot see a role for Spargo going forward unfortunately.

Not so much a rebuild as management of players to improve the team in 2025. I'd be playing Billings and McAdam for example to see if they give anything. Woewodin the same plus Laurie. Rivers a full time mid. Viney can have every third week off as can Gawn. This allows game time for the likes of Tholstrup Fullarton and Verral. 2024 isn't our year. Meandering along on the present course is simply draining our limited resources It won't be done of course but in some form it has merit

It's not simply that we lost. We should have won by 30 points given their outs. It was a 70 point massacre on the big stage. Nothing in the cupboard at Casey unless we want to reward NQR players. Why was Laurie selected on no more than a workmanlike VFL performance.

And their VFL forward kicks his third What can one say
