NON-MFC: Round 18
Equalisation has finally come. To me the anyone can win scenario is a little boring. The season lacks the natural ebb and flow that dominance of say five plus five teams deliver. You need some easy wins to break up the pattern. Eventually the home and away becomes a blur where luck and injuries deliver you a round 23 outcome

More like a bob each way. If we can't come home with a wet sail finishing below Hawthorn gets us that little bit higher in the draft

Getting serious on the Tamar Go Hawks

NON-MFC: Round 18
Just noticed that the Hawks v Freo game was in Launceston. A Hawks win would do us no harm

Free to Air TV Losing Money and Shedding Jobs - What does that mean for footy?
If you do the simple sums on the AFL rights alone (presently about $700M per year) Kayo needs 2 million subscribers at $30 per month for the whole 12 months. Add in another 1.5million to cover the NRL costs. (You need more to cover running costs and other content). Australia has just under 10M households. Accordingly you need a penetration rate of between 35 and 50%. That's bordering on the impossible. Sure you can have a loss leader but eventually the numbers have to stack up. (Advertising perhaps... tripling the subscription price etc) Each year the AFL heavies go to USA and get the lowdown on how the NRL maximise their revenue and bring those lessons home. Something has to give eventually. BTW... How long will Kayo agree to pay over 60% of the current deal in return for exclusivity only on the graveyard games

NON-MFC: Round 18
If you think we can go on a winning streak you want Collingwood to win by around 25 points and MFC to win by 30. That would probably see us overtake both Collingwood and Geelong

Funny you should say that as India's cricket team was sponsored by an online tutoring company. Can't recall their name but the product itself was fascinating

Good point but betting ads will go the same way as tobacco and liquor ads in the next five years. Who will pay then

Formula 1 TV is probably the best example of streamed sport . Multiple camera angles, the ability to follow individual drivers, impressive data etc Unfortunately you can't get it in Australia

Has not been a decent comp since covid. It's a glorified training run. For the non aligned clubs it makes a little more sense but I've lost interest.

Sport was viewed by FTA as cheap content. Reality shows are cheaper still. As sport increases in cost the problems are obvious for FTA. Streaming isn't the answer unless you are prepared to pay around $100 per month for your sports. Kayo is haemorraghing dollars based on what it is paying for NRL, AFL and cricket alone. Just a matter of time until they insert ads The days of loss leaders in small markets like Australia is coming to an end.

Food at the Footy
Imagine a Yarra Park with less parked cars replaced by food trucks and a beer garden. It will never happen as Yarra Park rents go to the City Council and not to the MCC. Remember the stand off at Docklands over going outside to the concourse shops. Even the Shilling a Bag peanut seller used to be evicted from the MCG

Food at the Footy
My food pinnacle was at the 1987 MCG finals. Esky filled with food from David Jones food hall (in those days excellent) and a bottle or two of French wine from Nick's in Doncaster. Now it's a peanut butter roll and a few mandarins with a plastic bottle of tap water

Adam Simpson departs West Coast
Rich clubs like the Eagles can afford the million dollar soft cap hit. I think Port would like their time again but I'm not sure they have the money to pay Hinkley out. Questions could be asked at the end of 2025 if Dimma doesn't get the Suns a finals berth. Beveridge.... who knows Quite an unsettling time in coaching land

Tried that at Casey a few weeks back (not sure if it was intentional).. Didn't work well

There are how many VFL, SANFL WAFL ruckmen out there. You merely needed to ask and most would nominate. It's not rocket science

"Very sore" Max Gawn in doubt for next Saturday vs Essendon
My comment was that he's a future part timer "ruckman" just like Fullarton and Verral. We needed a back up ruck on the list

The chickens coming home to roost is an understatement. As recently as 4-5 weeks ago in the mid season draft we had a chance to pick up a "break glass" ruckman but we went for another future part timer in Kentfield.
