NON-MFC: Round 22
My perverse interest is in a fully interstate top 4. If this happens at most there are only two finals in Melbourne (first week) and the GF. Am I being unfair

Where's Kentfield at?
the question to ask is how are we going to turn Casey into a decent development environment. For numerous reasons it has become almost dysfunctional.. often no ruck or midfield (besides White), a ground that is simply too windy with nothing done in thirty years to plant windbreaks, assuming Schache BBB Tomlinson go and Jefferson moves to AFL level zero KPP's left

Dan Houston
Fritsch, Rivers, Oliver.... Hell some are in a counter universe

Goodwin is the MAN!
Nothing we haven't discussed but depressing.... https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/the-demons-stand-at-the-gates-of-footy-hell-these-are-the-five-mistakes-that-got-them-there-20240808-p5k0ms.html The slide points to a bleak future at Melbourne. The player list is ageing and lacking depth. For all the denials, the club’s culture is questionable, as is the professionalism of a team that only three seasons ago appeared on the verge of a dynasty. Coach Simon Goodwin’s game style has become predictable and boring.

Wildcard Weekend
We kind of guessed that Wouldn't everybody be happy if Darwin was the venue !!
-
Dan Houston
Our future first could quite easily be around pick 6-8 in the last year before Tasmania enters. No thanks bottoming out for twenty odd years is something we've all seen and has nearly killed this club
-
Wildcard Weekend
Next step is best of 3 finals... Hell why not best of 7. That should give us football nearly year round
-
Wildcard Weekend
Yep How to fill the bye week and reward the higher finishing clubs with a week off PLUS .... more money !!
-
The Run Home
I'm surprised the media hasn't picked up on the likely absence of finals in Melbourne. Grand final aside it's quite possible that there will only be one

Time to go Goody?
We are paying heavily for playing one game plan for too many years. Whether it be at VFL level, against lesser opposition or for times when we were well ahead (remember those days) the refusal to experiment was simply arrogant. That it was such a boring gameplan (I called it the python technique) didn't help. Anyway Goodwin is here for the next 3 years. Time to work on our plans post Gawn and May. I would be very disappointed if we spent valuable draft picks on Houston or the like to shore up the present list in hope of extending the window.

NON-MFC: Round 21
Not to mention two interstate Prelims

CASEY: Rd 19 vs Footscray
Terrible game by so many. Slow and sloppy doesn't describe the relative failures on every line. Not sure that playing at Casey when they are in this form does anything for player development. One standout was the number of broken tackles allowing run on play by the Dogs. Time to draw a line under this annus horriblis.

CASEY: Rd 19 vs Footscray
Midfield Massacre

CASEY: Rd 19 vs Footscray
Sanders goes okay
-
CASEY: Rd 19 vs Footscray
Too slow and too much boundary play by Casey
-
CASEY: Rd 19 vs Footscray
Nice chase and smother from McAdam
-
CASEY: Rd 19 vs Footscray
Given that the VFL fixture i heavily influenced by the participating AFL clubs there are some very strange outcomes. The Brisbane fixture was weird FWIW this one makes relative sense Gives everyone the weekend off Now... what do we want from this game skill wise... Personally I'd like a good game from McAdam particularly below his knees

What was your excuse?
On a cold night with a 25-30k crowd it's a decent venue Medallion club stuff it up by taking the best seats even though they're often empty

The Run Home
Agree but I also like the sugar hit that two same year early draft picks can give to a team. Little doubt that the 2019 draft was a big contributor to our 2021 success
-
The Run Home
That would mean the Saints passing us. Unlikely but 6 or 7 is a real possibility. My guess is 8. We'll beat the Suns and the Pies (maybe)

PREGAME: Rd 21 vs Western Bulldogs
Removing Rivers from the backline (sensible move) and partially Picket from the forward line opens a spot for a swinging small (no pun intended). If AMW could fill that role he would be invaluable. Woewodin needs to show a little more. Perfect time to give him an extended AFL run. Not sure where he best fits longer term. 2025 will be his make or break year.

What was your excuse?
Season is around five games too long From an attendance viewpoint too many night games in wintry conditions Take over by TV will do this
- PREGAME: Rd 21 vs Western Bulldogs
