My understanding is that the noise is more to do with media hype and AFC playing games It wasn’t that long ago that Pickett was definitely going I’m not sure why he would want to leave a club that is a genuine chance of a cup vs a club that for the foreseeable future will be simply making up the numbers imo

Is the context of the game really that relevant? Personally I think it’s of less relevance than the skill of executing the kick For example player X kicks a goal from 2 metres out directly in front to win a GF - pretty relevant but GOTY contender nup

Agree George looked a reasonable prospect on a very small sample size Our only forward that really looked dangerous Our depth is really being tested at Casey and it’s fair to say that there were quite a few running about that are not really up the standard

He played in Q1 but didn’t notice him get a possession Best Casey player in the second was Roy George , Tholstrup a couple of nice things the rest pretty ordinary tbh Jefferson looks way out of his depth and frankly has regressed from his moderate returns of last season

Just a baby in the context of the position he is asked to play and has averaged over a goal per match so far this year not playing as a permanent forward I really think you’re being a bit hard on him - he has in spades what many have not offered before him - courage and aggression which are fantastic qualities that are very important if you’re going to succeed at this level He will only get better with more games and building his footy IQ Hawkins hasn’t kicked a goal in 4 weeks playing as a stay at home FF - so JVR is doing just fine

Good point we seem to be less concerned now about inside 50 dominance and more about trying to play offence from D50 This is ok when playing teams like the Tigers last week who had a non existent forward line It becomes far more challenging when the opposition has some weapons inside F50 - that is certainly the case in the next two games It will be very interesting to see how this new approach goes - or do we modify our method for these teams

Thought I read somewhere that he attended the Casey scratch game on the weekend - if true it isn’t really something I’d expect from a player with one foot out the door I really hope he stays as I believe he is very important to our structure in the next 4 to 5 years

I hope I’m wrong too but the club has also shown faith in players before that just haven’t made it. Its not an easy competition to break into and be successful and the position he has been recruited for is not an easy one Let’s all hope he continues to improve and evolves more in the JUH style than those the other guys I’ve mentioned. JUH can mark the ball and is learning to compete physically - his kicking is still a bit hit and miss but he clearly has a lot of upside. He is the type of player that I think the club believes Jefferson could be - fingers crossed 🤞

Jefferson was just ok and nothing more - I made the effort to actually watch that game on replay as I’d read the comments in the match day thread about him performing well His direct opponent was a very raw defender who frankly looks like he might struggle to make it Jefferson’s kicking for goal was bordering on embarrassing and he constantly kept running too close to the man on the mark (such a basic and fundamental mistake). I saw little from him in terms of intensity and physicality to give me any more than a glimmer of hope. For me he still sits in the category of talented junior that performed well at times against kids but may never transition to an AFL player We have seen this type of player before - Weed and Schache two recent examples on our list - hopefully I’m wrong but I do have serious doubts that he has what it takes
