Yep any Dee who comes good is welcome but breakout game is a bit rich. What he needs is consistent good games
-
Ok ..so as I said...no more opinions on here please.
-
I'm pleased you mention his age...so far the excuses for his non production of results run to " its all above his shoulders"...he's been playing AFL for 6 or 7 years and he's a grown up...or he hasn't had a good run in the "ones"...I don't know how many sequential games he's played ,or how many times, but I am confident there has not been a rolled gold full forward keeping him out of the 22 when he's had his chance (s)...

Fair enough..so perhaps the mods should now just ban opinions( with or without reasons) henceforth. Did you hear the story about me sitting on the balcony with a mate at a Dee's vs North match many many seasons ago? Barry Cable coaching North from the box which in those days was open and just a" lean across "from our seats. Half time ..Brian Wilson is cutting up North playing on the wing and my mate says " they should put Glendenning( I think it was) on Wilson"...so I say.."the coach is just there why don't you tell him" and so Benny did.... " What did he say? " nothing, didn't even look " A few minutes later....runner comes out and moves Gelendenning onto Wilson who hardly gets another kick..North come back and win!! Game over..Benny leans across as coach descends.. " good move with Glenndenning" " what did he say?" " nothing ,completely ignored me" Benny dined out on that story whenever I was there to verify it On Ology GSmith could remember the game and the 2nd half North comeback. I am confident Goodwin in general knows far better than me, but you haven't yet given one reason why he does on this occasion and further to that you might have noted that I at least suggested the possibility that the coaching group may well be correct. Anything else I can clarify for you. I actuly used to think Weideman could be an asset myself
-
Well ,when Weideman is finishing up (at whichever club it is) I wonder if he will have had almost AA full back year,( half year pre injury) a 50 goals with very few behinds tall forward year... to go with strong stand in the middle of the pack ,genuinely clunking, marks and elite running efforts and competent forward line pre Gawn rucking skills. Injuries and the burden of a mostly crepe team has been Tom's game...apparently Weideman's only failing is above his shoulders and not being gifted enough games. Anyway Goody was correct about Spargo and I was mistaken,so it's possible but not certain that he will get Weideman out of his current depth/ "potential " ranking. The one thing that is " certain" is that Tom won't have said pre season that he was ready and determined to step up and be the main goal kicker like Weideman did about 3 years ago.! Still waiting mate. Tom has been a soldier rather than a marginal list clogger
-
I think you have missed my other contributions on these two. Tom( past and present) is twice the value of Weideman and imo likely twice what Weideman ever will be. But he's a confidence player ( it's written all over his face) and for every success in the last few years there is a dropped mark,a kick into the man on the mark and a missed goal when a few years back he NEVER missed and could run up and down the ground all day. Injury and inconsistency don't play well with lack of confidence.OMac had similar issues. I hope Tom gets back in until Van Rooyen is ready to replace him but I doubt it, so ( imo) we are lumbered with Weideman's promising leads and nice kicking but rarely catching it in a pack, ,chasing or applying pressure Sigh.. Goody may well prove me wrong of course and I don't dispute that Tom has plenty of games to make his case
-
Weideman is hardly "clunking "..he hasn't done that since the 3(?) In the finals 2018( ?) ...so long ago I forget the detail. Tom is an old man in this team and probably plays a bit lost .
-
Tom has been on the edge of his end for some time now; a lot of his team stuff and contest actually seems to happen when he fails at what he is trying to do. Weideman can certainly get to that level ; actually you'd think after being in the system for 6 years he'd be there now. But he isn't and there is no sign he'll ever be Tom at his best. When I see his name at CHF.I think......." Wayne Carey...not"!! All this talk about Weideman's " head"...that's Tom's issue as well ( other than the fact he can no longer run the opposition into the ground which Weideman will never do) and I figure he's pretty much cooked. But I am happy he got a flag , even with the junk time goal after the siren...which probably hurt a bit.
-
And neither should he be given that at least two of his kicks into the forward hot spot were directed straight to Weid. I think he dropped them both.

It was worth reading those facts just to see that someone actually knows the meaning of hoi polloi! ( smile)

Did you miss my point about definitions being the point.? Did you miss the point about cliches offering nothing to intelligent discourse? Are you aware the population of Melbourne and Singapore are about the same? Thought so ...ok try this. I agree that Covid common sense,Easter holidays and crepe opposition would affect supporter numbers. But try this as well...After the G/F I was having a drink with Tom Dixon,Dickos son, in from Singapore and we were talking Covid with he and Brin ,Dickos daughter out from America where their whole family and every Mexican worker on their farm had had Covid and the management factors were overwhelming them. Now Tom from Singapore.." yep more or less open..for 2 years no more than 8 people can congregate outside and masks are compulsory even alone. There are Covid marshals in the street everywhere and an automatic fine if you are caught. It's a dob in culture ,I have had people ring a marshal to report me.Its common. Oh.. and no more than 2 people per table in restaurants .If I go with my wife and daughters we need to sit at 2 separated tables. It's really stressful...Melbourne seems so relaxed....Dicko sang the song he was pumped" So rather than believe journos making up headlines please try and consider useful facts. It's just not that difficult

Firstly Melbourne wasn't the most locked down city in the world for a starter. It depends on definitions ..try Singapore or take a look at the on and off chaos of the UK. I have a regular English customer back to our fine shores last week amazed that " no one wears masks here...you go to sport with 30,000 strangers and take no precautions! How did you do so well the last two years? "Well, intelligent policy ,best efforts to respond to an ongoing issue that no one fully understands yet I guess. I also went to Tonka in the city with a meal during the six months virtually restrictions free we had after the first level 4 orders with an Aussie friend out from New York to see her aging parents( you know when no one could come and go...bullsh!) Her first words when the waiter came up were..."how can you be open ? Why is no one wearing masks ? You can't do this in New York!" Answer..we had a policy in place and currently there are no covid cases in Victoria. If you want to run with cliches stick to Essendrug or Richmond car thieves. I was surprised by the attendance numbers as well. The 3rd quarter alo e would have been worth seeing live

Redleg...too easily pleased
-
MacDonald still putting in Weideman no authority present MFC tuning up nicely
-
Especially Weideman
-
Now just to get replacements for Weideman AND macDonald
-
I think it was actually a wry dig at Lever whose " job" that usually is
-
Some truth in that but then Weid has only played about 3 good games in 6 years. Btw the last one wasn't actually that good and I bet Sparrow is pleased it was TMac not Weid on the goal line in the G/F... Both Kossi and TMac do things each game that Weideman can't even dream about
-
My take is that Rogan is about as useful to considered community opinion as is a quasi anorexic footballers wife with chiselled jaw ,botox lips painted eyebrows and inflated self worth labelling herself a " social influencer".
-
That was LJ,but there arnt many of those around .( smile) LJ just "swayed" through the packs and flew to catch the sunlight in his hands like a Mick Taylor solo
-
It is also said that the attitude that causes grief (aka suffering) is the mind in the sway of the " 8 worldly winds"...seeing choices in terms of wishing or avoidance. Goody might suggest that he makes calm analysis his go to analysis( smile)

Assuming BBB is in then I'm for Tom although it still could go either way I guess. But the thing is that I see Weid and MFC like I see Ronnie Wood and The Rolling Stones!... Weid and Ron are good and both have certain skills to bring. For mine Ron was a fill in session muso when Keef was unreliable and Mick Taylor didn't fit. Now he's a "Stone" albeit creepy weird and a shizen artist. Weid is a fill in forward whose quirks are he that doesn't contest on the ground and flies beautifully on a lead then drops the mark! He can pinch hit in the ruck as well. Any band Ronnie plays with is lesser for it but we forget Taylor and Brian Jones and accept them as picked. If Weid becomes a "Dee" we will forget how that forward line could look if LJ or even Watts had found their place in the 22. It's not as if Weid hasn't been in the rehearsal room for long enough now to show his chops , but at least he's not creepy weird. Tom stays for the time being anyway, though he looks a little personally uncomfortable at times.
-
One of them has to keep the seat warm for Van Rooyan.... Neither of them are exciting me though. If Tom could run like he used to and didn't give away mindless 50 metres .. or If Weid could hold a contested mark.. First world problems at this end of the season really
-
BBB had a record of success to point to A couple of marks in a final 4 years ago is not much for Weid to pump himself up like he did pre season pre Covid pre signing renewal
-
Kossie might benefit from dropping weight ( perhaps muscle)
