I like the cheeky chip at Geelong: Don't all the players go there!

Post Trade Week A lot to unpack there. Some contract info still to come and those players are in the boxes shaded 'orange'. I think we will lose Baker as we are getting tight for senior spots. Based on the current mix we have one spot left unless we go in with more senior players next year. Updated for the departure of Sam Weideman and the arrival of Grundy, Schache and Hunter. I've included the Draft picks for 2022/23. We have a very nice little pot to play with: 13, 37. Freo F1, F2 and our own F1, F2. Amazing to get the calibre of players we have for late draft picks and the loss of loyal servants who deserve to chase opportunities elsewhere: Bedford, Hunt and Weideman. And of course there is the wantaway ruckman! On balance we have greatly improved our list.

The Dunkley trade: Brisbane receives Josh Dunkley, a future third-round selection and a future fourth-round selection (tied to Melbourne) Western Bulldogs receive a second-round pick (currently No.21), a future first-round selection, a future second-round selection and a future fourth-round selection (tied to Geelong) Thought the F4 swap interesting. One tied to Geelong, one tied to us. It will probably be pick 60 something for pick 60 something and the advantage could go either way. Hardly worth swapping.

If we stick to the 36 senior and 6 A-Rookie mix for our 42 allowed players we have 1 senior list spot left and 3 A-Rookies. So a high probability that Baker will be delisted but could come back as a rookie if not picked up elsewhere. My hunch is the former.

Reckon the AFL needs to go further, especially now that in contract new draftees are wanting to 'go home' or pre draft players won't even sign up. They probably all want to go to top 8 teams.

F1 is future first round pick, F2 is future second round pick etc etc. And you are correct both are tie to Freo's final positon.

No problem. Draft picks can be swapped right up until just before the draft. Then again on during the draft.

You can change it. Go into your account. Chose 'Account Settings'. Lots of info appears one of which is 'Display Name' along side which is 'change'. Click on it and away you go

Speaking on Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio, Melbourne's list manager Tim Lamb said the deals were inked, only agreeing to Weideman's trade request once they had a "similar type player" on the hook. "We spoke with Josh on Sunday," Lamb said. "Josh is a player with great versatility. He's 200cm, he's an elite runner, really well skilled, (he) can play forward, back, ruck, he's really versatile. "With Mitch Brown retiring, Majak Daw retiring, we've lost a little bit of depth in our talls department."

I would be surprised. Eagles couldn't prise him out of Port as part of the Rioli deal and Georgiades is from WA.

Have a look at the top of page 1 on this thread: I haven't had time to update it for the the Grundy trade but everything else you would want to know is there for the draft and trade. To help read the chart for list numbers start at the bottom left corner and note the list size is fixed at 42 and 2 B rookie3s. But the 42 can be have a flexible number of seniors and A rookies. For the chart I have assumed the current mix of 26 senior players and 6 A rookies. Will do the final update after COB today. Any questions fire away

True and we have a few who have made a long term committement: Petty, ANB, Sparrow etc. I was referring to the players that go after 1-4 years especially top 10/first round draftees of which there have been many in the last 5 years.

Can't see them both wearing our beloved red and blue next year. 😉

Most 1st round draftees sign a new contract early when they join a club and usually for at least two years. He would be a high priority for early re-signing (along with Kozzie) so let's see what JVR does. If he defers talks or signs for just one year as Jackson did the jungle drums will start beating! Loudly!!

We should assume any SA or WA player is a flight risk!. Especially if they are high end draftees who show some success in their first few years. Their recruiters get closer to their managers. schools, families and junior clubs long before being drafted. The player will have barracked for one of the two teams. 'Going home' of top end talent is happening quite frequently now. New draftees see how easy it is, be they in or out of contract, to 'go home'. So I would expect the 'go home' players will increase further from now on. That is not to say we shouldn't draft them. But: Caveat emptor!
