It's the Culture
So, you would prefer him to be a sore loser like Scott in last year's PF who used 'illness' as an excuse?

Trade and Free Agency rumours
If they trade Oliver Henry as is likely it will save a few hundred K. Jordan Roughead will retire and that is another few hundred K. Next year they are free of the $300k they are paying Treloar Those three plus the many 'journeymen' out of contract this year if not renewed could easily add to about $1.0m altho' some will go to draftees/rookies. I doubt De Goey will get much more than he currently gets. It is also likely they will spread the incoming players $ to coincide with the retirement/salary reductions of Pendlebury, Howe, Cox, Sidebottom.

Farewell Brodie Grundy
If it wasn't for his $ I'm sure they would. Like us they are not a very tall team. Those over 1.95m are ruckman Cameron, Cox (32 next year) the incoming Frampton who has played 18 games in 8 years and Moore. Their tallest forward will be Mcstay at 1.95. Next tallest backman is Howe (33 next year) at 1.9m It might suit their game plan to not be tall but in the next few years they will need to replace a few of their tallest players. As will mfc. They must have another plan for their tall player replacements otherwise giving up Grundy for $ seems rather risky.

CHANGES 2022
In the next few days we should get the delistings and retirements. And maybe some trade requests. Players remaining OOC: Hibberd, Melksham: reported to have been offered a contract Hunt, Bedford: reported to have been offered an mfc contract and other clubs showing interest M. Brown (R): reported to be retiring Baker, Rosman: candidates for delisting That suggests a max of 5 changes on the list and 2-3 spots in our selected 22. More if contracted players are traded. We just have to make room for JVR, Turner, Chandler, Woewodin, Laurie and possibly Howes to break into the selected 22 at some stage next year. With the exception of Howes who spent a large part of the year injured, they all seem to have put on some bulk and will be stronger with another preseason.

CASEY: Grand Final vs Southport
Last year's draftees and Laurie (who was injured most of his first year) look like they have put on quite a bit of bulk this year. I would be very surprised if most of them don't get a go next year. We just have to trade out a few of the incumbants.

CASEY: Grand Final vs Southport
I'm sure they will but I wouldn't want to be the sad kid that walks off the podium without one...

Two kids giving out a cap and a medal but only one footy to give back 😟

AFLW: Rd 04 vs Brisbane
Big game starting in 30 minutes. We have a great track record vs Lions at Casey , altho the conditions there today will be very ordinary. This is a big scalp to get as Lions will be a major contender. Win and we are outright top 2.

CASEY: Grand Final vs Southport
Extraordinary bro love and hugs for Weideman. Do the players think he is leaving? Would love to be able to use him in the seniors in a new role.

2022 GRAND FINAL
The irony is Geelong and Sydney became us and we became them! They had two of the more controlling, tempo and defensive game plans and we were the daring and 'chaos' team (along with Richmond). Now Scott and Longmire take the game on and do anything to take territory. We have gone all defensive. But, we haven't lost the dare and attack style of the GF as it was replicated in round 23 at the Gabba. Round 23 is what gives me hope (and confidence) that we will come back a better version of our 2021 selves.

In what way? The comment was in the context of 'fresh blood' and list changes.

Daisy on Indigenous round and the minute's silence for the Queen
The question to me is how to show respect for the passing of a leading world figure. I thought the one minute silence at our game was quite appropriate and respectful for her as a person and the incredible life she led and as a world leader. The turning out the lights gave added poignancy and respect. It is something I would hope for when any great world leader passed. Crikey we do it for sports people! I don't think we should have played 'God Save The Queen'. It hasn't been our national anthem for about 30 years. Very few Australians of any colour or creed identify with it nor recognise it as relevant to us. The one minute silence in the dark was sufficient and I would like to think relatively neutral, politically.

Farewell Brodie Grundy
Totally agree. Yet three of those are said to have been offered new contracts and two are contracted. Our fresh blood have been running around in the VFL learning to play 'our brand' ie play defensive football. 😐 I'm not seeing the potential for many list changes this year, outside of Grundy and maybe another trade or draftee. Not enough to change our mix nor enough to 'force' a change to how we play. Unfortunately.

Daisy on Indigenous round and the minute's silence for the Queen
Hmmm, significant German heritage. Battenberg (Prince Phillips heritage) before the name was anglicsed it to Mountbatten during WW1. The Windsors were named Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and the Queens' grandfather traded it for the English name during WW1. History aside, it was good for Daisy to stand up for her teammates. Had it not been Indigenous Round for the AFLW a question wouldn't have been raised as it wasn't for the AFL games.

FINALS 2022: Week 03
Those players won't all go at the same time. Also, Geelong have shown they will target a player and get him eg Cameron and it is reasonable to assume they will continue to do that when they have specific need. They didn't get Hopper because to match the Tigers offer they had to abandon their player contract structure. They figured their would be another player like him before too long.

FINALS 2022: Week 03
Yeah, I changed Mean to Median just after I posted. I found this for you. Games played rather than the entire list. I think it is for 2022. But the author could be a bit confused as it refers to Average Median which doesn't compute. Now that I think about it it could be for all games played this year..

FINALS 2022: Week 03
In the case of Geelong it doesn't matter as their skewed playing 22 age profile will nearly always show a Median higher than other teams. The list as a whole may be a different story.

FINALS 2022: Week 03
And, they have at least six 19-21 year olds, mostly 1st round picks, waiting in the wings/about to be traded in, to replace the aging players as they retire. Excellent list management and this year have shown excellent player management, something we could have done much better. They have 'insured' their list by targeting local players and by not drafting i/state players. The 'Dad's ARmy' narrative has long been off the mark.

FINALS 2022: Week 03
At least vs Lions we put in a decent performance. Kick straight and we may have got over the line. But I'm glad to have gone out last week rather than be subjected to Geelong satisfaction of a PF mawling which is what it would been last night.

FINALS 2022: Week 03
Have they had any Free Agents? They traded for Dangerfield and Cameron and paid handsomely for both. It was built on lots of cheap (draft wise) F/S picks and more recently on drafting locals and enticing locals back 'Home'.

Trade and Free Agency rumours
They are also likely to get Oliver Henry in this year's trade. And, they have last year's draftees to come in. All midfielders except Toby Conway (ruckman) who they took with their first pick. Bruhn, Henry, Conway and their second 2021 draftee, Mitch Kevitt, are all locals. Geelong's age profile will drop very quickly when these guys replace the likes of Stanley, Blicvas, Selwood, Dangerfield, Smith, Duncan etc. It has amused me that so many on DL have ridiculed their age profile. Scott has shown this year it is about managing players not so much their age. Geelong's list is set to be very stable for a long time. I don't think they have an interstate player of note so no 'go home' factor or 'wasted' player development. On the other hand they benefit from locals returning to Geelong. I hate to say it but they aren't going to slide down the ladder any time soon.
