Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition
Lucifers Hero replied to adonski's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, lots of permutations. Like you I would much rather we aim for a top 5 and top 10 pick than use all our chips for pick 1, the original hypothetical in the other thread. There will definitely be more than one elite midfielder in the top 5 and then aim for the next best whatever with the top 10 pick. -
I like the idea but hope we come up with a better term than 'youse' or another spelling otherwise it will be mispronounce and rhyme with 'mouse'!!😐 I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to the English language (and for a few other things). But happy to embrace the new ideas.

I doubt any top 10 pick club would take that deal despite the inherent value. My suggestion in another thread was that we could aim for a top 5 and a top 10 pick by multiple deals with different clubs. eg using the picks you mention I could see us using 25, and F1 for a pick in the low teens to mid teens. Then package that up with pick 16 giving two good first round picks to get a top 10 pick from different club. Then see where the Freo pick falls to see if we need to go higher and use #35 plus whatever to sweeten the deal. We will probably get other picks in if we trade out players (even for third round picks) which again can be packaged to clubs who need points and upgrade $35. Overall, I do think a top 5 and a top 10 pick in this draft is quite achievable - it just depends how we package the picks to get a top 10 pick in the first instance. -
Gee, 'woke' can mean so many things. So often it is so negative it borders on being an insult. I wasn't trying to put a particular slant on the 'gents' comment more to make it more inclusive. No need to apologise, I certainly wasn't offended hence the p.s. footnote.

Boderline acceptable eg "hey you guys" to avoid that horrible 'yews'!!🙂 Too American!🙄 Need to convince me of that one🤔 Yuk, yuk, yuk!! OK. Guys and gals will do just fine.

If we play at the G instead of Alice we lose the MCG compensation 'home' game (vs Hawks most years). So we would probably travel somewhere else instead or play more at Marvel. At least this year we have only one trip to Perth; it is usually two. Swings and roudabouts. And it won't change! p.s I am not a 'woke' but may I point out that 'Sorry gents its whinge time for me' is a bit out of date.

For you and I perhaps but not likely for the 'fair weather sailors' when it comes to attending games. And I'm not sure how many North supporters will pay for seats, all things considered.
-
Tom Boyd was in the same situation: pick 1, left his drafting club to return home on a mega contract. He didn't get booed by other clubs but still left the game far too early, depressed and disillusioned.
-
They must have updated the forecast. It now reads: It will be dark and cold (13 d) by the time the game starts and 10 d by the time it ends. Add some wind chill factor for the slight breeze and it won't be pleasant sitting at the G. Sadly that will put people off going and we will be lucky to get 30K
-
Not sure such a game has happened yet. He should not be booed by anyone, anywhere. It is disgraceful that Vic club fans boo him; that any fans boo him. It is a mob mentality at play. There is no reason for Vic teams (other than maybe North) to boo him. Its heartening to hear opp coaches condemning the booing. It will stop. The kid is a star. His football will silence them.
-
He was booed at Adelaide Oval when Port played the Bulldogs for the Gather round. It wasn't Port fans booing. Disgraceful.
-
St Kilda will be returning from an Eagles game in Perth when we return from Alice. Unless St Kilda play that game on a Thursday or a Friday night and we play in Alice on the Sunday the Saints/Demons game should be relatively even from a travel impact.

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition
Lucifers Hero replied to adonski's topic in Melbourne Demons
Did he? He didn't say a word. He was genuinely undecided as one would expect of a 21 y.o. The system doesn't allow a player to publicly say he is leaving. He stayed silent. It was the media and to a lesser extent Freo that fed the circus. -
Updated for Alex Neal-Bullen contract extension to end of 2026 See ealier post today for other contract status/news.
-
I thought they would rest Hibberd given his ongoing Achilles problem. Perhaps with LD-U out they might do so and bring in Turner from the emergencies even tho they play different roles so they can rest Hibberd.
-
Happy to see Schache get a go. What surprised me is that TMc is preferred over Brown if the emergency nominations are anything to go by. I guess the club is still experimenting.

I wondered about making Woewodin a rookie, if we need the list spot for a draftee or traded in player.

Dees Potential Draft Play to Secure Pick #1
Lucifers Hero replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Given our relative lack of list spots I can see us trading up for a top 5 pick plus a top 10 pick but it may take several pick swaps with different clubs to get them. -
Dees Potential Draft Play to Secure Pick #1
Lucifers Hero replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
To play along with this hypothetical a bit further, this is the current state of play from the 'Contracts' thread. So I can't see us taking our two 1st and our two 2nd round picks to the draft as from what we currently know we won't have the list spots from 2023 OOC players. So we trade this year's picks up the order or cash some in for the 2024 draft. -
Contract news updates: Chandler: In negotiations to stay Kade Chandler Hibberd: Will decide at year end whether to retire See @roy11 report above Jordon: Deferred to end of year. Has suitors. James Jordon Kozzie: In negotiations to stay. 🙂❤️💙🙂 Numerous reports Neal-Bullen: In negotiations to stay Neal-Bullen This leaves Dunstan, Melksham and Woewodin senior list players to be decided. A bit surprised there is no news on Woewodin as new draftees usually have their contracts extended fairly early. Among the Rookies: D. Turner is contracted for 2024 when he will be promoted to the Seniors McVee ❤️ is contracted for 2024 as a Rookie and will be promoted to the Seniors for 2025 Aassuming Woewodin gets a contract extension, I see a maximum of 3 senior list spots being available - 4 potential losses: Hibberd, Melksham, Dunstan, Jordon less one known addition: D. Turner. If we asssume we will take Kynan Brown that leaves a maximum of 2 potential senior list spots unless some 'in contract' players move on.

Dees Potential Draft Play to Secure Pick #1
Lucifers Hero replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Last year when we offered 3 firsts (all in the mid to high teens range) but we asked for a second rnd back which would have been mid 20's. Can't see us offering 3 firsts outright (where one is 5 to 7 range and the other two in the mid to high teens) and not ask for something pretty decent back - again that team's second round pick in the low 20's. This means one of the first round picks in the high teens simply slides half a dozen spots. So it wouldn't be 3 firsts as suggested in the proposed hypothetical. -
From bigfooty perhaps: Had a "precautionary" scan yesterday and was spotted with a strapped up knee at training today. Our training Oracle @kev martinmight know if his knee was strapped at training.

What they are saying at Arden Street

And Ed hasn't been quite the same since. Played some very good games but not in the scintillating form he was in before the injury. -
