  1. BUMP! Edit: Sorry if bumping this thread has you thinking Jack has signed a new contract. Almost better. Nathan Jones anoints Jack as our next Captain! http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/nathan-jones-says-jack-viney-will-be-the-next-melbourne-captain/news-story/b552d255ab4f756475f02935733d0921 Tho I doubt it will be anytime soon: “I don’t think there is any real doubt about that (next captain) ... he plays the game exactly how you’d want a leader to play the game,” Jones said. Glad Jones will hold on to captaincy for now and let Jack grow. On track to following in his father's footsteps. Then hopefully exceed them with a Premiership
  2. Your point is? None of the posts have criticised Jesse. Posters are just throwing ideas around and explaining why...isn't that what a fan forum is for?
  3. Jetta looked very groggy on the 1/2 time siren. He must have crashed into Duryea while trying to spoil; stayed crouched, rubbing his head. Jet has had a few concussion incidents. If post game testing shows he has had a delayed reaction or a relapse he may miss. Hope not.
  4. Can't barrack for the them but hope Carlton wins so we can stay ahead of Saints on the ladder! Would be great to finish above them at 9th or 10th...a real springboard for 2017.
  5. Comments form Jack: Club went into game trying to prove ourselves against the Hawkes but we still have plenty to prove (over next 3 weeks). He had Max have great chemistry and know what they are going to do before they do it. Changes in Jack W: he was always being positive around the club, has always worked hard. Has gone to another level. Doing a lot of work helping young players. Players love his positivity. Even contribution over the field but good to see leaders stand up. Fan of Pokemon Go. Nothing especially new but love seeing him represent our club so well and with such pride. ...and commentators think Max is a lock for (official) AA.
  6. No, I don't. And I was not saying he should. No need to read something negative into people's posts. Am saying that he should give the warranted praise and recognition. Ox is a passionate Dee who wears his heart on his sleeve. He goes OTT sometimes but he is also fair.
  7. Jack V will be a guest on the Ch9 football show, sometime in the next hour.
  8. Hope Ox gives us the biggest rap of all time tomorrow! The boys deserve it after the bake (warranted or not) that he gave them a few weeks ago.
  9. Can't help but think that he will mature a lot this year. His contemporaries (Boyd, Daniher, McCartin, Moore) are all showing signs of being great forwards and some commentators are putting a few of those guys ahead of Jesse as the 'best forward of his generation'. Of course we know they are wrong! Tom Lynch (GCS) just a few years older is being touted as one of the best players in the league, in contention for the Coleman and ranks top 10 in the AFLCA votes. That these discussions are happening, that Jesse has not built on last years performance and that we have taken two big scalps (Cats 2015, Hawks 2016) without him would give him some food for thought. It may even cross his mind that he could be dropped if he has a string of poor games... I wonder whether winning the RS and all the hype put too much pressure on him to star every week and maybe overly fed his ego a little bit. But his year should bring him down to earth, not with a thud but with a gentle bounce. He just has some growing up to do. I think we will see a better, smarter, fitter Jesse next year.
  10. If Jesse needed to see what improvement we made, yesterday was the definitive answer! I remember Roos' words a few months back: '1 player can't win a grand final, it takes 22', when discussing contract worth. Winning without him vs Geelong and now Hawks would bring this message home to the young man. He now knows he is not our saviour and we can take big scalps without him. He may be desperately looking for a pen today! Well, maybe not but I wouldn't be surprised if he signs up very soon on the back of yesterday's win.
  11. And this young man will find it the hardest to say goodbye: tbh, I choke up looking at these pics.
  12. Poor sportsmanship on his part I thought, especially when he said 'they were off a little and we were on a little'. Anyone else would say they were beaten by a better side, on the day.
  13. Best ever first post! Made me laugh and sad at the same time.
  14. Just a pulse! That was a massive team 'heart that beats true for the red and the blue'!
  15. ROOS =HERO Anyone who has any doubt about what Roos has achieved at our club hope you can now believe. Not a Premiership but would have to go down as one of his most satisfying wins! Lets win a few more to see Roos off in style!!
  16. Kurt Heatherley: 193cm, 89kg, 21yo. Debutante. (HFC website) Sam Weideman: 196cm, 91kg, 19yo. Debutante. (MFC website) No way would Hawks 'rest' Frawley if Hogan was playing. Now we have a debutante vs debutante. Not sure if it reflects arrogance by Hawks thinking they have it won or indifference, not caring if they lose and its worth blooding a youngster. Either way, makes for an interesting match-up of Weideman and Heatherley especially as Sam towers over their experienced defenders and could take a few marks. Up to Watts and Pederson to keep Birchall and Gibson away from young Sam and let him go one-on-one with Heatherley! In my mind the Hawks changes even up the game a fair bit.
  17. In rnd 11 Vince, Tyson and Jones took turns getting in his face and were the 3 best midfielders on the day. And Jack Viney is in this time!! (out suspended/injured for last game) They know what to do and will get the job done!!
  18. Rich deserved to win. Had to beat Pies and umpires. After tough week showed real grit.
  19. Odds are that he will play as Roos said he would withdraw him today if he didn't train well or pull up ok. But that could have been doublespeak and he gets until 1pm tomorrow. For now, no news is good news!
  20. I didn't hear the discussion so can't comment on Gordon's comments, per se. I recall something about being able to appeal the WADA decision to CAS if it wasn't in accordance with the principles of local (Australian) laws...can't find the reference right now. BUT they did not appeal on that ground. “The appeal has been made on the ground that the CAS erred in determining that the WADA appeal should be conducted as a de novo hearing. That is, WADA should only have been allowed to appeal the unanimous decision of the AFL Anti-Doping Tribunal on grounds of either legal error or that it was grossly unreasonable..."http://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/2016-02-11/afl-players-association-statement There doesn't seem to be much wriggle room there.
  21. An Emma Q article on Brayshaw and Petracca playing together http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/together-at-last-christian-petracca-and-angus-brayshaw-20160805-gqlu7z.html They will be a formidable duo! Glad they are in our side!
  22. Those quotes are extracts, with minor rewording from the article 'hardtack' quotes below!! I had forgotten that article 'hardtack'! A few days ago I gave GNF credit for 'playing the probabilities, with logic' to get his statements/predictions. It seems I gave him too much credit. To see his post is just a collection of extracts from that article is particularly disappointing. I feel he is having a lend of fellow Deelanders. Not nice, especially as he knows he has some standing on DL. When queried about the post he said: It is another 'riddle' like comment and just stringing people along. I guess he couldn't exactly own up to his source being a WA newspaper! (BTW the article was discussed on DL from July 21 so info not new).
  23. As Roos is into his last month I thought it may be worth recognising his contribution in a separate thread. If mods feel thread should be merged elsewhere, no prob. First contribution from our likely future captain, Jack Viney: “I think his greatest legacy at the football club will be the culture. Hopefully down the track when we are being successful, it will be Roosy that set the foundation for that...I will miss him a great deal. He has been terrific for our football club, coming in when the club wasn’t going so well and really setting some strong foundations.” http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/paul-roos-to-test-demons-young-talent-against-hawthorn/news-story/718fb452b3441a1c22724475d8151bdd I recall Jack saying in an interview recently saying that 'Roosy is the 'boss dog' said with the earnestness that left no doubt as to who is in charge and in a tone that had awe, respect and adoration. From Jack Watts recently: 'Roosy’s probably saved my career, to be honest...It’s his person skills and the way he actually invests in his players outside of football'. Methinks that along with the undoubted respect in which Roos is held there is also much love from the players. People may find fault with some Roos' decision, rate of improvement etc but he never lost sight of the end game: setting up our club for a successful future. I believe he has delivered that in spades. He (and PJ et al) has made MFC relevant again. I will be eternally grateful for restoring pride in my club again. Following on from Jack's words above when we are being successful, it will be Roosy that set the foundation for that, my dream vision is Barassi and Roos presenting the Premiership Cup to Jones and or Viney!
  24. http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/damien-hardwick-not-giving-up-on-richmond-as-he-looks-to-2017-season/news-story/e02c992e2d36b0c1dab6ff2487ecc929 You really have to wonder about this mob! They have 72,000 members, rolling in money, a great CEO and stable Board. They have actually won 7 games this year. Anyone would think they had not won any and about to get the wooden spoon! All I can say is they have a good chance of beating the Pies tonight and Saints in a few weeks if they get their act together a bit. So they will end up between 7 - 9 games but want to lynch all and sundry! Crazy!!
  25. Had a look at the team that fronted the Hawks in rnd 11: In we have Stretch, Brayshaw, Weideman. (Out Trengove, Dawes, Wagner). Hunt, Petracca and Oliver had only played a handful of games - now more adjusted to AFL footy They are significant improvements on last time we played Hawks. I like that we have some have some 'fresh' players as Vand, Oliver, Bugg and Weideman didn't go to Perth 2 weeks ago. An upset is on the cards!
