An ACL isn't in the same ball park as a level 5 spleen injury (when there is no level 6) and they have have a medical procedure resulting in ICU and isolation for an extended time.

That may be so but it isn't why there was dismay on here yesterday and in talk back shows etc. The dismay, rightly or wrongly the angst was the lack of communication and support for the family at that time. One can't rely on media reports but it was reported that his family was disappointed and somewhat angry at that lack of communication from the club.

Not sure about that. There are not so attractive sports people making a living from self promotion in the various ways I mention. And those of yesteryear probably aren't social media savvy like today's sports stars are. Today's sporting stars eg Bailey Smith, Dangerfield, Weightman are also making a very good living from their self promotion outside of football. Demon fans may be more loyal to the club but I suspect we aren't his target market. Ditto with the other three AFL players I mentioned their club's fans may not be their target market.

The question posed was: Did you do enough during the two weeks following his horrific injury? While she sent a text(s) it doesn't seem there was follow up in that critical 2 weeks, by contact/talking with his family. Many are dismayed that she didn't offer them best wishes and support during that critical time. She didn't say anyone else from the club did so rightly or wrongly it is assumed that they didn't. It appears she hasn't spoken with his fiancee or the family since the injury 'because they haven't been at the footy'. So is a text to Christian enough? Is not talking with his fiancee or family enough? Some may think so. Many think not.

I don't use social media so don't know anything about his presence in that space. But I'm pretty sure his Brand (and income) will do very well even post football whenever that may be. There will be books (food, football, career), reality tv stuff, guest tv appearances, event guest appearances, product promotions, sports lecture circuit etc. Should those ever run out and as times change he will reinvent himself in other ways.

Wish he would! 2027 seems a stretch. If he doesn't get to WA this year he will probably try again next year when the WA clubs will be better prepared for a trade. My fear is other WA players will follow. Except for my special boy McVee most of them have extended their contracts. But as we know contracts don't mean much. McVee will be upgraded from Rookie to Seniors later this year but at this stage is contracted only for 2025. I'm hoping when he is upgraded his contract will be extended. If it isn't I will get very nervous.😓

A passing interest. In the FTA days it was in the wrong time slot. Nowadays, other things to do. Of the little I saw - a very clever show!

Thanks. Glad I didn't imagine it! I usually try hard to reference my comments especially where there may be some doubt but this is moving at such a rate it is difficult to keep up.

There was an article reported in this thread somewhere where the family took a call from the surgeon along those lines. I think it has been widely reported that he nearly lost his life.

I left it out as I didn't think it was that relevant to what has most people dismayed ie the apparent lack of communication with the family while he was in ICU and its aftermath. I mentioned in another post that I hope our doctors sought feedback from the hospital medicos just to be aware of what was happening. If they did they would have known he almost died on the operating table and that should have been passed on to our player welfare staff and the Roffey. As Andy Maher said, even if there are organisational processes in place a president is within their right to pick up the phone and say: Here is my number, call me anytime. Let me know if there is anything I can do.

Wasn't there another report of this meeting that Christian was there! And there were hugs and handshakes all round. It was reported the players understood his issues but they didn't know how to fix them ...

To me it sounded like she hadn't spoken to either be it in the aftermath of the injury or since. For most of us expressing dismay it is the lack of care and support in in the aftermath of the injury ie the ICU time, that is most concerning.

She isn't doing the club any favours saying conversations have yet to be had when they have. If she hasn't been informed is appalling. If she has and isn't telling fine say so, and your suggested words are excellent.

The Bad: Suggests there is a bit of rhetoric happening. The Ugly: Says 'we need to sit down and ...". This drama has been on for several weeks and whoever is 'we' hasn't yet sat down and asked those questions!. Its like Nero fiddles while Rome burns! She needs to put a rocket under whoever 'we' is to sit down with Trac and get answer to the questions she poses and if necessary apologise. At least get the story from the horses mouth which apparently she doesn't have or isn't telling.

Agreed. Its also about showing humanity and compassion to the family of and to a hard working and dedicated servant of the club, at a time when they were enduring unimaginable horrors. Such behaviours 'walk the talk' of good culture and good culture should start at the top. Respect begets respect.

I hope it was just an oversight her not saying that other senior people made contact with the family during that critical period. I would be very angry if that was my son and no one bothered to check in.

It didn't sound like any senior person reached out to them while he was in ICU or in the early days when he was in virtual isolation at home. Now, I understand the family being a bit upset and he may have a good case for being disappointed re lack of communication/lack of caring.
