Oliver Trade Rumours
I take that little cryptic throw-away line as a positive. ๐

Oliver Trade Rumours
I'm trying not to read too much into what we see/hear, be it +/-, in the media. We have no way of knowing what is happening inside the club. I just hope all goes well now and in the future for him and the club. I'll always give him the benefit of the doubt.

Oliver Trade Rumours
Last year Clarrie sulked a bit about not being allowed to play, argued with Selwyn, left hospital when he shouldn't etc. Later Pert said in his Press release that Clarrie had to learn to respect club staff and teammates. If he is sulking about starting on the bench and not liking his role that is neither showing respect for staff nor a team first attitude. Having said that I'm not going to hold any sulking' against him as he is a proud person and it could easily be the side effects of the ADHD medication.

I'm no fan of Cornes or McClure but is it so impossible to imagine a Clarrie trade? A recent precedent is Grundy to Melb for pick 27 (which went out into the 30's) with 5 years to run on a $1m+ contract and Coll picked up about $400k p.a. Clarrie has 6 years to go on a $1m+ contract. Grundy doesn't have the achievements of Clarrie but he was/is no slouch. The Grundy deal would set the parameters for any potential Clarrie trade. That is the logical me speaking. The emotional me ๐ฅนsays: I want him to be well. I don't want him to go. I want him to be a demon forever. I hope he doesn't go...

Petty Re-Signs for 2 Years
Maybe but I seriously doubt the leak came from the club. If they wanted to distract from the loss they could have released it themselves.

Petty Re-Signs for 2 Years
On re-reading it is a bit harsh... just doesn't seem a nice human. um ...what does the second line mean?

Petty Re-Signs for 2 Years
Calling him a journalist is an insult to those that are. I'm not surprised. It is exactly what I expect from his type. That doesn't mean I have to like it. I don't! Especially if it hurts my club. I find everything about him repungant.๐คฎ๐คฎ๐คฎ

Petty Re-Signs for 2 Years
There is every chance the club wasn't ready to release it. Morris is a known low-life, ambulance-chaser and has at various times released mfc info they didn't want in the public domain. I'm guessing his courting clubs didn't know either. HIs 'scoop' has robbed the club and Petty of some valuable positivity and PR. Before people assume there is a leak within mfc, Morris could have his info from any number of sources. Who knows where his type lurk. ๐คฎ

GAMEDAY: Rd 19 vs Fremantle
I discount the last few games. Last year poor kicking cost us 10.12 to their 12.7 while missing Oliver, Hunter. Now we don't have Petracca, Brayshaw and Gawn but we do have Melksham, Oliver and a bunch of really enthusiastic youngsters. A line up that is unpredicatable. We know how Jackson plays. Darcy has been in and out of the team with injuries and played only 9 games this year. Run him ragged and he will tire especially if ground is damp. Not worried about our lack of rucks. This year's game in Alice we missed Lever altho he wouldn't have stopped the belting, maybe saved a few %. We looked all over the shop. The team now seems galvanised with a team first attitude. I detect a steely resolve that was there at the start of the year and in 2021. And, the crowd won't be as one sided as a WCE game ... hopefully some of the 2021 GF, WA fans come out for us today. Oliver is on the verge of his best game for the year could easily be BOG in a Dees win hopefully good enough to take us to 4th. If not 4th consolidating a top 8 position will do for this week.

The Run Home
Can't say that I agree. If we lose the next two games to teams above us but win the last 3 to 4 vs teams below us we will make the 8. In fact beating the teams below us helps our cause making it harder for them to dislodge us. My view of the teams below us and their chances of making the 8: Port on the same W but have to get past Carl, Syd, Dees and Freo. Low chance Coll and Hawks have incredibly difficult draws and a W behind us. Very low chance GCS has only two games of 6 at home. They are also a W behind us. Low chance WBD has the best chance of taking our spot but a W behind us. So I'm still optimistic of making the 8 but will keep the lid on ๐

I think that @Sir Why You Little is also considering the impact of travel to NT vs playing another game in Vic.

The Run Home
Don't think I'll be taking the lid off any time soon. Have no idea which of the remaining 6 games we win but I'm quietly optimistic we will make the 8. Hopefully we then win a final and get that 'straight sets' / 'haven't won a final in x years' monkey off our back.

Judd McVee - Future Melbourne Champion
Agreed. He has Salem's skill, IQ and toughness with TJ's gracefulness and skill. And he has a sidestep and speed to get thru traffic better than both of them. He is an awesome ๐ recruit.

LOL!! Its early, need another espresso!! Now fxed! I'll make it a win vs Geelong.

The Run Home
To avoid the derailing of this thread with another 'Loading' debate, how is this for a Run Home: Round 24 - Dees safely in the 8. Pies must win to make finals. They don't ... EF - Beat Ess relegating them yet again to no finals win in a trillion years ... SF - Beat Geelong because we don't like their smugness ... PF - Beat Carlton by < 6pts, on a bad 'touched' goal call ie how they beat us in last 3 games. GF - Dees win vs whoever ... and as a bonus all games are at the G. One can only dream, eh ... Back to reality: Ride the wave of enjoyment the 'Baby Demons' are giving us, then Que Sera Sera !! ps. i've shown admirable restraint not putting a smug ๐คฃ at the end of each bullet point just in case the footy karma gods come after me and our beloved demons...

Judd McVee - Future Melbourne Champion
Sheehan had him on the bench of the AA team. Judd McVee (Interchange) JUDD McVEE (Western Australia): Small midfielder/forward with creative, clean hands and high football IQ. Very good at stoppages, he averaged 16.3 disposals (10 contested possessions), 4 clearances and 3.7 tackles across the championships. afl-eye-catchers-u16-all-australian-team A State by State view of the AA team Judd McVee (Interchange) Was outstanding in the first half of WAโs Round 3 loss to Vic Metro, finishing with 16 disposals, seven clearances and two goals. Caught the eye with his incredible burst from the centre bounces, and loves a goal from range. /national-championships-u16-all-australian-team-announced Interestingly, our Blake Howes was also in that team. He has had a difficult start and will take longer to reach his potential. It was tougher for him and other Vic kids as their 2020/21 development was restricted by covid lockdowns. I haven't looked at the other AA team members to see where they ended up in the respective draft. iirc we got Howes for a pick in the 40's.

He has gone to the midfield but as i recall it he had a key role defence for a number of years. Memory could be failing ...๐

Judd McVee - Future Melbourne Champion
I really agree with this. Some teams have one of their very best players in that role. Lachie Witfield (GWS) and Hayden Young (Freo) come to mind. He would probably make a very good midfielder but he may be more valuable where he is especially once Salem slows. He reminds me of TJ, effortlessly glides over the surface. He has great vision which really helps in hitting targets.

PREGAME: Rd 19 vs Fremantle
Dees have this: Freo OO form this year has been a bit meh. Freo have been belted In recent years on wet grounds even if not raining; several times at OO. We have practiced wet weather play in a real game; they haven't (that I've noticed). Not sure Freo know how to play a ground level, territory game which is the key in wet conditions. Dees win by 3 to 5 goals in a low scoring game. ๐๐ช

Judd McVee - Future Melbourne Champion
He was in Sheehan's under 16 team best 22. Also had great draft write-ups where to me he sounded like Salem. I get why i/state clubs missed him but for some insane reason Freo and WCE walked right on by, to our enormous benefit.

You could be right. fwiw, I chose 14 as some teams have the benefit of a draw and/or %. Also there it is now a 23 game season.

The Run Home
Not much to do on this horrid Melbourne winter day. So put this together for discussion. State of Play Top 4 looks all but set with only Brisbane looking a little vulnerable: Of the remaining 24 games for the Top 4 only one is for 8-pt Of the remaining 24 games for the Top 4 only 4 are vs 5th to 8th teams Carlton and Geelong play 3 of the bottom 4 teams Carlton do not play a Top 8 team Geelong play one Top 8 team Their fixtures and % make them difficult to oust. Better news for Demons is that of the teams outside Top 4 we have a relatively easy draw, well โon paperโ Conclusions: Everything needs to go our way to make Top 4 We will make the 8. Hopefully 5th or 6th to get that first Home final. Spots 4-8 will be a bun fight between those currently 4 to 13 14 wins should be enough for Top 8 Given the fixture, finalists should be known after rnd 20 I don't give GCS, Coll or Hawks much chance of making the 8. I don't like Ports/WBD chances of making the 8, given their fixture.
