Have you considered his social media work is actually good for his mental and emotional health? His career has been temporarily taken from him. He isn't allowed to exercise, except a slow jog. Do you expect him to just sit on a couch feeling sorry for himself - surely that would make any emotional and mental health issues worse. Sure he can read books, play games etc ... Any of us would go spare doing that all day, day in and day out let alone someone who has been very active. At least filming cooking segments which don't require any physical exertion and can be filmed in stages as and when he feels up to it give him a distraction from all his health issues and satisfaction to be achieving something. As other's have said, show some empathy and compassion.

Yes, a nice sentiment but as you suggest hardly an 'award' or a 'prize'; more of a token so not sure it will be looked upon as something special like other AFL medals. Given the type of player Barassi was it is a shame it couldn't be for the 'toughest' GF player, then anyone (not just a midfielder as is usually the case for the NSM) can win it and to be the 'toughest' is something any player would be rightly proud of. But no idea how 'toughness' could be assessed. It would then be a medal that honours his spiriit and how he played the game as well as honouring his name.

Yeah, just name the actual premiership player medals after the great RDB! As long as the AFL doesn't bring in those grotesque Yankee rings for premiership players that were proposed a few months ago ... at Collingwood's behest🤮

It seems the proposal is to award an RDB medal to the Premiership captain. It seems a bit weird that a medal can be awarded that wasn't specifically 'earnt', in the sense of being a BOG or some other achievement. But then we already have the NSM. Having two demon champions honoured on each and every GF day is pretty special. It was quite an honour to meet him at the 50 year anniversary player celebration 10 years ago. Hope the RDB medal has Red and Blue ribbons rather than the team colours of the winning captain! 😁

Hi Hellfire, that is beautifully and sensitively written. You have a real understanding of the impact of and healing from traumatic experiences. It seems you or someone close to you has gone thru trauma and the healing. If so I wish you/them good health and well being. If not I wish you/them good health and well being, anyway😊. Until I hear from the Club/ Christian that he isn't staying I'm prepared to give both the benefit of the doubt. I haven't seen much love toward him in this thread so it would be good if folks expressed that from time to time. Totally agree that fans vent their frustrations. The venting can be done with respect and compassion rather than vitriol and imputing all sorts of motives, jumping at shadows without any facts etc. This isn't bigfooy!

Just shows how much the players/club rely on Trac's energy off field as well as on field. I hope those on DL who were quick to jump into 'lynch mob' mode take a moment to reflect on how they have maligned a champion of our beloved club. All based on very little and because they weren't prepared to give him or the club any benefit of the doubt and wait a few days. The lack of respect to Trac as a human being (and a very good one at that) and lack of compassion for a severely injured warrior, who may have understandably had moments of doubt, has astounded and saddened me. However, they are concentrated in the critical part of the ground - the midfield. The question is can we attract B+/A level mid fielders in their mid to late 20's with that log jam in front of them. Probably not. So we will be drafting them or developing existing players. Similar question: How long will those younger players stay if they can't be best 22 from the get go. Petracca can go forward but a lot of his damage is bursting from a stoppage especially CB. Opinions vary on this one but imv neither Oliver nor Viney can play positions other than inside attacking/defending midfielders. Another question is can we really see/expect our captain/vice captain to play out the last year or two at Casey... Also, in 2027 Petty, Pickett and Rivers become free agents. All are from interstate. They may all stay or may not. We may end up with a lop sided list/age profile in or around 20227/28. Not pouring cold water on the contract renewals which are great, just answering the question on the 'risks'. In summary, the risk is having them concentrated in one part, the most critical part and impact on our ability to attract/keep their replacements.

I don't know whose responsibility it is. All I know it wasn't Trac;s responsibility to do the comms especially as he was having operations for some time after the injury itself.

Someone needs to take responsibility, at least internally, for this shiit show of communication missteps, from the initial insensitive press releases to the communication breakdowns with Trac's family and with the players.

Why was it Trac's job to 'clarify it' to the players? He probably had no idea what the players were told. Did anyone tell him that or tell him players were frustrated? Someone at the Club approved his trip to Noosa. Somehow the reasons for it didn't filter down to players but presumably Richardson, Goodwin and Gawn knew. Yet no one seems to have told the players the reasons leaving them to guess and get frustrated. And players could have asked the captain or coach.

I would also take Mac in a heartbeat. The bit about giving junk picks was rather tongue in cheek; a dig at the AFL.

Bring Andrew Mac to where he belongs and give GCS the handful of rubbish late picks they used for him and not a pick 5 where they matched the bid. Seems fair to me as they AFL changed the rules in his draft year and are about to change them back only 2 years later. Of course it won't happen...

I rarely have a different view from you so this might be a first. I've never seen him in person. Even so as a female he is creepy and thought that long before his priors. My theory is that when Oliver isn't playing Viney becomes 'numero uno' of the inside midfielders and his game lifts accordingly. We saw the same last year when Oliver didn't play. He came 7th in the Brownlow lasty year. Without checking my guess many of them were when Oliver didn't play or when he was playing injured. He will get 3 votes yesterday but deserved many more. Viney's game yesterday was herculean, especially after he had a serious knock to his shoulder in the first quarter. Showing the world the dees aren't done and underestimate us at one's peril.

And forget about 'innocent till proven guilty'. The issues seem to be that he hasn't: refuted the rumour he wants out ipsofacto it must be true. Perhaps he and the club have agreed it is best if he doesn't say anything. Let's face it, if he did there is a fair chance it would be misconstrued to feed a narrative. shown leadership. As you suggest his immune system may not be up to it. He may have had a health relapse recently. He may not want to be confronted by media putting a microphone in his face at the airport, the ground thus looking after his emotional health etc. put out or react to social media about the win yesterday. Maybe he sent a msg to the team on an intra club chat group and liked those posted by teammates/the club on that private network. It is true I'm making assumptions. Assumptions that are equally if not more plausible than the behaviours people are condemning him for. The important thing is he and Pert are talking so it isn't that he has no contact with the club/teammates. imv that is all we need to know at this stage.

Damn shame Brisb lost. It let Geel finish in the top 4 and have the double chance. Poor game by the Cats today but they are always a fearsome team and could easily take out the premiership which imv would be a terrible end to the season.

Very good coaching today. Matty Rowell has had a very good year and was BOG last week with 10 coaches votes. Had a few touches today but little impact. I think it was mainly ANB who was on him. Shut down the engine room and control the game! Good to see some experimenting: Fritsch up field a bit, McVee in the middle, etc Talking of Fritsch absolutely loved his loping run, 4 bounces before dropping a pearler in Disco's arms who goaled. And did I note how much I loved Juddy's goal! Also, kudos to Goodwin for letting the players just play with freedom and attacking game. They loved it!! And so did we!!!
