Reality for me is that injuries will happen - its a contact sport. Reality is not adding players that are known to be injury prone to a list which already has a number of long-term injuries and players with significant injuries. That is playing a high risk game.

Agreed! We already have KK and AvB with two years left on contracts who are effectively L-T injuries and probably won't play again. We have Viney and TMac with unpredictable foot injuries (who played despite them this year). Lever has flagged he may get ankle/knee injuries from time to time lever-keen-to-make-backline-a-force A club really needs a list of 40 players who don't have known and potentially career ending injuries. We will start the year a long way from that. So, we will be relying on our depth players again. And we don't bat deep when it comes to depth. There will always be injuries but another player with known injury vulnerabilities just doesn't make sense.

Farewell Sam Frost
No bargaining chip at all. Our only real option is to equal another club's offer which seems unlikely on the mixed reports. Yes, he becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent. We have to delist him before he can enter the draft. But as soon as we delist him (if we did) someone would snap him up as an UFA as he can walk to the club of his choice and we get zip. If he wants to go best we get a trade done.

And, I recall him saying he didn't get a fitness program until he arrived for preseason and that his weight was fine for the lock down roll but the demon's zone role required him to lose weight. One wonders how much communication there was about his role before he signed up.

iirc May first had a go at Frost during the quarter. He continued it into the break. May isn't part of our leadership team. He wasn't calm like the Hawks leaders.

Good point. I would have preferred that both May and Oliver had handled it the way the Hawks leadership team did with Wingard - he apparently didn't follow a team rule during that quarter. At the break they stood on the field and had what looked like a tense discussion. To me the club leaders dealing with it when cool is far better than a tirade from a team mate during the heat of play. We have much to learn regarding teammate respect and leadership.

If Adelaide sacked Pyke and made a long-term offer to lure Goodwin
He would only go if he didn't have the confidence in the list and his coaching team to make finals next year. The heat will be on in 2020. However, I just can't imagine Goodwin leaving the Dees. He is a proud man and believes in himself. He will want to finish what he started. And imv he is the best person available to do it.

Todd Viney Leaving Confirmed
I think he is the AFLW side.

Todd Viney Leaving Confirmed
Thanks. Hmmm...I'm in the camp of "a camel is a horse designed by committee", so would still like to know who our List Manager is, if we have won. Otherwise, who is driving the list strategy? Coach. Recruiters. GM Football. CEO. Many on DL have commented on the imbalance of our list and lack of certain types and that can easily happen if there is a 'committee' or 'team' approach without one person having clear authority with a clear direction. I'll ask DL's if anyone knows who the List Manager is.

Todd Viney Leaving Confirmed
Thanks. Below is the club's staffing under 'List Management'. Your description and the second part of the Lamb role, below, sounds a like the admin side of list management. I was looking for the person in the more traditional role of 'List Manager' (if it isn't Viney as @Lord Nevhas suggested) that has primary responsibility for setting the medium and long term strategy/needs for the list, against which trades and draft are evaluated.

Who has been our List Manager this year?

Todd Viney Leaving Confirmed
Thanks. Link now goes to 'Out of Bounds'. I wasn't sure when it disappeared as it was a few weeks ago that I last looked. Hopefully, it will come back when all is said and done.

Todd Viney Leaving Confirmed
Until, the last few weeks the club listed all Staff on its website under 'Club'. It showed Football and Non-Football Staff. It has disappeared! The coaching staff appear under the respective groups but I can't find any other Staff info. Maybe it will come back up after all the changes are done...

Todd Viney Leaving Confirmed
He has been with us for the best and not so best times of the last decade and by all accounts has been successful in the various roles he has had at the club. Roos sang his praises on OTC the other night. He said Todd is an excellent operator and gave him great support while our coach. Given that Roos is a relatively independent voice I put great store in his comments on Todd. So his replacement will have big shoes to fill.

2020 Assistant Coach Prospects: The Next Batch
That change certainly supports the club's goal of reviewing all aspects of the business. These days football technology is critical. By making this change it shows the club highly values this function. I applaud that. Now to find the right person to build the football analysis side of our operations.

Rawlings: No Runners Cost Dees
Agreed on both bolded points above. Carlton did it with Judd. He didn't give them on-field success but he taught a young side the behaviours needed for success and he had the IQ to deliver the game plan on field (didn't need runners). He also had personal and team success to immediately earn their respect. He gave them an excellent role model and I'm sure Cripps learnt a lot in the few years they had together. Unfortunately Cross, Vince and Lewis weren't with us long enough to become the role models. Some hope that Lever or May will be our leaders. But they need to bed-down their game and roles in the team. Unfortunately injuries have stopped them both doing that. Given it is the current coaches and administration that appointed a very young Viney as co-captain and who are showing no signs of filling the leadership void, I'm not optimistic of importing the person we need. Max is our best bet but given he has been on field all year and performed magnificently he hasn't been able to help overcome the problem of not having runners.

Rawlings: No Runners Cost Dees
I see the lack of a role model as a cascading issue. Loved Green, a very good player but he wasn't a leader. Grimes/Trengove worked hard had good footy IQ but lacked a leadership role model to learn from or senior players to support them. Jones and Viney lack their smarts and haven't had a leader as a role model either. TMac and a few others have some smarts but again haven't had a role model. Its a catch-22. Not sure how we break it.

Farewell Sam Frost
The manager would be right on the basis that Frosty is a required but on MFC terms: contract length/$/position in pecking order re senior selection. Terms Frosty is reportedly not happy with. imv, if he stayed he would become 'depth' as May, Lever and Petty will get games before him. Can't imagine he would be happy with being 'depth' and rightly so.

Farewell Sam Frost
I'm a bit confused Diamond_Jim. Do you mean, in theory, we could get Langdon in the pre-season draft...
-
Farewell Sam Frost
Frosty and Langdon are OOC so both clubs need to trade...are you thinking of Tomlinson who is an RFA.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ADAM TOMLINSON
Just another opportunity to pot Roos, right? What about all the good the calls made on his watch. Or are you one of those that attributes the bad calls to Roos and the good calls to Taylor and T.Viney.
-
WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ADAM TOMLINSON
I thought Roos said we need wingmen with speed. Not sure if he meant burst speed or endurance speed. They are different to someone taking a run down the fat side of the ground. The Age article says: " Tomlinson is an extremely gifted athlete and has been a constant winner of the Giants' pre-season time trials". Again that doesn't equate to speed as we know with our own time trial winners: TMac and ANB. Not against getting Tomlinson but would prefer someone who is an elite kick or a forward. Being 'free' doesn't necessarily make him a good get especially if we get Langdon who seems to have the same strengths and the same weakness: weaknesses our team has in abundance.

Danny Frawley Killed in Car Crash
My 5yo great-nephew plays AFL for the Lantau Lizards in Hong Kong. Two weeks ago Spud was there for an inter-club carnival, giving the kids tips: The side of him few people would see how much and how far he went to give back to the game. He touched so many. RIP.

Finals Week 1
My one line extract from Titus O'Reily's the-monday-knee-jerk-reaction-afl-finals-week-one WCE vs Ess: "The loss keeps the dream of Essendon making 6000 days without a finals win, well and truly alive". Cats vs Pies: "On reflection, Chris Scott was right, it would have been nice for the Cats to have lost on their own ground". GWS vs WBD: "Heading to the Gabba will be a challenge, up there they can’t play “Let’s go, Giants, let’s go” over the speakers. There’s no better way to draw attention to the lack of a crowd than playing fake chants". Lions vs Tigers: "As for Richmond fans, get excited, but not, ‘I’ll get my 2019 Premiers tattoo this week’ excited". Titus is always good for a laugh gets to the nitty gritty of what is actually going on!

Bernie Vince Retires
He certainly showed them: won The Bluey in his second year with us. Clearly has no regrets and is rapt with how his life has evolved living in Melbourne. And he played 100 mfc games - enough for any little Bernie's to choose the Demons to play for.
