  1. LOL! Yes, facing Viney, Oliver and Petracca in their prime is the stuff of nightmares so Gus should stay (which I think he will).
  2. Never fear Mr G. They don't have Seedsman this year. We will be ready for their 'charge the defence through the corridor' tactic. Also, we have now learnt to defend a lead so they won't beat us again in the final 8 minutes after being 16 points down. With a bit of luck it will be umpired better not that it should have come to that, last year. Dees by 6-8 goals!
  3. OK. A few minutes away from all the contract talk; there is a game to be played in a few days! This thread is a bit late this week as not much to report. The bf posters seem fixated with selections and very little about the game/opposition. A bit of pessimism no optimism. We need ruck cover or Melbourne will destroy us, if we play Murray again our defence will get opened up. They can't accept ROB getting smashed every week. Jackson will destroy him with his athleticism and pace. At least Murray has a bloody good leap on him and will compete at centre bounces Not complaining about the ruck, he impacted really well. but if we go with just Butts as a tall while he rucks we will get opened up down back. North didn't make us pay, Melbourne will. If he (Crouch) plays melbourne will isolate fritsch on him and fritsch will kick 8 on him. Clubs wont let him be an intercept, they will play through his man and work a favorable match up if we pick Frampton, Melbourne will stick someone (like Fritsch) on him and tell the mids to play through Frampton who is not good one-on-one. Nathan Schmook on afl.com seems to think a Newchurch debut (for McAdam) should be a lock. His call is Newchurch for McAdam, Jones for Hamill and and Thilthorpe to return for McHenry. Nah, this will be a lot closer than anyone will believe. We match up so well on them, particularly in the mid field.... wait. My favourite: We would get done for tanking playing Davis.
  4. There are a few around the world nicknamed 'Disco Dan'; maybe our Disco was 'named' after one of them...
  5. It makes a nice change from all the years when the Trade and Draft Board would be open by now!!
  6. It could be a nice touch if we announce his contract extension in late July, just a few days before we play Freo in Perth.
  7. Updating the Tables, of course! For Daw and Oliver. Clarrie had one more year to go on his contract and would be a Free Agent. The 7 year extension keeps him a Demon for another 8 years!! It is fantastic that he has signed now which eliminates all the FA noise in 2023. He can just continue playing great footy with no distractions. He will still be only 32 when this contract expires. Well done to Clarrie. And best wishes to Majak.
  8. By signing now he takes all the 'fugazi' out of next year, his Free Agency year and everyone can just get on and play football.
  9. Not sure anyone cares about the figure. He is ours, f-o-r-e-v-e-r!! This will take DL minds of Jackson for a while...
  10. Just received the email!! The one we have all been waiting for!! 7 years!! Until 2030. Woo Hooo!!
  11. Reported that Turner is set to get a contract extension until 2024: FRESH from his recent AFL debut, Melbourne defender Daniel Turner is set to sign on with the Demons on a new deal. Turner, who was selected by the club at last year's NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, is expected to sign a two-year extension that will tie him to the Dees until the end of 2024. He has been improving at VFL level across the season, with the Demons set to lock him in to bolster their group of key backs. The intercept marker was overlooked at the 2020 national draft but his form with the Murray Bushrangers took the eye of the Demons at last year's mid-season intake. – Callum Twomey He could be another Taylor 'special'. Sad he was injured in his debut game. I'm sure we will see some very good football in the years ahead.
  12. How can you say that when the only part of her dress visible is her upper torso!!! Let's not start picking on people's appearance/dress sense.
  13. This is my last response. The draft pick exchanges can involve several clubs to get to the end result with any combo of picks as long as they stay in the AFL rules.
  14. The same way as 2022: 2023 first for two lower 2023 first. 2023 first for one 2022 first and one lower 2023 first 2023 first for one 2023 first and two 2023 second. So many scenarios. We may not have a choice but two accept a top 10 pick and another first rounder. It is a damn sight better than anything Freo can put on the table. Yep time for a coffee.
  15. I'm not usually a fan of trying to guess trades but for the purpose of this exercise and what the rules allow. Lets say WCE trades #2 for #6 and #10. We get #6 and their 2023 first which is likely to be in the #7-#9 range, giving us two top 10 picks. Or they can split their 2023 first etc etc and we get one and they keep one. We give them a pick back etc. There are so many permutations! My point is WCE can get a deal done far more easily than Freo can. And Jackson can repay our investment by nominating the state but not the club.
  16. Not sure where the idea of pick 20 comes from. I mentioned before WCE can trade pick #2 for two lower top 10 picks and to aid a trade and satisfy AFL rules. Weren't there only two teams in the running for Cerra: Us and Carlton?
  17. We would be obliged to deal with the club he chooses. In my response to another poster above, hopefully Jackson and his manager do what Cerra did last year and not nominate a club until they found the club that could get the deal done. I would like to think that the he repays the great start we have given him in his career by not putting us in a position where we get screwed in a trade.
  18. That isn't really correct. They need to use a first round draft pick and it doesn't matter if it is #1 or #18. As I have mentioned before, Eagles could split pick #2 for say two lower top 10 picks and offer us one of them (and some other combo of 2022 and 2023 picks). They then use the other themselves and abide AFL rules. With Freo, it is exactly the same this year for Jackson as it was for Cerra last year but in reverse. If they can't get the deal we want done, then Jackson doesn't go to Freo. Cerra and his manager did a sensible thing for himself and for his club by not nominating a Victorian club until his manager knew which Vic club could get the deal done. By all accounts he wanted to come to the dees but we couldn't get the deal done so he went to Carlton. Hopefully, Jackson and his manager have the same integrity that Cerra did and find the club that can do the deal before nominating one.
  19. The AFL podcast this morning had Freo way ahead of WCE with a 'lure' for Jackson. Hate to pass on some depressing info. Freo do not have a 2nd or 3rd round pick this year. Currently they have #15 and #71. For future picks they can only trade out their first round pick if they have a pick in every other round (either their natural pick or a traded in pick). This reduces flexibility to use any 2023 draft currency. They have signed up every player worth trading for. Lets hope Jackson's friendship with Nic Nat is strong and Jackson picks WCE should he leave the dees.
  20. I really don't know why people 'shoot the messenger' whether that messenger is Wilson or someone else. They report what they are told so blame the people who are giving info to Wilson and others. The 'leakers' are the ones who have an agenda. If not why would they leak info about their club or players. At least Wilson cross checks her info which is an AFL rarity.
  21. I daresay we will be looking for a Daw replacement. Bell looks a good prospect and he seems to have the right attitude. As a delisted player we can just add him to our rookie list as we did Daw, (a preseason selection) without going through a draft. Or take him as a DFA later in the year into the senior list, again without going through a draft.
  22. It would have to be tallied manually from the weekly reports. Given the voting by Max, Clayton and Christian (amid 3 club losses) I would guess Jack's votes are less than 20.
  23. McKay and Curnow will be Restricted Free Agents next year so there would be no need to trade. However, they both seem very committed and passionate coming into a finals then premiership window, playing with mates so not sure why they would leave to join a similarly positioned club. Money unlikely to be a motivator. As we like to think of our players in that way and to forfeit some $, I would be surprised if McKay and Curnow don't feel the same.
  24. Of course not. He has already admitted he made a poor decision. So no deal before pre hearing, imv They could do a deal, go to the Tribunal and AFL counsel proposes a 'light' penalty in what would amount to a mock hearing. I wouldn't put anything past the AFL.
  25. Is this just media talk or is it allowed. itewart-urged-to-strike-a-deal-over-prestia-bump-20220627-p5awzr.html "Geelong defender Tom Stewart ..., as he was urged to strike a deal with the AFL in a bid to avoid an extended suspension." Chris Scott laid the groundwork straight after the match saying it was a 'bump' which was 'poorly executed'! Doesn't referral to the Tribunal mean just that? It will be a total joke if the AFL decide this given they laid the charge in the first place. Let a panel decide. Not the Geelong coach's twin bro and cohorts who love 'secret herbs and spices' decisions.
