Amazing that because WCE are at the bottom of the ladder the Jackson conversation on here has gone from 'no way do we let him go' to 'how many top 10/first round draft picks do we get' Sure WCE will be poor for several years but Freo won't be. If he really wants to go back to WA he may choose Freo. Anyway, its really a moot point as all the signs are he will re-sign, despite the stoking of the fire that John Ralph does every few weeks.

Whether deliberate or not Eagles are set to be at the bottom of the ladder for several years. If they get 5- 6 top 10 players in those years they are well on their way. Their problem is they appear to not have a lot of talent in the low to mid 20's age group to build on once the older guys go in a year or two. So finals are a few years away. There are some good WA kids touted in the top 5 of the draft this year so that might be a happy hunting ground for them. While their draft prospects may change it is easy to see WCE trading pick 1 or 2 for several top 10 picks and start their rebuild. If they finish last they also get the extremely valuable pick 19 to convert to better/more picks this year or next.

From Hawks bigfooty re an SEN Mitchell interview: "It was an interesting take from Sam in his chat with the brain's trust (Kingy and Cornesy). He said score involvements are a good indicator of who you should tag and not just disposals. He said Petracca and Neal-Bullen were the highest SI dees, which was really interesting". ANB out will make them quite happy.

I knew that. Ron told me. Typing too quickly today without checking what I typed! 😉

The comment came from Goodwins press conf last week.

I would think the AFL may be getting a bit nervous with additional players dropping out daily. A real risk to infecting Hawks players, umpires and other officials. I know their rules are to draw on reserve players to field a side which isn't a problem for us but the risk of infecting others is real. Hopefully, they switch to PCR tests tomorrow morning and just before the game.

4 is his shorthand for won 'four'.

Who am I to disagree with Matthews, J. Watson, G. Lyon, J. Brown, N. Reiwoldt 🙃

One reason for our pts vs Richmond is because they forced us to play wide to the flanks so we weren't able to position the ball where we prefer i50. I suspect this tactic will be used often against us as it works, to some extent. We still get lots of i50 but accuracy suffers. The tactic works until we wear teams down and play 'our way'.

What I find amusing is that Parish and Merrett are on 25 having played only 3 games together this year. On that basis they would be approx 50 one-two's. They simply play circuit work racking up possessions. Neither of them hurt. On Parish, he is taking a beating lately. Criticised heavily on Fox a few weeks ago for no defence and running one way. Passed over entirely in the medal votes on ANZAC day by Jobe Watson. (He came second in the medal) Then Leigh Matthews said: if you don't look at the stats you would not have even noticed him in the game. Ouch!

Fair points. I'm probably labouring the point a little but no reason Bulldogs couldn't play Sat or Sun to avoid a 5-day break. Regularly attending dees fans will go regardless of time slot. I feel our best chance to raise gate revenues is more Friday night games especially against good teams even better if it was a good 'big' Vic club. Maybe in rnd 16-23 we will get some Friday nights. Perhaps our home games vs Coll and then Carlton. Good for revenue especially if both still playing well. Lots of their fans and 'neutrals' to attend.

What They Are Saying at Glenferrie Oval
Lucifers Hero replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thought I would check in now that the covid affected players are known. Still no optimism but some refreshing humour: If there is a fast spreading variation we should also be worried hugging them in tackles. Our laughter could turn really sour by next weeks when our team drops one by one next week. We should try and exploit Joel Smith he was slow when I last saw him play for Balwyn 7 or 8 years ago and must be 45 by now. ’m sorry but one tall backman (Frosty) v Brown, Weidemann and Tom McD? 3 average players but Hawks have a tendency to make players like these look like superstars. Never mind Gawn rushing fwd at every opportunity. Lost me with this one, Sammy. Think Fritsch is the big threat on the lead once we cover the taller forwards . With a short backline, we would want to be playing a full field press Sicily and Frost played deep on Hawkins & Cameron. This will likely be the most royal shellacking of all time but I’m keen to see Bramble back and the super good hands of Callow. Hopefully Impey moves to where the ball is, not where it isn't. My favourite: Dees such a strong outfit, 5 premiership players missing and the side just oozes quality. -
Didn't Voss use the medical sub recently then say he expected the 'injured' player to play the following week? Scott is building a habit of bringing on a fresh medisub in the last quarter, it helps his aging team. Calculated. Another of AFL 'initiatives' that is slowly watered down by coaches not playing to the spirit of the rules. As it is the team who doesn't have an 'injured' player is disadvantaged by the 'fresher' team. Easy fix: the player replaced by the medsub cannot play the following game, regardless of the injury type.

Snap'! I had just added him to my post. Both Gunston and Breust have averaged 2 goals per game so far and barely any points. Give them half a chance and they will hurt us on the scoreboard. I doubt they will be kicking it high and prefer the fast break style of attack to make the most of those two forwards.
-
The 'dangerman' will be Gunston. Didn't play last year. He is a smart player in fine form. They will look for him when on a break. Shiels plays well against us. Breust is also scoring well. I'm guessing they will look to move the ball very quickly denying us the ability to roll back and set up our defence. Hoping that if we have a good lead in the last quarter that we keep going and not shut the game down. Win by 3-5 goals.

The question mark was around lack of Friday night games not about Dees fans attending. The benefit of Friday night games is that a lot of 'neutrals' will go after work, especially to see a game with top of the ladder teams thus very good for gate takings. Our Sydney and Brisbane games should be a Friday night, especially the Brisbane game which would be an easy swap with the dogs/hawks Friday night game.

One out in each line so each part of the ground should continue to function as normal. No surprises for each other which is good re our system and positioning. Smith and Dunstan stay in and Toby gets a run, at last! Dees by 25 points.

And where do you think she gets her info from... ...the screen shot was straight off the BOM site.

Son of Shane (Woewodin) It also took me a while to figure it out.☺️

Andy Maher just said we have about 60,000 members. If so, the 666 special membership today has been a wild success!

Perfect football weather: Wind and rain in the morning. Sunny afternoon. Light winds in the evening. MCG surface will be dry as a bone by the time the game starts. Source: Bureau of Meteorology

Not worried about our outs as they are not in the same 'line' on the field. We can cover our 2nd ruck, rotating mid and small forward without upsetting the synergy of the team. If we get more cases the risk is if they are concentrated in one part of the ground it starts to upset our synergy, ball movement and defensive patterns. Even then if everyone brings effort and attitude we will get the job done.

I just don't get the AFL love for the Bulldogs. They have already had 3 Friday nights and umpteen Wed, Thurs and Saturday nights. Now they get another two Friday nights and a stand alone Saturday night. Also, scheduling us to play Brisb on a Thurs night means we don't get a full bye with just a 9 day break after the QB game, whereas other teams, like the Bulldogs get a 16 day break for their bye. Yes, I am picking on the Bulldogs but they are neither a big club nor a successful club in 2022 and that is not likely to change in a hurry. The Friday night games in this group are: Western Bulldogs v Geelong Essendon v Carlton St Kilda v Essendon Hardly 'Games Of The Round'. AFL pandering to the Bombers again! Rant over! We will be successful regardless of the fixture but crikey they haven't done the club or the fans any favours.

Secrets to Knock Off Unstoppable Dees
Lucifers Hero replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
All that says is Sanderson doesn't have much of an idea of our strengths. Tag May: Petty and Lever and resting ruckman will do the intercepting. Tag Petracca: last time someone did that Oliver and Sparrow had outstanding games. Even numbers at stoppages: Great, suits us fine. Let Viney and co go to town. High pressure forwards: Hunt, Bowey, Salem et al will let them know what pressure is. One mid rolls back: we will just play through the other side of the ground. Embrace 'chaos. football: We have overwhelmed that every time it has been tried. Not deep thinkers these so called 'strategists'. -
Secrets to Knock Off Unstoppable Dees

McGuane sounds like 'captain obvious'. As if opps don't know those tactics. Impossible to employ all of them in the one game. All those tactics have been tried at some stage, none have succeeded for 4 quarters.
