  1. Posting to bump this up the list. Hope there is a great crowd. I'm going to brave public transport/empty carriages to go. If folks can't go and can afford to, chip in some $ to this most worthy cause๐Ÿ’—. Donate before June 30 for an immediate tax deduction. https://www.pinkladymatch.com.au/donations There are also PLAY4BCNA beanies on sale via the BCNA website.
  2. It looks like Emirates is doing what the AFL failed to do: Make Collingwood accountable. โ€œEmirates condemns disrespectful behaviour towards women. We are in dialogue with Collingwood Football Club on its response to the incident,โ€ an Emirates spokesperson told The Age.de-goey-granted-personal-leave- It is not the first time Collingwood sponsors have asked them for a 'please explain'. Some news outlets are reporting De Goey was supposed to do a press conference today but didn't show up. He has been given personal leave. Whether he asked for it or is response to Emirates enquiries or to his no show is not known.
  3. Their ins aren't a patch on their outs. Weakens them considerably. The three ins have barely 80 games between them. I think Tunstill is a debutant. It shows they have very little depth beyond their best 22. Dees by 3 goals!!
  4. Bulldogs and Carlton. Bonus if we beat Lions once and Freo once. 8 pt wins vs them and top 2 is ours for the taking!!
  5. Technically, that means that if our preferred alternate premier beats us in the GF, we will be happy.๐Ÿ˜’ I DON'T THINK SO!
  6. But 15 will. So many 8pt games to go for all teams some will fall away. We need to win 5 of next 9. Will be shocked if we don't.
  7. Is that chart saying the GF will be between Sydney and Freo and that Saints will finish above us? Neither of those is going to happen! I have no doubt we will make top 4.
  8. I know stats aren't the be all and end all but his 2022 is better than his 2021 on most factors. And 2021 included his finals series. So not sure why folks think his form has dropped. #LJ myths
  9. I think we have to change even for a few weeks. Jackson can't ruck, play fwd, fill the hole in d5o and be the exit target. We don't have anyone tall enough or strong enough to take that exit d50 kick. If we don't change our exit d50 from kick-it-to-Max the risk is what Sydney did: corral our ball carrier against the boundary line where they play 'hot potato' handball until there is a turnover; Sydney score. If we do change not only do we have the element of surprise we have a new string to our bow for the rest of the season. Less predictable to the opps. Not sure what other options we have.
  10. With Max out we don't have the usual exit from d50 where he marks the kick-in (or the ball hits the ground) for the mids and Langdon to do their overlap running game and deliver to a fwd in good scoring position. I see switching as a technique to exit d50 and let our good kicks do that in our def half. Whether we then attack down the switched side of the ground or come back to the corridor can vary. I don't think Lions have much speed outside Charlie. Even then it is 'burst' speed rather take a run type speed. We can take advantage of that around the ground. Considered ball movement with running dare is what we need. I'm quite fascinated to see how we overcome Max.
  11. A good reason to keep the ball low, switch and use players with leg speed of which we have plenty: Hunt (if selected), Langdon, Kozzie, even Spargo.
  12. Had a quick look on Lions bf. All calm still. Slight optimism no pessimism. The awe and fear has certainly disappeared from opp fans. A bit of chat about going to the G: This will be my first time seeing the Lions play at the MCG. Can't wait!!! Jealous. I have still never been to the MCG. Same. Waiting for a grand final - first time at MCG =premiership. Same - we're trying to save for the GF if we re fortunate enough to get in Got my September membership ready to go. It will be my first time in the mcc area - managed to snag a guest seat. very keen. Go lions!! It is easy to forget how lucky we are to play and go to the G every few weeks. My favourite: My wife and I went to a game at the MCG back in 2011 while we down in Melbourne and were seated (inadvertently) about 10m from the edge of the Richmond cheer squad. My wife ended up hoping the Tigers would win (they did) as she wasn't sure we would get out alive if they lost.
  13. And no Gardiner @ 1.94cm. Mind you they have an abundance of 2.0m + players.
  14. A bit superficial by 'Fantasy Freako'. I doubt LJ's role will be to win the hit outs or hit outs to advantage as often Max does. LJ's role will be stop McInerney from getting clean hits to the ball at stoppages and disrupt their clearance work. Or he plays to allow our mids to 'shark' McInerney's work. While talented, Silvagni, Dunkley etc aren't ruckman but they do a pretty good job of enabling stoppage clearances. And I'm confident LJ will do the same.
  15. Not sure about 'moderate'. Goodwin said yesterday the injury happened a few weeks ago and he won't be available for another month.
  16. How will shorter games get more crowds?. Night games finish late because they start late. Start them at 6.30 or 7pm instead of 7.20 and 7.50. And, I can't see how game length affects crowds at day games at all. Anyway, does a game 10-15 minutes shorter make any difference if transport issues aren't fixed? If they want to shorten games some suggestions: eliminate the 1 minute pause after each goal for advertisers to run their fta ads - if 20 goals scored per game that is 15 minutes saved right there!! umpires toss the ball up rather than call for ruckman. fix the ARC system so they don't review points/OOB etc. In all the articles I've read on low crowds, game length has not been in the top 10 of reasons. In fact I don't even recall it being mentioned. Call me cynical but this 'shorter game' idea could be a smoke screen to get the AFLPA to agree to more than one 5 day break per season. They have being pushing for shorter games for years, particularly after 2020 covid shortened season. Lets wait and see if shorter games = more 5 day breaks.
  17. Some of those players have played only 8 or 9 players of a possible 13. I know that CD works on averages but still it is not exactly a consistent base for comparisons
  18. Ginnivan is shaping up to be another 'high maintenance' player.
  19. I think it would be related to the 'back to basics' comment in the article: Something, I'm sure we would all applaud.
  20. Part of what upset Coll/AFL was the statement he put out from Bali blaming the media for persecution of athletes ie of him. The media did not go to NY or Bali and film him. It is Jordy allowing himself to be filmed and by the look of it enjoys being in front of the camera. His statement is typical 'woe is me'. He just doesn't get it. It is almost certain that Coll/AFL put in behavioural conditions, whether they end up on social media or not, prior to taking him back after the NY fiasco. Conditions and trust which appear to have been breached in Bali. He will be lucky to get a contract from the Pies let alone a long term one on big $. Even then the contract on the table was 2 years with 'triggers' for 2 years albeit on big $. If he had been at Melbourne he would have been cut years ago as a 'culture' risk. Any club with a no DH policy would not take him. Leopards do not change their spots.
  21. A number of those players are well established in Perth with young families. At their ages it is most unlikely they will agree to leave to go East or North East. And not sure that there are many clubs who have a need for those players. Most clubs except North are ticking along nicely with their list rebuilds.
  22. This isn't a 'non-story'. The story isn't footballer gets drunk while at a nightclub on holidays. The story is sexual assault. Clearly there was no consent. On another day or another girl he is up for sexual assault and this time their is video evidence. It isn't the first time he has been charged with sexual assault - he has got off the previous times. There are plenty of Jordy types out there. Think of this from the view of your daughters, sisters, nieces etc and this behaviour should be condemned. And perhaps help educate the young men in your lives on what is consent.
  23. I don't think the numbers are additive. Not sure how the question was phrased or what optional answers were provided. But it is probably the narrative that follows that is most relevant.
  24. The Age has surveyed 'club bosses' and 16 have respodsed. Each day the write up one or two topics. Today it is low attendances. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/friday-night-plight-games-start-too-late-say-club-bosses-20220618-p5aurg.html Crowds are, on average, at their lowest since 1996 with the exception of the past two pandemic-affected seasons. What can the AFL and clubs do to bring fans back to the footy? Schedule games earlier on Friday nights (proposed by 7 club bosses) Streamline the ticketing process 5 Bring down the price of food and beverages 4 Take more consideration of local sport timeslots 3 Consider making the games shorter 1 Boost the match-day experience 1 Friday night start time the lingering effects of COVID-19 to be a significant reason digital] ticketing behavioural stuff with crowds that turn people away. a back-to-basics approach to entice people back to games: curtain-raisers, public transport concessions, kick-to-kick on the ground after games, lower food and drink prices, and increased advertising should all be considered to ensure the trend of lower crowds does not set in. not enough weight given to local circumstances, such as when community sport is most often played, to ensure there are not clashes that make it hard to attract spectators. making the games shorter if the crowds did not bounce back in the next 12 months. โ€œWe must make sure the environment and the timeslots ensure families feel safe and comfortable attending the football,โ€ Nothing new to followers of this thread. Note: Apologies for bold font, it came with the 'cut n paste' from the article.
