NFL Films does a tremendous job with their productions, and today was the premiere of 'A Football Life: Derrick Thomas'. I started following the Chiefs around 1994-95, and Thomas was my favourite player until his death. Here's a little segment: http://www.nfl.com/videos/a-football-life/0ap2000000250281/A-Football-Life-Gone-too-soon
  4. http://www.sen.com.au/display-article-2013/Dees-confirm-interest-in-Heath-Shaw/61861 I just don't get this. Too old. Too old to begin the training.

  6. Nice of Dane Swan to take time away from the set of Deliverance to make an appearance tonight.

I'm taking this as a precursor to the Paul Roos Demons! Two wins for both of my football teams last season, but hoping for a reasonably quick turnaround for both. KC stuffed up some of our early picks but recently we've got them right so we've got some good young pieces in place. I'm somewhat spooked by next week's game against the Giants though. They'll be playing for their season and should be thoroughly stung by that disgusting performance. Hopefully we don't get ahead of ourselves. As for the tipping, fair dinkum. Every week I've picked two winners and the loss each week has occurred in zany fashion. As long as I don't have to run around Demonland with my pants down if I finish on zero at the end of the season.
  8. The AFL can time this well and slip us pick 1 at about 10.30 tonight just before an Essendon player wins the Brownlow and sparks a media riot.
  9. The question is, who isn't? Go Sharks.
  10. Maybe Colless hasn't been with the Swans long enough to appreciate the irony of the Sydney chairman complaining about poaching.
  11. People will come, Ray. They'll come to Melbourne for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up to Brunton Avenue not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at the MCG as innocent as children, longing for the past. "Of course, we won't mind if you look around" you'll say. It's only $200,000 per person. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it, for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the Northern Stand, sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find that they have reserved seats somewhere on the wing, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come, Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been the Melbourne Football Club. Australia has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But the Melbourne Football Club has marked the time. This team, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that was once good and it could be again. Oh, people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come.

Nice! Agree with all that. Speaking of Vick's physical punishment, the biggest hit he took today came on his first TD pass when Derrick Johnson absolutely levelled him a split second after he released it. I couldn't believe he got up after it. Enjoy the GB box score!

With apologies to Dappa Dan, that was a key win for KC today. Not perfect, as the red zone offense was poor, but a lot of positives. Macca, there was an excellent Green Bay piece on ESPN today. Well worth a read if you've got a few minutes: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9669836/mysterious-fire-1950-saved-green-bay-packers-espn-magazine

I'll make this my last one before I head off to work. Up 13-6, we cannot sustain this for a win unless the offense turns up. Dropped passes, critical penalties, missed FG and a Philly D that is looking for Charles. Need to get Bowe involved. Will not be surprised if we lose, which would be unforgivable under the circumstances. Huge play by Avery there. Bye all.

Well, this has been an incredible first quarter. We somehow lead 10-6 despite doing absolutely nothing with the ball and giving up a couple of big plays to Vick. The Eagles have lost two fumbles, insanely gone for a 2-point conversion and stuffed it, and given away a pick 6. Teams rarely ever win when doing that sort of craziness. We've got the ball at midfield to start the second.

Time for the offense to get moving. Three dropped balls so far. Thank goodness for the defense and special teams.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/picks The ESPN experts put their picks in every week. There are 14 of them, including Pigskin Pick 'Em, and the most popular road choices this week were: Green Bay and Houston - 11 Chicago and Giants - 10 Buffalo - 9 Atlanta - 8 KC, Detroit and San Diego - 7 Plenty of love for the road teams this week there, but I think a strong case can be made for the home teams from what I've seen so far this season.
  18. Yes. According to the Hun just now, he is "keen to be traded to West Coast". A sad end to the winning combination of Yeo and Gabba.
  19. Only with Mark Neeld.
  20. It's ok. It's not like you drafted him at #11 or anything.

Macca, I'm not finding this any easier!! Um... KC Chicago Green Bay No confidence whatsoever.
  22. Thanks for that. I thought it sounded weird. Was it a compensation pick for spending $1M on Scully?
  23. I may have missed something strange, but since when does GWS have pick 10? I've seen this posted dozens of times on Demonland and do not compute. Even if they did, that's a pretty hopeful deal from a Melbourne perspective.
