  1. McKenna is a big fan of Frawley? Get in line. I love the rumour mill, dazzler, so keep them coming. I will say though that "set to be traded to Melbourne" is pretty premature, especially if they think Aish will be the prize. If we get pick 1, then that alters things completely, for both parties. We'll get plenty of offers for pick 2.
  2. What a great weekend of football. I rarely barrack for Carlton, but I'm so disgusted after being supposedly neck and neck with Richmond as 'next big things' and then ploughing of a cliff that I can't stand seeing Richmond do well. I'm basically hoping that teams breathing down our neck in the premiership cup collection stakes (Hawks, Cats, Tiges) get bundled out. There's been so little to hang our hats on that being the fourth-best club of all-time is one of the few things to cling to. Great pressure footy from the four winners this week. Fortunately we have a coach now with an understanding of this.
  3. That's amazing, old. There is no way he could be basing any of that on any kind of formula. I've depressingly been through the record books back to the 80s and so far haven't found a worse seven-year span for any team, and that includes the final death bed years of Fitzroy, the Bad News Bears, the mortifyingly bad Swans, Tigers, and the worst Blues side in their history. In those seven years, we've been given one first round priority pick and one second round. I'd love to see his "formula" if we don't qualify.
  4. BBP I think that becomes less of an issue if GWS add Franklin to Cameron and Patton. Boyd is the consensus number 1 pick and they'd just be creating a logjam up there. Giving #1 to Melbourne but forcing the Dees to trade the pick opens it up to the rest of the league to have a rare shot at a future gun key forward, and I can see that being appealing to the AFL if anything.
  5. I think if we are going to go after a midfielder with only a couple of years left, it would be someone like Cross or Sewell. Someone who not only has something to offer on-field, but also exuding professionalism and hard work.
  6. Are all clubs supposed to have a certain amount of white in their clash guernsey? I'd love to ditch the Sydney jumper as soon as possible. The 70s and 80s royal blue and red doesn't clash with anyone except the Bulldogs, and our regular jumper is fine against them. While that royal blue guernsey is associated largely with ineptitude, at least it has Melbourne history. Failing that, I'll take an all red jumper with the traditional MFC logo in the middle. Not flopping hard to get right.
  7. Dogs, Suns and so on are going nowhere until they have a genuine quality key forward at least. If we have pick 1, there will be no shortage of good suitors.
  8. Really? So if we end up with pick 1, no one will be interested in Boyd? I'm sure the Bulldogs would at least consider trading a gun midfielder from their good stock of them to add a 10-year gun forward to their perennially useless, dwarven forward line. If you put the #1 pick out there, clubs will be all over us like flies on a rib roast.
  9. What a great day. Time to sit back with a bag of microwave popcorn and re-read this entire thread.
  10. Defensive transition running? WHAT IS THIS GUY TALKING ABOUT?
  11. It's glorious to be able to listen to our coach knowing he is the best in the business and not have to second-guess what he is saying.
  12. Not cryptic. He's just stoked to have Michael Voss as coach next year.
  13. Well deserved, Jones! Good to see our key defenders all finishing highly over the last three years.
  14. They changed it last year or the year before I believe to something along the lines of Best Young Player, which would have rendered Jones ineligible.
  15. Barrett on TFS just said there will be a 'mutiny' from the other 17 clubs if Melbourne gets a priority pick. Surely if it was that upsetting then everyone could have thrown a wobbly when the AFL made clear some months ago that the priority pick would be retained at their own discretion.

  17. Give me: 1. N Jones 2. Garland 3. M Jones 4. Terlich 5. Howe
  18. Roos seems to have talked and thought at length about the challenges, history and potential at Melbourne, and how significant it would be to succeed at the MFC. He'll even get huge coin at Melbourne, and the advantage of being in Melbourne over Perth (not trying to insult our WA brethren on here). I can't think of any reason he'd go to Perth at the last minute, it's only because we've been locked in the football dungeon for so long that we'd even contemplate such an absurd scenario.
  19. We'll be subjected to a lot of polls in member emails then.

Sadly, the Broncos should win our division easily. Mind you, there has never been a better time to follow a pair of two-win football teams!

Has anyone tried Grantland's NFL Wins Pool before? I'm in the middle of a draft with some mates at the moment - superb. http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/36155/you-should-have-an-nfl-wins-pool
  22. If this happened, it would almost be worth paying the $200 to go to the B & F to experience what it's like to be in a real life riot.
