Centre Clearances - Considered Analysis Requested.
rjay replied to DEE fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, but if I had the choice of winning the centre clearances or winning on the scoreboard I know which one I would prefer. -
Disposal wasn't great but his defensive positioning is excellent... The Swans couldn't move the ball cleanly from defence & Angus plays a big role in that. Compare it to how North moved it in the first half of last week when Gus wasn't there & you might get the answer as to why he stays.

I'm happy we're moving up the ladder and not just for the obvious reason... If you watch the North Collingwood game...is that 17th v 18th? They must get the worst of the umpires. The standard of umpiring is appalling. To think that's what we had to put up with week in, week out. It's still bad, but touch wood, not that bad.

Kysaiah vs Cyril ... Who is the Better?
rjay replied to george_on_the_outer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Cyril...4 x Premiership Player 3 x AA Norm Smith medal. An impressive career. If Kosie does that with us I will be more than happy...- 16 replies

They were good, but on the other hand the opposition looked poor. Fumbled from the first Q (Lynch started the rot) and panicked as the game went on. A long season and an ageing list for both these teams... It's going to be a war of attrition, could well be a Bradbury season. I hope we can keep a solid list on the park. If we do we're as good a chance as any.

I honestly don't think we've played our best footy yet. We're unbeaten but still a way's off sorting our best combination. ...not a bad position to be in.

They're really missing Grimes & Vlastuin is really lacking match practice...hard to come straight back in without any VFL time.

Great band...bad timing. Grunged...

So who's the Demon in this lot?

Speaking of favourite live albums I think mine would be "Sinatra at the Sands with Count Basie & the Orchestra"...great tunes, singing, playing & arrangements by a young Quincy Jones. ...and on the topic of "Ya Yah's", my favourite version of the Stones is definitely the Mick & Keith guitar duo.. ...also, did Charlie screw up th strat on 'Little Queenie'? he's accenting 1 & 3 then switches over to 2 & 4 when the vocal kicks in. If anyone has an original pressing (I haven't heard this for years) I'm sure Mick say's in humour & making a point "Charlie's playing well tonight", this has been cut from later versions...

I would be interested in Maynard...don't think they would let him go but if you want you gotta give.

Robbo is sort of the Molly Meldrum of footy...

Tiges are paying Marti a s...load, Jack's not on peanuts & they still landed Lynch plus have Cotch & Prestia on good deals. I think Merrett is a good chance to be in the red & blue

Our Robbo's Blunt Warning to Current Crop
rjay replied to John Crow Batty's topic in Melbourne Demons
I can remember 2 instances of this playing local footy. One year we were undefeated on top of the ladder after the first half of the season then couldn't buy a win agains the same teams in the 2nd half and dropped out of the final 4. The other one we were comfortable in the 4 and cruising, one of my mates took off on holidays about 4 or 5 weeks before the finals and was due back to play when we made it. He turned up on the Tuesday before with his gear ready to get stripped and train, walked into the rooms and we were all sitting around having a beer. He couldn't believe that we'd dropped out. ...so nothing is a given. I'm comfortable with where we sit but take nothing for granted. -
Could maybe argue the medium impact angle...as Powell played on. ...but probably just get on with it. It wasn't a good look.
-
...and sometimes you don't know how a trade really pans out until the end of a players career. The Kelly/Tyson/Salem pick trade is a case in point...We have been smashed in the media by the likes of Damien Barrett and even our very own 'olisik' but the balance is starting to tip in our favour. Currently I would pick Salem ahead of Kelly but lets wait and see how the scale tips over the next 5 years.

It's ok 'o'...then Jackson will give Hickey a bath. Jackson was key to our resurgence in the 2nd half, we're not a one trick pony.

Brayshaw was coming off a couple of great games, playing a great role for the team. Definitely not off the pace. Agree 'Jaded', we need to let him settle. The wing has been his spot. Baker is not up to it and my only guess is they wanted to have one last look at him...

Back to Mitch...showed a lot of what he did with us. Missed an easy set shot which I said to my Tiges mate he would. Had some nice cameos but went missing for a lot of the game.
-
Not a lot more petrol left in Cotchin's legs...just going at the moment.
-
I believe he was pushed...so maybe that makes 2 of us. He didn't get the warm and cuddly embrace and looked elsewhere. ...a little like Chip, pretty much encouraged to explore his options.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JAKE BOWEY
rjay replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
As for Jake, I hope he plays out the year at Casey... He's not ready for the step up yet, not strong enough to stick his tackles and gets pushed off the ball too easily. Looks like he will be a player but give him time. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JAKE BOWEY

Hah...he (Oliver) leads the competition in contested possessions. Hardly cheap stats. He's the best inside mid in the game. -
He turns 31 in June this year so that means he's 32 next year. No sneakiness or fooling about it, 32 is 32...
