Sorry 'old dee' but you did ask... Ablett and Mumford. Gibson and Hale. I know there was the issue of money but they could have shelled it out if they really wanted to keep the player. Should be a start.

Matt Jones - Evaluate his first 7 games
rjay replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
A bit more strength and his body work and tackling will improve. He has been a good pick up. -
Does he play in the midfield.

The problem and the solution as largely detailed by P Jackson

I can see the same, that's why it will be interesting to see if Craig takes up or is offered the HOF job. Harrington's position will also be an interesting one to watch, from the outside looking in it's hard to get a read on him. Jackson talks about getting more experience into the club, maybe Craig takes over as senior assistant and a new HOF with experience comes in. At the moment Craig has a bits and pieces role and that won't stay, he takes some training sessions, he reports to the board, probably the CEO, runs some leadership courses, get's rolled out to speak with the media when things get a bit tough. It's a bit like Cam and Gary said, 'hey Neil come join us, just let us know what you feel like doing and we will make up a job for you with a good title'. -

That's what Jackson is saying and what will happen. There could well be a new HFO but both Craig and Viney's positions would be different and would they stay on. It may be better for Jack if Todd moves on. If I were Josh Mahoney I would be getting my resume out at the moment, his position is probably the first to go. -
Maybe understand what I'm saying. A lot of pressure will come on Toumpas unfairly because of these mistakes, we are jumping at shadows and that is understandable because of the current performance linked with past mistakes. The myopia has everything to do with past drafting history.

I understand what you are saying but recent past history leads to this kind of thinking. Watts/NikNat, Gysberts/Talia/Jetta/Fyfe/Carlisle

Yep, and who did they appoint! -
Only difference is they have both experienced success, one as a coach and player the other as a player. We need to go back to the Barassi era to find that level of success. As for the article, it's not unusual for there to be disagreement over something like draft selections and draft order. The story at Hawthorn was that Buckenara was going to walk if they didn't pick Franklin, the discussion was so heated and the numbers stacked up against him. However it does raise the question about how much influence the coach should have in recruiting when he would have seen very little if any of the players to be selected. That's why you have the recruiting department scouring the country and assessing the available talent.

I think you will find in the new structure that only the FD manager will report to the CEO and that Neil Craig's position will be redundant. -
...and we can't afford the risk.

Do you THINK Neeld will get the axe this week?
rjay replied to Curry & Beer's topic in Melbourne Demons
I get the feeling Jackson already knows what is needed and will make the changes when he has the people he wants. -
It would be good to have normal everyday subjects like selection.

We're in a mess because we haven't had the right people in control of the club.
-
It is the case mate like it or not and it's why coaches are turned over of the 17 that miss, it doesn't even guarantee the one who wins. Think Clarkson/Kennett If any other club had our results then that would be the case and we can't include the 2 new start ups even though the pressure has now come on McKenna and Sheedy is stepping back at the end of this season. No I stick by the scoreboard as the stat that drives everything in football.
-
No the greatest mistake was the re appointment of Cameron Scwhab as CEO. Unfortunately a lot of the decisions made around this time were on the back of the strong personality that was Jimmy Stynes and those that surrounded him. Jimmy needed good people around him, unfortunately he had his own people, including Gary Lyon who advised him poorly. No one stood up to them. Neeld came into a club that was a mess and was ill equipped to fix it, I'm not sure if anyone could. I fell sorry for him but he is gone.
-
Only one stat matters in this game 'jazza' and that is the scoreboard. It's not particularly silly. Unfortunately like it or not Neeld is now a dead man walking in football terms, he will know this and the players will. Whether it's fair or even right he won't last the season. The new FD structure will need to be put in place and I would expect to see that happen before any move is made on Neeld. It will be bye by the bye.

Agree, if we need an interim I would rather go with Rohan Welsh or even see if AD can shake an interim coach free from the tree like he did with Jackson as interim CEO. -
How did Cameron Schwab fill in his days at the MFC?

Not me. -

He made the decisions and they were so bad. Another thing I've said before on this forum "Do you think Melbourne Storm would even consider let alone re appoint Brian Waldren to the position of CEO at their club"....how could we be so stupid. -
Get the guy at Casey as interim coach Rohan Welsh, at least he has a team playing as a team. Were expected to finish bottom and he pulled it together pretty quickly.
-
I'm not so sure, the only thing I am sure about is we paid overs.
-
There it is and there it was right in front of our faces. I've been on about this for years now and my worst fears have been realised, I bought the Jimmy hype for a time but could never come at CS and the rest. Talking with a Melbourne mate yesterday he reminded me (I didn't need to be) that I've always said the club will get nowhere while these guys are in charge. We need to move on now I know but at the moment I am just so bloody angry that this has happened.

Yep, but there have been some who don't want to hear and then accuse others of not being true supporters. -
