  1. They won't take the hard questions though 'bing', I would like to know about the zone defence which Jade tells one of the questioners is all about guarding space. I get that but what I don't get is that space hasn't kicked a goal this year and guarding it is not about standing like a statue or witches hat when your opponent is moving to the space you are not guarding. These are the things that are frustrating as a supporter and I know 'stuie' has been on about the zone defence for a while now. OK it may be a good tactic but we are obviously not doing it well, you don't have to be a great footballer to do this stuff so what is going wrong?
  2. If you were a Collingwood supporter.
  3. I think they need to give him a good run at it. He went back to Casey and had an OK game and was brought back up. They need some consistency with him but like you I think he would be better having a solid run in the AFL team.
  4. I think he will be but you are right, he has nothing to suggest he is a given just yet. Having said that Viney has only played what 3 games and Hogan none so there is a long road ahead for them as well. Nothing is a given.
  5. Tommy Mc needs the competition for his spot, he's off the boil this year and can't take it for granted because of a good season last year. I know he had an interrupted pre but we can't afford to carry him. Sellar is probably a better option on the monsters but Pederson may come into the mix a well. Horses for courses.
  6. I hope you are right mate. There are some promising things going on at VFL level this year, good to see Kent getting promoted add a bit of confidence from Jimmy T and continued improvement from Taggert and things will be on the improve.
  7. In the ideal world we could but at the moment we are not a very enticing prospect for free agents. Of course this could change.
  8. Maybe, it is the position he played well at Casey in the game he want back. He doesn't have a future as a forward/relief ruck.
  9. Thanks 'diesel', I thought they were relating to the squads. Didn't notice Jamar there as well.
  10. Interesting they tweeted Watts out as he was never in.
  11. The original post was talking first rounders and we had a 2/2 split there by bringing Viney in as he should have been, he was wrapped up in the Hogan deal although some refuse to believe it. Viney, Toumpas/Hogan, Dawes. I'm not sure on Dawes yet and think we may have been better off with a mid at that pick, Collingwood ended up with 3 picks and it would have been interesting to see who they went for if they only had 2. Which 2 of Kennedy, Broomhead and Grundy would they have taken. I know Kennedy would be a pretty handy player in the Red & Blue. Broomhead, another promising mid. Anyway, onwards and hopefully upwards we go.
  12. I think it won't be to long until that one comes up, I see we're already talking mystery ailments and pub brawls with young Stretch. What we need for season 2014 is already taking off... We gotta keep some interest in the place I guess, what's happening on the ground is not so entertaining at the mo.
  13. Not really, it is something that is constantly raised but it runs a lot deeper than just meddling in the FD. He created conflict in the FD and had overseen a failed rebuild of the club. A CEO is responsable for the entire business including the FD as Ian Robson is about to find out at Essendon. The idea, whether correct or not that the board told Schwab to stay out of the football department would lessen the effective role of the CEO. Schwab was not good at the football side of things, his record shows that. Unfortunately he had a higher opinion of himself and his knowledge of football. Brian Cook who played the game at the highest level and had a strong background in sports and phys ed (don't tell AD) was heavily involved in the FD in the early days working at Geelong. His record with premierships at WC along with his background mean't he had the respect of the Geelong FC and trust to make the necessary changes that helped build the club and culture they have today.
  14. Agree, but we might face the same dilemma this year with Tom Boyd.
  15. Nice try, pick 3 Hogan bonus pick in Barry who may have slid to a rookie level pick. Pick 20 Dawes. So in the top 20 we picked up Toumpas a legit top 10 and I will give you Viney. 2 mids 2 KPF. Still not to bad but I think you were a bit liberal with the facts.
  16. Essendon and Carlton have as well. Port were in this position (coaches ejector seat, troubled club) and a few potential coaches gave them a wide berth but they may have a winner in Hinkley.
  17. Damn, you must be a troll. No one could seriously post that and not be.
  18. I get where you are coming from re: short term results, it's just that the margins are still way too high on that scoreboard. The scoreboard gives a very accurate picture of where we are and it's not in a good place. People can throw up any other stat they like but the one that matters is not showing any improvement and I would like to know why. I don't believe these losing margins are healthy for the long term future. You will get an aberration with a developing team, the blow out result is part of that journey but the aberration for us is to not get a blow out.
  19. I didn't knock Neeld for the ones that have gone backwards either, and I'm not one calling for his head...but something is not right, it's not always the coach but the results and the way the team is playing is not good no matter how many stats people like to run. The only stat that matters is the scoreboard. I was calling for Schwabs head and I'm happy he's gone, I know he wasn't the person to sort out what is wrong with the MFC. One failed rebuild and another looking very shaky. It's now up to the people in charge to make the decision if we have the right man or not, I hope we have but the results are making it very difficult for him. By the way, I think you are off the mark with Frawley. At best he has stalled, he has had a lot of ball coming down admittedly but his one on one work is nowhere near as strong as it was and he is not giving us the run he did in the past.
  20. That wasn't the point 'Ron', the previous post had mentioned the players listed as improvers when clearly they hadn't. Nathan is a clear winner in the improvement stakes and a credit to himself.
  21. I'm not disappointed that Moloney moved on at the end of last year, I've not been a fan of his game. Drafting in better players such as Byrnes, well he is the only one who has shown anything of the experienced ones we have drafted in from other clubs. Pederson, Roden and Gillies have been a disappointment so far. ...but on your list you can't be saying that Trengove has improved. He has gone backwards at a rate of knots from his first couple of seasons. Grimes has played more games but I'm not sure he has realised the promise shown earlier in his career. Garland has improved this year on last year but he was playing this level or better footy a few years back. Blease still hot and cold, cold at the moment. Frawley is nowhere near the player he was a few seasons back. Look, I'm not saying Bailey was great or Neeld has to go but we have a bunch of players with talent who are struggling for what ever reason. I can't stand watching a kid like Trengove, who is a great kid and potential A grader playing as he is, it's just a shame to see.
  22. Yep, even the ABC are chasing ratings it seems. Surely Casey v Port is the match of the round but at least we get to see Hogan on the Tele next week.
  23. You don't know this and neither do I. One thing is for sure the players would not tell you if he had. People are using their observation of how we are playing and coming up with this as a reason. I don't know if that's the case but something is not working and it's not just the poor playing list, surely the list is not that bad and up until this game most players have been on the park.
  24. Interesting hearing Cam Mooney say that Corey Enright had the worst kick he had ever seen when he first arrived at Geelong. He sure fixed it so maybe there is hope for Davis, Nicho & co yet. My guess is that Enright was always a good decision maker though and this is harder to fix, Nicho is not a natural footballer and makes poor decisions with the ball, I haven't seen enough of Davis to say. Chicken and egg, what comes first, kicking skills or decision making.
