  1. Purcell was unusually quiet and West took a while to get going. Both will need to be on from the start. Agree with Gillard on Wardlaw, she probably won't have the agility or smarts yet but just need to go body on body and give her no space. The only other one for her, and it's not going to happen would be Zanker....so it's Gillard. The real answer will be to lock it in our forward half. Need a good 4 Q's from Goldy, Bannan and Mackin this week.

Just noticed Andrews has promised $6mill to redevelop Box Hill City oval. I love the old ground but another $6 mill to the Hawks seems a bit much. This is a club that was late to the party and not a bit interested in the women's game but reaps the rewards now.
  3. I wouldn't judge today's game too hard...conditions were poor. The first final was a much better example of the standard this team has set for the year and it has been good footy to watch. Today was a hard watch.
  4. Anyone know the dimensions of the Springfield ground? Found on there site saying it's an MCG size ground. Doesn't look it...maybe they can mark out the 50mtr arcs at 40 like the SCG used to do.
  5. Agree, the atmosphere would be much better at Carton, particularly if it's a good weather day/night
  6. It will be Docklands or Carlton and either are fine by us.
  7. For us it would be... It would be easier to close down our running game.
  8. I think Adelaide will beat Brisbane this week so it's not going to matter... We beat North then it's our call.

Good for you. It targets 2 things...one is getting you to change allegiance to another brand of bookie... ...and the other is at kids, to normalise the activity (make you feel the odd one out if you don't) and keep a steady flow of new customers.

The problem is more to do with the overkill on advertising and the acceptance of gambling money by the AFL and AFL media... It puts the AFL in difficult position.

The ABC and??? Not many left these days...

Gambling is a big issue...I remember my father always saying it would come back to haunt the AFL & he was right. The problem is there are way too many vested interests here to get a real debate on the issue. 'Bite the hand that feeds'...will be interesting to hear the SEN & FOX takes in particular. Will they put gambling under the microscope or will the focus be on the umpire? Will they narrow the issue down rather than explore the wider ramifications?
  13. I think the football media really disrespects the individual capabilities of our players and hope we smash the opposition in the next 2 games (I hope that anyway). An example is this view of the AA team selected from the squad in which I feel we were light on anyway (How Birch didn't get in for one)...only one player in this team. https://www.womens.afl/news/114433?_ga=2.239003458.338698434.1668390080-728946649.1646431770
  14. You can see the improvement. She used to run to the ball and stop, now she's starting to run through it and take it with her. As she gets better at this no one will catch her.
  15. I was sceptical at first 'old dee' but believe me our girls are great to watch. Sure the skills are not at the AFL level but they have really improved. The sense of fun as well as competitiveness from this group along with the x factor of Bannan and the 2 Irish girls Goldy and Mackin is worth it. I've never seen anyone in the mens game do what Bannan has done. Her speed over the ground with long strides is simply incredible. The 6 bounce run last week, not to mention the play on goal, the run down tackle from 50+ metres away a few weeks back. Get on board 'old dee'...
  16. I certainly hope you are not being serious with this comment? The women take their game very seriously & give it 100%, there is no difference in effort & commitment between the 2 competitions. To call the AFLW a token league is insulting.

All I can hope is that we're linked into the new MCG redevelopment in some way. Other than that I'm not sure what's on the agenda that's keeping everything hush, hush.

  19. I was waiting...
  20. No, that's just a little bit crook.
  21. Pluses and minuses here. Would you think it good to have no candidates to vote for in the upcoming State elections? 10 candidates gives members options, it's called democracy. The down side of democracy is you are answerable to your constituents and this can make some things difficult to achieve as not all of them will agree with your ideas. Some might even have better ideas.
  22. I even know Geelong supporters who can't stand Danger...

Goldy is a unique player...we use her in a shutdown role but she's also used us an attacking take the game on option at the same time.

Colin Hay was great...got home and just finished the replay. How good was that! Will read everybody's posts tomorrow but a couple of quick thoughts. Mackin is improving with every game and super important tonight. How good will she be when she learns the game. Gillard is surprising me, another improving with each game. Bannan! that 6 bounce run was insane. Then add the rest of her game. X-factor plus. That was a free to Hore at the end...Randall dived and took her legs out.

The addition of Mackin and Goldy to the round one side makes us stronger. Also the experimentation with Heath during the season gives us a lot more versatility. ...and almost forgot giving Harris a run in the ruck has been a great move.
