You can, but not all in the one area of the ground...particularly where we run thin anyway. The luck ran against us as soon as Petty went down & Fritsch never had a good run at it all year. Don't think that his foot injuries didn't take a toll on his accuracy either. He missed shots he would kick with his eyes closed normally.

Personal opinion is that the specie will be gone from the game. ...and the game will be very similar to Gaelic Football with no tackling or maybe limited tackling. Marking with knees lifted will be outlawed. Whether it will be a spectacle worth watching, who knows. Times change, things change. It's been a great game but is it worth the damage to the players?

Me neither...all the talk of lanes. I just can't see Maynard in the lane of the ball. If it was a legit smother attempt wouldn't this be his lane. If you watch Kossie here he jumps at the ball. Where do the players that miss get match practice? I'm really interested to see Mackin but how does she learn the game?

I think it's been a brilliant coaching & playing exhibition against the odds this season. A lot has gone against us yet we still finished top 4. Will need a rabbit out of the hat from Goody and the FD to push much further but it's not beyond this team.

I must admit, I would be quietly happy to see Howe do a serious hammy at training. ...and Maynard take out Moore in a smothering drill.

I heard that we have a closed training session tomorrow. Practicing the new AFL smothering technique.

It actually won't at all 'Earl', if anything it makes matters worse for them. Any legal action will make the point that the AFL rules weren't strong enough to protect the ball player. This decision will come back and bite hard. I don't think they have any option but to appeal.

He seemed to have plenty of time to turn his body and bump. If he had no time to react he would have run straight into Gus with his arms up in the air trying to smother.

Interesting discussion also on 360 with Scott & Lyon. Whilst neither directly threw Maynard under the bus you could read between some pretty pointed lines. AS for the comments made by many about him not having time to react...Lyon made a comment along the lines of have you seen how quick these guys make decisions in tight spaces these days. Scott commented that if it was at training do you think he would have knocked out his teammate.

...been saying this for a while 'jnrmac'...it's obvious his intent was to put pressure on the kicker. If he was trying to smother he would have jumped toward the ball which was on his right hand side. He didn't he just waved a hand at it. ...then carried on to his original target, Gus. I'm not saying that he deliberately wanted to knock him out, but I'm pretty sure he wanted to let him feel it.
