  1. I couldn't believe they took this risk...of all clubs, they can't afford this one to go wrong. The kid is a gun, but will he reach his potential? Some of the McGuire decisions post premiership have been bewildering to say the least. ...and yes I know he's not responsible for picking kids at the draft but his philosophy does filter down. I was surprised he didn't pick Gubby as the new CEO, his 12 months would be up soon...
  2. If we get one player out of this lot we have done well. It's a numbers game at these picks...we had 3-4 picks so to get 1 B to B+ level player would be a good result, 2 exceptional. Lets hope.
  3. Surely you're not serious with this post... We trade in Lever who was the pick of the trade period, seen as a future captain at Adelaide. 3 years in the system so more leadership straight up in 2018 than any draft pick. Plus it was a midfielders draft with no quality talls at the top end. If we get one player out of this 4 it will be a bonus. With Lever we already have one... You draft for best available, trade for needs. We traded in quality and leadership... A clear run with injury and we are a definite top 4 chance...forget about going backwards.
  4. On talent alone he would be a top 5 pick. A club will pull the trigger on him early and take the chance. I think the Saints with 2 picks will have a go at him.
  5. ...but shouldn't it actually be about the game... It's not so beneficial if the media are focussed on trade when the season is in full swing. Other games need this kind of distraction as they do "Match day Experiences"... Strange to say this these days but to me the game is and was always the focus...it's more than good enough. The actual game suffers with this type of media frenzy, and it will be a frenzy.
  6. Yet from memory you weren't that impressed with Bailey. Now this is only going by the highlights but Bailey to me was very smooth, looked to have good skills and vision. Baker, again by the highlights didn't really impress. For one thing his handball seems very mechanical and forced, almost like someone who is only just coming to terms with the skill. Anyway, it will be interesting to see who we take this draft. Lets hope we get a real gem here...
  7. NEAFL though 'Dee'...players rack up the numbers in that comp. I think a lot of the so called experts have decided we need some run and carry and have been blind sided by this. They have us picking on a needs basis and as our own history tells us, this is a recipe for disaster. I just want us to get the best available prospect.
  8. Above from Snoop dog... If he doesn't win a lot of ball in the NEAFL then I would be concerned with his footy smarts...
  9. Nah...Terry often says himself that the fans usually know more about their own club than he and other experts do. Mainly because we watch and take in every little detail. He has to cover off 18 clubs, I wouldn't take it as a slight on our club or profile...
  10. The elephant in the room is the clubs being able to trade players where they (the clubs) want. The players hold too much power at the moment. Until this is addressed then trade, free agency and other ideas the AFL bring in from the USA will always be half pregnant.
  11. I think mid season is a really good time to watch footy. Unfortunately trade talk seems to run hot 12 months a year now and the primary product, footy suffers. Maybe the idea is to devalue the game and make trading the primary product... We have a great game, a pity the AFL work hard to devalue it little by little.
  12. "If you take the average speed of the current world 100 m record (Bolt's 9.58 s), you get about 10.44 meters/sec (23.35 miles/hr, 37.58 km/hr). " Faster than Bolt...so I would say very fast. Who said we had a slow midfield?
  13. We've taken the basketball experiment and it looks to be paying off. Smith and Maynard look pretty good to me. We can't spread too thin...
  14. I think Tyson is a very strong player around the ball is very underrated in this regard. The knock on him is his disposal but he is a very important player at getting the ball moving from congestion. I've seen him break even with Mummy (at his peak not in his decline) a few times trying to wrestle the ball off each other and that says to me he is very physically strong.
  15. I think you are reading way too much into a puff piece. They're pumping up their new boss, it's what you do when you move clubs. How long is it until the first game....please.
  16. It's redundant, more than ludicrous. ...as I say to my mates. In all the years I've played and watched football I've never seen an umpire run forward after a ball up.
  17. One thing that is known about the draft is that the inside mids (contested players) are easier to get a handle on...and you're more likely to get a decent player from this group. The outside players are where the early busts are more likely to be. Think someone like Toumpas for example. I think by ranking & focussing on outside mids we are more likely to fail. Pick best available in the draft and trade for weaknesses.
  18. I would think the players anxiety rises every time they run out on the ground and see that Ray is one of the umpires...
  19. Sure it is...
  20. This might be the problem...
  21. A good reason to keep it if you ask me...
  22. Hardly...the game is more congested than ever. Throwing the ball up is too predictable and all you do is get numbers around the contest. Go back to bouncing around the ground and let the game go...less predictability and less packs.
  23. It's only a matter of time before we start using a round ball. The end is nigh...
  24. It's a non argument 'picket'... We're not recruiting him. We would have mad a move by now if we were.
