  1. Question for the regular VFL watchers - have you seen any sign that either Bedford or Chandler are any chance to make it, or do we have another two Dion Johnstones on our list?
  2. There is a very fine line between treating the media like fools and treating the supporters like fools. I'm not sure that Goodwin has got that balance right yet.
  3. There has been no progress on the status of Smith, Kolodjashnij, Vandenberg and Jetta since the initial incidents. Does that mean there actually is no improvement, or we're just plucking figures from thin air to complete the injury reports?
  4. I think we missed an opportunity at Moorabbin. It is close enough to our heartland, decent facilities on the back of council and government funding, and easy enough to get to for players living in the south east. It also ties in nicely with our relationship with SMJFL.
  5. Trengove would be a massive upgrade on the likes of Maynard, C.Wagner & Kennedy-Harris who are just clogging the list. That said, there is no point him being on the list either if Goodwin won't play him.
  6. Should have been a fine at most. The hand wringers in this thread are really saying they would be happy for Clayton Oliver to be suspended for that? I very much doubt it.
  7. Does the club actually care what is being said about it in the media, or are the key individuals all bunkering down protecting their own backsides? What do the sponsors think of what seems to be a complete lack of professionalism and accountability at the club in certain respects this season? The last thing we need is the parents of players having reason to doubt that their sons are being looked after properly.
  8. Isn't that still last weeks report? It says updated 1 May.
  9. I really don't care what Steven May does in his own time (although I am sorry if he is going through a relationship break up), but I do care when he doesn't fully commit on the club's time. That includes turning up to pre season unfit, getting suspended for a stupid act in a meaningless practice game, and drinking whilst in rehab against club rules (written or unwritten). For an experienced player, who was recruited in part for his leadership qualities, he has been totally abysmal to date. Come on Steven, prove to me that you are at the club for anything other than a massive pay packet.
  10. I'm more concerned with how often our players look to pass the ball when they mark inside 50. If you can't kick 50 metres you shouldn't be on an AFL list, so go back, take some responsibility and kick the goal.
  11. Bedford & Chandler - 10 touches & 4 tackles between them. I find it extraordinary that we can't find some decent crumbing forwards who can apply some defensive pressure occasionally. Yes, they are young and inexperienced, but that type of player is not really reliant on developing size and strength. Either they have the work rate and ability to read the play or they don't.
  12. Pendlebury is the only player over 30 who is a regular, and he could play for another 5 years. Treloar, Adams, , Crisp, Grundy, Hoskin-Elliott, De Goey, Phillips, Moore, Langdon, Stephenson, Maynard all 25 or under at start of year. Collingwood will be contending for at least the next five years.
  13. Good luck to Declan Keilty, but Tim Smith must be the most fragile footballer on the footballer. The sooner he is off the list the better.
  14. Crowd will be interesting this week. I have already been offered free tickets from two different sources, in addition to my membership. They must be worried about a poor turnout.
  15. https://womens.afl/news/17858/trade-and-signing-period-who-your-club-picked-up-plus-our-verdicthttps://womens.afl/news/17858/trade-and-signing-period-who-your-club-picked-up-plus-our-verdict 24 on the list, presumably not too many spots left to fill. Not sure that Libby Birch was worth pick 8, but perhaps the draft is weak. Cat Phillips is an interesting departure.
  16. Last week was the first time I felt that the players were solely responsible for the result. Goodwin's coaching and selections were abysmal in the first five weeks, but he had a much better game on Anzac Eve. Clarkson-coached sides have regularly had us beaten before we have even taken the field over the past decade, so Goodwin will need to be at his absolute best for us to be competitive this week.
  17. https://womens.afl/news/17845/second-chance-beckons-for-delisted-free-agents Surely we need to find another decent forward - I hate to suggest it, but would we consider Moana Hope as a delisted free agent, although Richmond or St Kilda is more likely. Am I right in thinking we don't have either a first or second round draft pick this year? Hence delisted free agents might be the only way to go, as our first pick is likely close to pick 50.
  18. I hope they are sending Steven May to every school in Melbourne between now and his next game to read to some kids or do something constructive to earn his fat paycheck. The Jetta injury is largely the fault of the club/individuals that let him play when clearly injured, and heads need to roll.
  19. I've been a member for 35 years and Garry Lyon is comfortably in the top 3 MFC players in that time, if not number 1. It simply staggers me that he is not in the AFL Hall of Fame.
  20. Can someone please tell me what role Spargo plays at Casey. I don't see an AFL player at all, but he has his supporters who gush about him at every opportunity. At VFL level does he play as a midfielder who can't find the football, or a forward who can't find the goals?
  21. I'll ask again, what is the point of aspiring to 70K members when 2/3 of those will be 3 game members? Far better to have 30K-40K 11 or 22 game members from a $$ and attendance perspective, and to work on keeping those people happy. Richmond were spruiking 95K members on Wednesday, we have 48K. That is 143K people who had tickets for Wednesday's match, not counting AFL and MCC members and walk ups, and only 72K showed up. It's still a decent crowd, but you can't pretend that the majority of the members of either team are rusted on supporters who are going to take the club forward.
  22. I still can't work out whether Viney took on Stack thinking he could run straight through him, or was completely oblivious to his presence. Either way it was extraordinarily poor football. I agree with other posters - if there is any thought that Viney could benefit from having surgery, just get it done. He has had little influence to date, so we will hardly be worse off getting games into a kid.
  23. I'm used to seeing players step up in a contract year (Travis Johnstone is the classic example), but Weideman can't even look interested in his contract year. I have no issue with his ability to take a mark and kick a goal, but he still has zero intensity and hunger for the contest. I don't even think it an issue of physical development. Weideman just looks like the big kid who has cruised through his junior football on size and talent alone (probably similar to Jack Watts). Now he is no bigger and stronger than anyone else, and his work rate is atrocious compared with his opponents.
  24. What's the point of bringing in players for a week and then dropping them, or sending them back to Casey for a week or two and recalling them after they under perform again? Stretch, Spargo, C.Wagner, and Neal-Bullen all fit into this category. Garlett and Smith must both be on their last chance - hopefully they can show some sort of desire to be out there. Jetta and Preuss both played with injuries last week and now miss, Jetta for several months. Good work medical team! Simon's selection blunder of the week: after Membrey pantsed Hore & Hibberd last week, you'd think he'd bring in someone to play on Riewoldt. But no, let's throw a fourth gamer on to the Coleman Medallist and watch him kick a bag.
  25. Harley Balic is playing B grade amateurs for Parkdale Vultures.
