  3. Geez, we have got to stop handballing to anything resembling a footy player at the mere hint of a shadow!!!!
  4. Our midfield got exposed for defensive pressure big time. Oneexample Miller ran hard ftom deep bscks and was involved in at east 2 times probably3, as the ball csme dowm the wing and endeded up a goal - at the same time Trsc was jogging through the middle parrallel and gave up spproaching 50.. Hard to give them votes. Gawn Melks Picket Turner Bowey Viney Note the lack of midfield defensive pressure allowed theirs to deliver darts into their forwards, or kick to advantage.

  10. Interesting that GWS losing streak has coincided with Strigger coming in - remarkable what a small tweak can do to a teams balance. We need to be careful We don't do the same with our forward setip. So I'd keep the forward line the same as howwe finished the game. We are far more potent with the small setup. JvR, Fritsch, Melks together doesn't offer the required pressure and none of them play as a lead up forward. Hawks rely on a lot of run, so I'd replace Petty with a midfielder or flanker; perhaps Woewodin who can be both. Can Adams ruck? Like the idea of Fritsch as sub.

  12. I'm a huge Feitsch fan but I'd consider JVR for him and tell JVR to play a Jeremy Cameron role. Perhaps move Fritsch to sub. Bring in Campbell or Veral to be backup ruck for Fullerton. Even AJ. Note: what had worked for us is two talls in the backs and 1.5 talls in the forward. We need to keep that mix.

  15. Premiership coaches at a second or third club invariably fail. Can only think of Mathews being successful. Often a successful coach will generate a lot of assistants coaches who then become good coaches - so with this in mind Who's rhe assistants at Geelong and Brisbane? Love Nathan Jones, but he doesn't look like the answer as midfield coach. At least not yet.
  16. Agreed, though the amount of talent coming through gold coast Academy's mean Players like Touk, Flanders, etc Will get pushed out quicker; or at least pushed to the periphy. He's also a Vic boy after all. Plus I understand has leadership quality in spades. If we lose 1 of Trac / Oliver I'd chase Touk for the quality experience and keep the other first round for the draft! Noting they are not looking for early picks; I'd offer late first round and change which they can convert into multiple picks (points). Is there a tall there as well we could chase. Could King get pushed out with the quality they have coming through.

  18. Oh and most recent premiership sides trade in kept players (particularlykey position) to compliment their existing talent. For example Brisbane - Daniher, Dunkley Collingwood - Howes, Hill Geelong - Cameron, Tuohy Melbourne - May, Lever Richmond - Lynch, Prestia Very few teams produce all tbeir own talls. Delve a little deeper and if they produced their own talls then they've brought in Midfielders. Oh and theses are example of chasing required players, not bargains or "be assembled they are available"! Seems to be a bit of a pattern.
  19. Butters would be a good fit; and compliment both present a d future midfield. I'd also sound out Touk Miller, as the amount of Talent coming through GCS now and future Academy intakes will push out good players quicker. Callum Brown fro. GWS could compliment our forward line. I'd also look at North's midfielders as they wont all fit and you should be able to squeeze one out. Powell would be my target but LDU is more possible. Expect Tim Kelly is also gettable, but is he still interested in footy? Whay aren't we throwing the world at Brayshaw!!! Bring him home.
  20. And only May and Tmac attack the ball in air - our forwards tend to wait for the ball to come to them.
  21. Our purple patch in this game coincided with when we managed to stick the tackles ----- coincidence????

  23. Melksam straight into the side last week is something I'd be revisiting. Good player but my recollection is he takes a few games to build up form (particularly these last few years); unfortunately we can't do that in firsts anymore. Lack of defensive pressure and inability to rotate through midfield means it's him OR Fritsch. Picket should replace him. Viney could move to forwards with Langford replacing him. Then he and picket can rotate through midfield (unfortunately we are still one midfield rotation short - which allows Sparrow to stay). Then we need true marking targets (tall, medium or small) - which presently is JVR and Frisch; possibly Picket. This lack of marking threat allows the opposition to confidentiality leave there player to double team us in the air. I'd actually give consideration to Gawn and McDonald playing forward (even swapping in the ruck).
  24. Perhaps but Ling wasn't known for speed, nor Kirk, I can't recall Dee's supporters raving about Jordan's speed. A hard tag is more about starting with them shoulder to shoulder (ideally with your shoulder behind theirs forcing them to the inside of a contest/ congestion); physical pressure is constant particularly before or as the ball gets near them. They should never get the time to use that speed as an advantage. Of course if you start a metre away from someone like Rowel, Warner, even Trac then it doesn't matter how quick you are as they have the advantage of initiating when "to go" (accelerate). Even if the tagger gave away a couple of free kicks doing this (I.e restraining them before getting the ball) then that slows down play and forces then to kick over the mark a far better outcome than running out the front of a pack. Alternatively it could force these quicker midfielders to play more outside to take advantage of their speed, but then they have to rely on someone else to win the inside ball and get it to them (and with them not doing it, Oliver Langford Trac have a far greater chance of getting it) If it was a "run with" role however then I most definitely agree with your point.
  25. The possession game tactic doesn't suit our forward setup (lack of tall marking options) for while we are possessing it the opposition (which is faster than us) are flooding back. This clogs up the middle while transitioning back, then delivers them an outnumber in our forwards when we finally enter. Our best option consequently is to lead to the high pocket for a tough shot on goal if we get it. A small forward line needs speed on the ball (get it in quick), and for entries to he low, our in front or even on the ground. Of course it requires rhe forwards to lead up at the ball ( even if it's to create space behind for another to lead up at the ball or for a ground ball! The aim should be to move the ball quickly to a high forward 50 entry (think about 40-50 metres out). Which is harder to defend. Of course a SLOW small/medium forward line offers nothing!!!!! Modern football is attacking from a turnovet or the backline in a wave of runners, with quick ball movement, and if a turnover occurs fanatic pressure to create a ballup (unfortunately this outcome no longer favours us).
