A subjective view of a player. wont rate a player higher just because MFC drafted him. hoping to be proven wrong but just dont see top 3 talent at this stage. observed 3 training sessions so far this pre season, (including 2 in Maroochydore) and dont see what we were witnessing from Salem, brayshaw, petracca or Kent during their first pre-seasons. A top 3 talent should look good in skills sessions. Oliver doesnt. -

calling it early. messed this pick up. a top 5 draft pick should at least be showing skills in preseason. have not seen one positive comment regarding olivers skill level so far. yes, hes hard at and a good size............ -
The combined Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia Thread

Thats very narrow minded thinking WYL. Australian Football needs footy in the nonfootball states to prosper and if the expansion clubs fail then the AFLs fortunes will suffer. Soccer will be the number one code in Australia within 40 years. ( Government immigration and population growth policy will ensure that will be the case). Theres nothing that can prevent that now but we need the AFL to at least be number 2. for that to be the case, the expansion clubs must succeed. If footy fails in the northern states then we will be left with a Victorian league with ABC coverage. We can't stop soccer taking over but we can hold off rugby and league - we need the north to prosper though. Put your personal resentment aside and think of the greater good. Think of the future generations of footy fans . -
we really need McCarthy to get to the Dockers on a big contract at the end of this year. I back the club to successfully counter any other Vic clubs offer to Jesse. The WA factor is our achilles. If Dockers get McCarthy that threat reduces somewhat, although not entirely.

it never ceases to amaze me how quickly people forget our last season form. all it takes is a few weeks of mutual online masturbation and suddenly MFC are world beaters. We were absolutely shite toward the end of last year but it seems the win against an undermanned GWS has people fawning over how good we are going to be. Picking up some scraps in trade week doesn't mean anything. We are a bog ordinary team with some exciting but yet to be fulfilled talent. Essendon is a danger game as is GWS. Bug, Kennedy and some 18year olds dont prevent Carlton, Stkilda , footscray, Brisbane game performances.

To the people who say players should be free to move when and where they want, they can't have their cake and eat it. an extension of that philosophy is that the draft is null and void and that players can chop and change at will, like the rest of us. Goodbye equalization.

I get the whole restriction of fair trade and movement in relation to a player and it goes against what we deem fair in any other workplace. However, the fact is, professional sporting competitions can not thrive and survive if they are held to what we consider fair movement in any other workplace. I am free to choose any workplace I desire, and so i should . I am free to leave my job with 4 weeks notice. If we carry those same rights over to the AFL then we have players leaving mid season. But if we give the identical right to afl players then how many of them will be lining up at glenferrie and kardinia park? The concept of football or sporting leagues was developed before workplace fair trade rules came in. the two can not exist in the same bubble. even free agency is restrictive when compared to any other industry. ITs another case of reality of a situation being different to a utopia. a football league can not survive if it is held to the same rules as the 'real world.' players should be compensated for these restrictions but the league shall be allowed to restrict player movement for the betterment of the game. The game is bigger than any player.
-
something has to happen that brings the balance of power back to the clubs. professional team sport can not work otherwise. it must be exempt from fair trade rules and the players can be compensated for this exemption with large salaries and the opportunity to live out their dream.
-
Perhaps a rule where if a player wants to break a contract for 'personal' reasons then they must sit out the following year on full pay from their new club. that would discourage clubs poaching talent a little bit and encourage players to see out contracts and allow the player movement process to work as intended. Or they sit out a year uncontracted and then go in to the next national draft.
-
If youre right on that then there goes any hope of equalization. the AFLPA has consistently pushed the line back further and further to where the power of the players has completely destroyed any hope of an even competition
-
GWS are trying to build a team. you think if GWS let every bloke who misses Mum break a contract that they are going got have any chance of success. I call bullsh1t on all this pansy crap. I call bullsh1t on m.Clark and I call bullsh1t on cam mccarthy. players must not be allowed to pick and choose clubs under the guise of 'homesickness'. C.Mcarthy is now my most despised player, purely for what he personifies which is the self entitled, pansy nature of todays young generation.

a typical affliction of the SJW types. I agree with you. theres no requirement for accountability anymore. lets set a precedent and let anyone who's sad go back the club of their choice. Watch the league unravel quicker than ball of string. Young players must understand a contract is binding. homesickness is an affliction for 12 year olds. this guy is in his early 20s for F&*^s sake. blokes younger than him went to gallipoli and he can't handle living in sydney as a pro athlete?!! please

I think Frost , Oliver are over rated and i think M.White is under rated and going to be a long term proposition off HB for us. Never understood the love for Frost. -
I wish some of you guys could see just how ridiculous you look when you're constantly arguing in circles and splitting hairs in an effort to defend your fragile egos.

One comparison I've heard is Brent Moloney/Jordie McKenzie -

Any chance D'land Admin that you could set up a cloud paid for by those who wished to contribute where we could share games and old highlights?

At our club, Brayshaw is more of the class of selwood. Jones has become one of my all time favorite players for the club purely through his hard work and heart. A very good player, yes , and as important for the MFC as selwood has been for geelong, but Jones is not in the same class as a footballer. For pure effort and heart then i say they match up very well.
