we need to collect as much top talent as possible before we depart the bottom 6 on our journey up the ladder. If we don't then we are destined for a mid table destination. Lets hope the picks are talent based and not needs based.

A good rule of thumb that may be useful for those who struggle to avoid insulting others ; When youre posting on here, imagine that you are standing face to face with that person at the pub. Would you speak to that person face to face like that? I would imagine there would be a lot of broken jaws and cracked skulls if some of the people on here spoke to others in the real world like they do on here. False bravado afforded to you by an Internet forum is weak sh*t.

The reason so many people deride him is because of his lack of desire for a contest. Its always been the case that a lesser talent with extreme desire and a set of nuts will always be more popular to the masses than a bloke with talent but a perceived softness. Whether its in sport or life those characteristics are going to make someone unpopular. the reason he polarizes is because half the world see him as untapped potential and the other half see him as a Pus*y. If we hold to account his draft position then he has underwhelmed. If we go with the mantra that after the draft the number he was picked at doesn't matter(don't agree with that philosophy) then he has time to improve just as others before him. Draft picks are currency and players picked at those drafts are investments in a clubs future. High draft picks are expensive. They mean either a club has given up a lot for that pick or a whole season has been thrown away due to poor performance. It is disingenuous to say the number a player was drafted at is irrelevant. Melbourne lost a lot to have the opportunity to take a great player at no1 in 2008. So far that pick has been wasted. Im not convinced he will survive beyond 2016 but I look forward to seeing how it pans out.

Living overseas its so hard to get a gauge on blokes when you only get to watch the tv coverage. close up shots and camera angles trying to catch the "drama " of the game instead of whats actually going on

we can never question Mckenzies attack or desire for the game but Im pretty confident we've got a much better footballer in Vandenberg. Im a little unsure of how far he will progress but i think he could be a really damaging HF, his physicality bringing some great defensive inside 50, creating opportunities for those around him. Just haven't seen enough of him , and only on my laptop, to be able to judge his future through the middle

Could he cement a long term role as a medium forward rotating through the midfield? I didn't see too many games this year but loved what i saw of him.

i think one reason behind the poor draft selections of Barry was that he was trying to draft for needs instead of going for best available. Best example of this was Cook. They decided they needed a tall so picked a bloke who was considered a 2nd round pick but the best tall at that pick. then there was wrong type of player and of course development beyond that.

I miss Saty. He could get dragged in to conflict as easy as anyone but he wasn't contrary for the sake of it like some. A bit too much of a fan boy at times but I absolutely loved his passion for the club. I'll never belittle someone for that. He put a lot of effort in to the training reports which were a great resource for us guys out of Melbourne. Yes sometimes they read like a Goebbels wartime press release but his dedication was undebatable. Unfortunately d1ckheads on here pestered to the point he bailed. Demonland is worse off for his absence. BenHur is still here. Dr who was a world class, elite t8sser of the highest order and not missed. Unfortunately this forum is extremely tolerant of those who wish to drag it down but over time you get an eye for who can add value to a discussion and who is here to hide from the real world.

For some clubs the planets have really aligned haven't they. I believe you make your own luck for the most part but us pinching 94 or 98 would've been no different to adelaide nabbing 97 and 98. Still, a st kilda fan would have a cross to bear on that front even more than us

It is interesting how quickly an opinion by some journalist snowballs. Soon enough most can't actually remember why they think player A is a lock but the idea has self perpetuated. Its easy to get caught up in it i guess but personally i try to stand back and wait for draft day. Theres just no way I can gather enough info on any of these kids to make my opinion worthwhile. Also I've been burnt so often now with our drafting. I remember being happy we took Toumpas. Hadn't seen many highlights but got caught up in the media frenzy like most.

As DD said, i reckon the coaches need to give up on trying to turn him in to BJ and stick him forward. He's got great footy smarts , just needs that crunt in him. Green showed complete disregard for his safety later in his career when he committed to the contest. loved it

Definitely the latter. the even spread of good players will get you to the big game. When you get there perhaps a contest won by the elite big name will give you the flag, but history is mostly against those sides attempting to buy premierships.

I agree but i put them in there for the sake of discussion. Some posters may disagree with you and I and I'm interested to hear what everyone has to say Id have Tyson in the middle and Brayshaw on a wing myself but i agree with the personnel
