Guess it's up to the Lions now to stop all evil.

Don't forget this justification from the afl as well. Melbourne has a high level of young talent including Jesse Hogan, Jimmy Toumpas, Jack Viney (father/son selection at 2012 draft), Jay Kennedy-Harris, Christian Salem and Dom Tyson. - Melbourne was able to attract a number of experienced players during the 2013 Exchange period including Dom Tyson (2nd best and fairest), Bernie Vince (3rd best and fairest), Daniel Cross (5th best and fairest), Viv Michie (from Fremantle) and Aidan Riley (from Adelaide); - Melbourne may be able to trade Mitch Clark for another player or a draft pick and will receive a compensation pick if they lose any players to free agency
-
They are but the assistance they receive will be separate from free agency compensation. That's not to say they won't influence or manipulate free agency compensation to what they want Strong talk of pick 11 and even future picks being a part of an assistance package. Could leave north with picks 2, 3, 11 and 14. 11 and 14 is probably the strongest hand for gold coast picks 4 (5 after fa compo) They could very well end up with 2, 3 and 5.

Ben McKay has chosen Essendon. Allegedly they offered less than Hawthorn. Fingers crossed it doesn't trigger band 1 but all the noise still points towards it.
-
Apparently hawks are into Chol now.

[censored] Collingwood, [censored] Carlton. Also [censored] Brisbane (read zorko). I'm still angry about last week.

Tom Fullarton maybe as another cheap option. Out of contract I believe but haven't heard about any specific speculation around him.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Nascent replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good crop of youngsters there. A few names I liked this year include:- Christian Moraes Finn O'Sullivan Levi Ashcroft Jagga Smith Harvey Langford Josh Smillie Tom Gross Jesse Datolli Isaac Kako Thought Cooper Hynes might have gotten a gig as well but not named. A lot of small/medium mid forward types. -
Oscar Allen?
-
We should have plenty of salary cap space to go after a big target in the next year or two. While I can't see a "big fish" landing this year, next year has some tantalising prospects out of contract. In no particular order I'd be looking at: Oliver Florant (RFA) Hugh McCluggage (RFA) Ben King Aaron Naughton Tom Stewart (RFA) Sean Darcy (RFA) Tim English (RFA)

Interesting, roos might not get pick 3 after all.
-
I'd be all in but not sure how we get it done.

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread

Jack Carroll has averaged 24 touches at VFL level and can't crack the blues team. We liked him in his draft year. Contracted for next year but may want to move for opportunities. Smooth moving half-back/winger but seems to have been played forward when given his limited afl games. -
Have to agree. And for his supposed lack of opportunities he has still played 65 out of the last 74 games.
-
So projecting forward our changes look like... Out: Grundy, Hibberd, Dunstan, Jordon - D. Smith (r) In: McAdam D. Turner to be elevated to the senior list. Decision yet to be made on Melksham. That currently leaves 2 senior spots and 2 rookie spots pending further player movement and assuming we keep the same balance of senior to rookie players (36 and 6).

I get where you're coming from, but Watson would be better than all our undersized forwards bar kozzie. Caddy is undersized and probably won't impact for a number of years. We've already spent our last 2 first round picks on JvR and Jefferson as tall marking prospects. For mine, if Duursma is off the table we should look at one of Watson/McKercher and if we can move up our 2nd pick, look at O'Sullivan/Murphy
-
It would be equally a depth decision as well. Next year we can't rely on any of BBB and T-mac and wouldn't expect any games from Adams, Jefferson, Verall and KFW. At the moment that leaves May, Lever, Petty, JvR as our best 22 KPP with hope that Turner will establish himself. Injury to any one of those seriously jeopardises our structure. Keeping Schache and Tomlinson in that context is actually a no brainer unless we bring in some ready made key position depth.
-
Sensible give our lack of ready to play key position players.
-
If Adelaide were actually serious about Petty they would be offering their pick 9 with McAdam and to suck Goodwins toes on a weekly basis.

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread

A mate of mine is a saints man and says he's an absolute liability with ball in hand. Haven't seen enough of him myself but I trust his judgement of players in general. -
Looks like half of the Giants fans are family and crows supporters. Fair few empty seats that I saw in the stadium. I wonder if Kane will be disappointed in the crowd size.

Our first four picks are locked in prior to the trade/fa period and any potential North compensation. We have: 5, 13, 24 and 32 -

Contracted until 2025 so no way we let him go. Would just about close our flag window unless we found a suitable quality tall replacement, of which there are none. -
One of Pies, Lions, Power, Blues and Giants will win the flag. Gross. Go Giants?

A fit forward line.
